saints-cris Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just got back from the game, long old trip from Brighton to Sheffield but absoloutely worth every minute. Was my first time at Hillsborough and whilst I really liked the stadium, the Wednesday fans were god awful. I thought theyd provide a good atmosphere but they were really terrible. However, I thought the Saints end was really good, was a cracking atmohsphere in the west stand ! Going into the game, I didn't see us getting much. I predicted either a bore draw or us losing comfortably and one thing I definately didn't expect was us going to Hillsborough and playing like we were the home team ! We looked really good at times. I can definately see the style changing to Adkins' way. Much less hoofball to Lambert and when there was, at least there was someone running off him. We defended in a very disciplined way too. Ratings: Davis - Cor that was one hell of a save at the end, I already had my head in my hands when I saw that going to the bottom corner. A couple of other good saves too, a late saviour and did everything that was required brilliantly - 8. Butterfield - One brilliant stop after Harding cleared off the line (I think it was him who launched himself). Solid. Jaidi - Looked so shaky first half but was a tank in the second - 8. Seabourne - Looked decent today - 7. Harding - Decent performance, didn't let much go past him and always looks good defensively - 7. Chamberlain - 8/10 for his threat, 6/10 for end product. A real player in the making. For a winger he joins the attack in the middle and makes clever runs. also tracks back nicely too - 7. Hammond - I actually thought he was fantastic today, was really happy to see him play so well. Also loved his reaction at the end, he looked even happier than us when we won! - 8 Spider - Same for Hammond really, thought him and Hammond controlled it in the middle. - 7 Puncheon - Looks like he lacks confidence. He still looks a good player though with some clever balls. He'll come good I have no worries about that. - 6 Barnard - Never stopped running and fully deserved his goal (which I dont really know how it went in, didnt see!). Was a real livewire. Well played ! - 8 Lambert - Not at his best, but still has his uses. Used his strength well and brought people into play. Wasnt as good in the air as normal though. Still got the assist. Thought Adkins got his subs right so was happy about that. Lallana was a class above when he came on, even though we went more defensive, we looked just as good going forward. Lallana looks so natural and comfortable on the ball and has tricky feet. The only thing I was a litttlllee bit frustrated at was the amount of attacking runs from midfield but hey, right now I dont care ! Offensive runs
Saint_Jonny Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Stayed up to show my flat mate Davis' two world class saves, the "football" league show gave the 2 biggest clubs in the league TWENTY seconds and showed TWO shots on goal, including the goal. I ****ING HATE THAT PROGRAM!!!!!!
Dr Who? Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 Just got back from London. I left the house at half time and 5 live on. Could not believe it when we scored, but did not think we would hang on for the win. Fantastic result, now let beat the Cherries next week please
Red Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Praised the team spoke very highly of KD & RJ - the team won. AL is not as fit as he would like and took time to praise the support. It wasn't so much what he said but the way in which he said it. Good stuff tho'! TS maybe you should apply for the vacant (apparently if you believe leftback:-)) analyst job! That is a great summary of 4.5 min interview - captured all the revelant points - well done sir :-)
Crazy Diamond Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Whilst Wednesday's form has been mixed this can only be classed as a fine result. The true test is whether this win can be built upon, so here's hoping.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 A relief for sure. But unless it's the start of a roll it's just three points in Division 3. And we all know Yeovils keeper will have his best game of the season on Tuesday night!
SNSUN Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Stayed up to show my flat mate Davis' two world class saves, the "football" league show gave the 2 biggest clubs in the league TWENTY seconds and showed TWO shots on goal, including the goal. I ****ING HATE THAT PROGRAM!!!!!!I don't watch it anymore. The highlights on the Beeb website are better.
Toadhall Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Yes its just 3 points in Div 3 but listening to it on the radio - we seemed to grow in confidence after that goal went in with several series of play where SW didn't get a look in - hence the growing frustration of he home fans. We just need to take that forward to Yeovil on Tuesday - early days and all that but its nice to have a smile on my face this morning rather than a scowl.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 that would make a change for him then, Yeovil are the worst defence in the division having conceded something like 17 goals, so it's pretty certain that we won't add to that...as you say.
eelpie Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 ****ımng cvome one. pısswed out f my head ımn Turkeuy. And mr bEAN won the scum olabnour leaDERSHI8 SO THE ******S WILL NEVER GETB IN. A pERFETC DAY HA HA. Good result. (I mean your written English is improving)
eelpie Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Perhaps Lambert is having a confidence crisis. We all know that strikers thrive on confidence, probably just needs to get that one goal and then he will be up and running again...I hope. First he needs to be up and running more. But he has been unlucky not to score on several occasions. When Nigel gets him fitter he will be immense again.
Bensfcno1 Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 90:00+8:49 The referee ends the match. 90:00+4:59 Clinton Morrison has shot on goal from just outside the penalty box which goes wide of the right-hand upright. Why was there almost 9 minutes of injury time?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 First he needs to be up and running more. But he has been unlucky not to score on several occasions. When Nigel gets him fitter he will be immense again. I think it's a combination of fitness and finding a way to fit in with the new Managers system. I think Pardew almost built the team and tactics around Lambo - who wouldn't given his record? So now he needs to find himself again - it will come, but it's a case of how long. Lucky for us, NA's game seems to suit Barney and Lallana. Great result - I really thought we would be taken apart a little bit today, but there appears to be a good spirit growing in the camp and that can only be attributed to NA. Interesting that we got a win and a clean sheet without Fonte in the team - switching things around when players are not delivering once again seems to be shown to be the right course of action.
PokingFun Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Oh, I AM so sorry. WE WILL WALK THIS LEAGUE (is that better....?) Ha Ha good retort Alps, a win is good, 2 clean sheets in a row and a chance next week to put Bournemouth in their place! Hopefully the upturn in fortunes will now happen but we need to be a little mindful that we are still short of cover in some areas of the squad. Still, 4 points from last 2 games is decent but that now needs to be the minimum for us to have a squeak of promotion / place in the play-offs.

