ericofarabia Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 What did adkins have to say then Wouldn't stop talking about the new leader of the labour party
Toadhall Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Praised the team spoke very highly of KD & RJ - the team won. AL is not as fit as he would like and took time to praise the support. It wasn't so much what he said but the way in which he said it. Good stuff tho'!
Toomer Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 At last, lets hope we can kick on from here same again Tuesday please.
Cabrone Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 LOL - this club is mental. I give up predicting how we're going to do. Delighted with the 3 points and fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed the team can push on from here. They ARE good enough to get top 2 if they apply themselves.
ART Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 As the Scots Bard Rabbie Burns would have said had he been around today: "A wins a win fae all that?
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 I wish Solent wouldn't pander to the Bournemouth fans and call next week a derby... Much needed win today, now I feel we're unstoppable: It's amazing what a win can do.
LostBoys Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Sounded good on the radio although we missed a number of chances again - onward and upward
St Marco Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Wish i went now. (actually no i don't i hate Sheffied!) A deserved win and listening to the game it was nice to hear another team's crowd booing their players rather then us for a change! So good win and well deserved. Barnard sounded good so look forward to seeing on the football show tonight. My only concern is Lambert doesn't seem at the races and should he be left on when playing gash while players like Barnard are playing well and get subbed? Lambo is a quality player but you should always play players who are in form.
Stu Man Do Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Sounded good on the radio although we missed a number of chances again - onward and upward But ... We GOT ONE!! FINALLY! Thought we might take a spanking today but sounded like we soaked up the pressure well and became far more confident once the goal went in! Ideally get an early goal in tuesdays game and Yeovil could take one helllllllofa beating ;-)
Toadhall Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Thought Lambo had a good game - didn't score but brought players in. I also think the understanding between him and AL is another factor.
Steel City Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 A good win for us. Played really well the first half and had a few really good chances which we just didn't finish. Lambert looks really awful. A bit better in the second half trying to bring people in to play but not in any sort of form. Davis made two great saves at the end. the one from the free kick was good but he'd have been criticised if it had gone in. The one at the very end was a genuine fingertip save and it just pushed the ball past the post. Cheers to Nigel for coming across to see the fans and the way he went to every player as he came across suggests he knows his man management skills.
Toadhall Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 The first eyewitness and from what I heard a very good summing up.
Window Cleaner Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 The first eyewitness and from what I heard a very good summing up. although he thought Lambert was crap and you thought he had a fair game !!!
Dearne Valley Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just back from the game and agree about Lambert who did look awful (and heavy) Plus points were Davis, Jaidi, Barnard and Hammond who were brilliant. Sat with the Wednesday fans who were chanting "Sack the board" ! Nice to see Lallana back and looking good

stockbridge_saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 For the first time ever I bet heavily against Southampton and that ensured us the 3 points. I paid for those points.
Dalek2003 Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Perhaps Lambert is having a confidence crisis. We all know that strikers thrive on confidence, probably just needs to get that one goal and then he will be up and running again...I hope.
Leicestersaint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Good result - let's hope we can now put the dreadful start to this season behind us. I have faith in Adkins from what i know of him - he will get them fighting fit (which they clearly haven't been).
saintsforlife7 Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Lambert was not awful today! It wouldnt drop for him to score but he worked hard and was involved a lot! Hammond Seabourne and Jaidi had really strong games but MOM goes to Kelvin for his two, but particularly the last save, absolutely full strech save as the ball seemed to pass him! In NA we trust!
andysstuff Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 For the first time ever I bet heavily against Southampton and that ensured us the 3 points. I paid for those points. Keep the betting up for the rest of the season will you.
SW11_Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Hopefully. But we need Lambert to sort himself out. And where is Fonte ? Every silver lining has a big dark cloud. Just wouldn't be you if you just said "great result" or something. Finish that drink, your glass is half empty...

