Its got nothing to do with the moderation. I got an infraction two weeks ago, but I deserved it. I havent seen any real difference in activity from the mods.

 

Its all about where we are as a club at the moment. Its been a tough first month of the season, we've lost owner and manager, and we dont really have a good picture about the direction of the team and the quality of the new manager (although the potential is clearly there..). The club has been floundering for the first month and is trying to establish itself in a way it should have done during the summer.

 

Everyone is uncertain, but there is strangely little to talk about. The beginning of the season has also been exhaustingly frustrating.

 

So, there is less posting going on, and maybe the mods are cleaning the place up a bit for when the volume posting takes off again. The problem is the club however, not the site.

As Basil Fawlty would say 'No riff-raff' and I agree keep the rabble out if they can't pay £5, let them go on the UI and enjoy working out how to use that site, it is all a mess to me.

is that anyone slightly amusing, controversial or entertaining is instantly banned or infracted. Dave Benson Phillips might be a total fat c*nt and a pain in the arse and love his posts or hate them you cannot deny they were interesting, people either agreed or it would start some interesting and often lengthy debates. Saintpaulkiptanui was a funny poster, but he too has been banned, i can honestly say i never found either his or DBP's posts remotely offensive, funny yes but maybe their brand of humour and discussion was too much for some of you delicate little flowers? Dune & Alpine are vilified and they're often seen as controversial or negative views, but at least they are interesting and you have to say Alps was bang on with his assessment of the squad over the summer, someting which sparked lengthty and interesting discussion and something i disagreed with him on at the time. Not seen them on here for a while, i hope they haven't gone the same way.

 

This board has become a victim of its own infraction policy, take away what you might call "personality posters" which the above would fall into, in case they offend or upset the whining majority and you are left with a bunch of sterile, bland posters discussing the same topics with the same bland responses over and over again. In some ways though, i think this is reflective of our fan base. You may not like or agree with the personality posters, but at least they sparked some interesting discussions, i for one think this place is poorer without them.

 

To be fair you can be both controversial and a character without getting infractions. It's when you're a tedious one-trick troll who incites abuse and then hides you're going to have problems.

I posted on S4E from the very begining in 99/00, the forum was much more "laddy" in those days and much better fun. it changed after a season at SMS when all the new fans which never went to the Dell jumped on the bandwagon and started their tedious "Who's got a ticket for xxxxxx game?" threads where they would all excitedly talk about drinking three bottles of Alchopops and go on and on and on about how drunk they had been and who ws the drunkest. We had idiotic things like seating plans so forum members could see where each other were sitting at games. Gradually these soft, geeky types took over the forum to the point where like now, anything remotely controversial is immediately jumped on by the PC brigade.

The funniest time on the old S4e board when all the newbies joined up was a certain female poster PM'd me saying she was going to "make my life hell" because i had been allegedly bullying one of her fragile, delicate male friends on the forum, who was obviously incapable of looking after himself. This was nothing more than mild p*sstaking but a pathetic reponse.

 

That is spot on and sums it up nicely. S4E in the early days before SMS was great then along came the face paint.

To be honest I sent a PM to one of your fellow moderators hours ago. I don't believe you moderate on The Lounge but whoever does isn't making a very good job of it, if I were cynical I might believe that it is more of a case of deciding to turn a blind eye. Anyway my beef isnt with you though you really should try to find out the full picture before passing comment.

Actually Ludwig and myself were not trolling at all, merely trying to counter your petty remarks and insults. As for you now stating that your homophobic remarks were made tongue in cheek that's just absurd. More likely you were asked to say that and then given a token infraction which means nothing. I know for a fact that some posters are tolerated, some are defended and some are shown the door. You don't need to be a genius to figure out why that is. This is the main reason why this forum is going downhill and rapidly at that, probably something which is discussed often in the mods forum which we, the posters, aren't supposed to know even exists. I'm sure at this rate the forum will continue to develop in a way most posters won't like.