I ****ING HATE THAT PROGRAM!!!!!! It was a dreadful programme last night -even worse than normal. The presenter is Ok ish but our Pompey friend and his doughnut platitudes and that stupid ex BBC South woman whose football knowledge is equivalent to her shopping in Debenhams really get up my nose. :smug:i
Saint Charlie Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Law of averages? Poor old Arsenal....can't even beat WBA at home. No better than supporting Saints really haha.
Nexstar Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 The big difference that I saw yesterday as opposed to recent games was the attitude of the players - they wanted it. They came together as a team and put in a great performance, throwing their bodies infront of the ball in defence and desperate to get that goal upfront. Nigel appears to have had a big effect in the last week.
Yorkshire Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 On the way back myself.. What a fantastic day and a fantastic result. Proper away performance that was, quiten the home fans and score on the break when the home fans were getting right on their back. MOM Davis without doubt. Three of his saves today I was sure were going in. Atmosphere in the second half was quality but why would so many boring sods choose to go all the way up to Sheffield to just sit there in silence at the bottom of the stand? I was near the bottom and i was not quiet! Lost voice today ....just because the pocket of people was smaller does not make us any less viciferous...to be fair it was old folk and kids around me...appreciate them being there dont mock them

Last night I thought the programme plunged to a new depth. It's the first time I've bothered to watch it this year and probably the last - dreadful!
Dark Munster Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 and a 3-0 next Saturday would produce a perfect numeric palindrome wouldn't it?? As long as it's not followed by a 0-4 (Bristol reverse score).

buctootim Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 http://www.shoot.co.uk/news/latest_article/C50/leagues_1_2/saint_nigel Is that your report? Good read, liked the writing style.
Shroppie Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Just watched the extended highlights on BBC website... and they still don't show the save at the end ! Can't believe that some reports and live commentary at the time said the shot (last kick of the match) simply missed. Was a fantastic save by KD - I was right behind it and it was headed right for the bottom corner.
georgeweahscousin Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Is that your report? Good read, liked the writing style. Yeah. Thanks.

I was level with the post and thought it was going in until Davis touched it round the post. No wonder the players celebrated with him at the end.