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just back from the match - good, solid performance, delighted with the win. Davis made two vital saves at the end - the one from the free kick was good, the one from Morrison was world class. But not to suggest we were hanging on, we were well worth the win. Great to see Lallana back - he is so good. Lambert still off the pace, not sure what the issue is with him. Sheffield Wednesday are atrocious though.
gaz Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 We've forgotten in the past month or two that its all about the football. Lets get on a roll and make SMS a fortress.
Saint_clark Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 A Wednesday fan told me earlier he thought that Lambert looked good, maybe we're just so used to him being unstoppable that anything less is viewed as sh*t?
Window Cleaner Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 A Wednesday fan told me earlier he thought that Lambert looked good, maybe we're just so used to him being unstoppable that anything less is viewed as sh*t? a stuffed penguin would look like a good player to most Owls fans
del boy Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 For the first time ever I bet heavily against Southampton and that ensured us the 3 points. I paid for those points. thank you, you're efforts are appreciated. Same again on Tuesday then please
Yorkshire Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 just got in .... alot of propaganda fotty as Gordon would say but cracking result...cracking following...good celebrating at final whistle and great saves at end from super K
Window Cleaner Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 For the first time ever I bet heavily against Southampton and that ensured us the 3 points. I paid for those points. send in a expenses chit to Nicola then
ottery st mary Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Always knew we were world class. Well done Saints........Hats off to Hammond, Puncheon and Seaborne..... Well done KD and especially big praise to Barnard. Sir Nigel you are a star in the making....Keep it up Mind you..a win against Yeovil and Bournemouth now required. Won IFM
simo Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 The fight back begins ! 0-3 0-2 0-1 0-0 1-0 anyone fancy a 2 nil won Tuesday?
alpine_saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Every silver lining has a big dark cloud. Just wouldn't be you if you just said "great result" or something. Finish that drink, your glass is half empty... Oh, I AM so sorry. WE WILL WALK THIS LEAGUE (is that better....?)
Window Cleaner Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 The fight back begins ! 0-3 0-2 0-1 0-0 1-0 anyone fancy a 2 nil won Tuesday? and a 3-0 next Saturday would produce a perfect numeric palindrome wouldn't it??
simo Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 and a 3-0 next Saturday would produce a perfect numeric palindrome wouldn't it?? If I didn't miss out mk none's
Griffo Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 On the way back myself.. What a fantastic day and a fantastic result. Proper away performance that was, quiten the home fans and score on the break when the home fans were getting right on their back. MOM Davis without doubt. Three of his saves today I was sure were going in. Atmosphere in the second half was quality but why would so many boring sods choose to go all the way up to Sheffield to just sit there in silence at the bottom of the stand?
saint77 Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 lambert needs game time to get his fitness Wish i went now. (actually no i don't i hate Sheffied!) aintforever Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Cracking result, well done Nigel and Barney - this could be the turning point.
The Cat Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Lambert was ok, definitely not awful. Not up to the standards of last season but he put himself about more and linked up play well. Thought we played well and controlled the game for the most part. Obviously there were some hairy moments, but the defence was pretty solid and kelvin came through with some great saves. We seemed more of a unit and we defended well all over the pitch. Was pleased to see our midfielders and strikers hassling them into mistakes to win back posession. There was much more balance to the team. My 2 least favourite players Hammond and Puncheon kept it simple and did their jobs well. Best performances I've seen from either of them this season. The end was like a reverse of last week, this time it was our keeper pulling off 2 great saves in injury time. The last of them was brilliant, the merest fingertip diverting the ball from nestling in the bottom left corner. Right, time for a night out in dirty Leeds.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Excellent result. Would've been happy just to have scored a goal, TBH, but to win as well is great (can't believe I've just written that about us in League 1!). Hopefully this will help us build some confidence and momentum.
