Huffton Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Didn't realise he used to play in between the sticks, he's just gone up even further in my estimation! How many other ex-keepers have made it in management? Bryan Gunn is the only one I can think of, although he didn't really 'make it' in all fairness...
marc_saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Peter Shilton managed Plymouth for a few years but didn't do too much. Can't think of too many others.
docker-p Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 The last pope, John Paul II, was a goal keeper:rolleyes:
krissyboy31 Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 (edited) Mike Walker (Ian's dad) at Norwich and Everton. Kevin Blackwell. Edited 26 September, 2010 by krissyboy31
Deppo Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Billy the Fish was caretaker manager at Fulchester Rovers quite successfully on a number of occasions after regular manager Tommy Brown's various transgressions (open heart surgery on pitch, revealed to be a woman, etc.)
doubleonothing Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Neville Southall was has mainly managed at non-league level (not sure if he has ever had a league club)
saint_bert Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Kevin Blackwell was a GK Edit;- didnt see his name was all ready mentioned
Big John Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Gordon Ramsay - one of the ugly sisters Juilo Iglesias - Real Madrid (Enrique's dad for you young'uns)
saintedwill Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Stanley Menzo's a manager at the moment, but not a very good one
VectisSaint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Article on this on the Guardian from 2007, evidently Raymond Goethals is arguably the most successful (who? never heard of him). Bruce Arena was also a keeper. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/sep/19/theknowledge
stknowle Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 David Icke, Saviour of the Earth, was a GK for Coventry I do believe.
Foxstone Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Was'nt Pavarotti a goalkeeper too in his youth ?
Ohio Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Ronnie Corbett was a goalkeeper in Subuteo.

scotty Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 David Icke, Saviour of the Earth, was a GK for Coventry I do believe. we can laugh at him, and I certainly have, but what if he was right all along about the lizards we'll feel like such fools
L1Minus10 Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Jeremy 'safe hands' Beadle was a goalie. Like it....

eurosaint Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Gordon Ramsay - one of the ugly sisters Juilo Iglesias - Real Madrid (Enrique's dad for you young'uns) He wasn't a goalie !

Deppo Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 This place is so negative. Everyone is so quick to have a pop at the manager - "Burley was a drunk", "Pardew was a philanderer", "Adkins was a goalkeeper", etc. Who'd be Saints' manager with fans like this?
Scudamore Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 (edited) This place is so negative. Everyone is so quick to have a pop at the manager - "Burley was a drunk", "Pardew was a philanderer", "Adkins was a goalkeeper", etc. Who'd be Saints' manager with fans like this? Me. I'm a smackhead. On a serious note the methadrone is helping... On a slightly less serious (but perhaps more on topic) note Peter Taylor was a goalkeeper...and as we all know he knew his sh:t when it came to the football. Edited 28 September, 2010 by Scudamore
ericofarabia Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Blimey NA was a goal keeper .... does he have any more skeletons in his cupboard.
SW11_Saint Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Jock Wallace (Rangers). Adkins was of course also a physio, as was Liverpool legend Bob Paisley. Boring but true. I really like Adkins from what I've seen. Seems like a really sound bloke.
beancounter saint Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Didn't one of Westlife play for Leeds youth sides as a goalie?
skintsaint Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philminshull/2010/09/from_the_sticks_to_top-flight.html
stknowle Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Jeremy 'safe hands' Beadle was a goalie. Nah mate he was a Secretary - good at short hand apparently
lettuce Posted 29 September, 2010 Posted 29 September, 2010 The last pope, John Paul II, was a goal keeper:rolleyes: That's why he was so good at handling crosses. Chris Turner( ex-Sheffiled Wednesday manager?) was a goalkeeper.