Upton72 Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 I didn't dare listen to Solent, seems to be the kiss of death for me, followed it on this forum. So, I'm not in a position to comment on individual performances. A wonderful win, a great team effort and a really strong interview from NA. However, I don't get the "drop Lambert" stuff. I acknowledge that he's not on form, he's not fully fit, his free-kicks aren't generally hitting the target, (but he's getting closer), but he is much, much more than someone to hoof it up to. He holds the ball, lays off, can play it long or short and brings other players in. I think his partnership with Barney is looking really promising. Even last Saturday there were glimpses of what will come later. Someone touched on "confidence" earlier on and that's important for both a goalscorer and a goalkeeper. (please review some of KD's history). The rest of the outfield players are not placed on the spot as much as these two positions. His confidence is down but I think Nigel's man management skills will sort him out on that score and, if we keep singing RLSGM, it can't help but work. He'll start scoring, hopefully next week and I for one wouldn't mind if it went in off his backside when he wasn't looking.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just back from the game......... Amazing!! Kelvin really saved us twice at the end but great passing once lallana came on
tttdcs Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Hopefully. But we need Lambert to sort himself out. And where is Fonte ? Another classic post by "alpine _saint"
ottery st mary Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 At least Saints supporters on this forum are really chuffed....
Ian the Red Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 fantastic result!! Now the season needs to start..... and then keep going. A win on Tuesday followed by thrashing Bourenmouth and tehn we really will be on track again. COYR!!!!
bender Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Am I missing something?? Lalana played. Thought he was crocked for ages
SFC Forever Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 For the sake of those that don't know, Fonte has a thigh strain. Jaidi was massive today even counting his slips and he hasn't played for a while. So well done Radhi.
Arizona Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just back from the game, have to say it was a brilliant result against a very poor Wednesday team. They were as bad as we have been for the last few games and as I was walking past reception on the way out, there was a massive protest against the board by a couple of thousand Owl fans. We played rpetty well overall. Not brilliant, but there was a lot of the good stuff we got used to last season coming back into our play. We created a lot of chances, had shots on goal and defended fairly well. I think a decent team would have got a goal or two against us and given choice I'd still have Fonte back in for Jaidi, who looked slow despite a strong performance. Wednesday had chances, but most of them were from set pieces the ref seemed all too happy to give. First half I though he was just going to keep giving free kicks until they scored. Second half I though he wasn't going to blow full time until they scored either. They had two shots at the end excellently saved, but a draw for them would have been an absolute travesty of justice. As for the players... Davis - 8 A few excellent saves and saved our arses at the end. Butters - 6 Had a solid but unspectacular game. Looking forward to Richardson being fit if I'm honnest. Jaidi - 7 Based on 5 in the first half, with a few mistakes, and 8 in the second when he won quite a few headers. Seaborne - 8 Very strong defensive display. OAC - 6 His pace is useful, I'd have him on the bench when Lallana is fully fit. Hammond - 8 A great battling display and some good passes. Morgan -8 A class act today. Fought well and an excellent assist, robbing the Owls player and laying it off for Barny. Puncheon - 6 An average Puncheon display. Was creative, but guily of trying to do too much at times. Lambert - 5 He's just not at the races and looked lazy at times. Barny - 9 MOTM. Worked his socks off and a goal was the absolute least he deserved. Subs: Lallana - 7 Looke dquality even in that brief cameo. Dickson - n/a Not enough time to judge Think someone else came on in injury time, can't remmeber who but they never touched the ball. Harding Adkins - 9 He has them looking creative and motivated again. The confidence is coming back.
the_barmy_saints_army Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 perfect timing. winning against title contenders, seemingly easy three points Tuesday night, and then two home games and a chance to beat high surprisingly high flying bournemouth COME ON YOU WHITES WITH A LITTLE BIT OF RED(S)
rick1976.4.38 Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 back from the game.firstly get off lambert,he just needs that goal and he will hit form again, his header which was well saved would have done his confidence so much good.it will come though.mom seabourne until right at the end when kelvin stole the show with three great saves, outstanding.we played as a team which looked like they didnt want to let anyone down.onwards and upwards with adkins.finaly to those not there you missed a great day out and those who were there, you were a credit to this great club,we heard the owls for about five minutes and that is being generous, dreadful home support.jhaidi may not have any pace anymore but reads the game so well.barney worked his socks off and deserved his goal.when llalanna came on it def changed the game for us,different class, and morgan really got some great tackles in.dont know what the ref was on but he didnt want us to win.
