And as an interesting aside I have actually slept and had sex in the same bedroom as this person, although not at the same time I hasten to add. Big John Posted 28 September, 2010 Share Posted 28 September, 2010 (edited) George Washington? Never heard of George State sorry. He was a quaker, once imprisoned for holding a meeting in the street after finding that the authorities hd locked his meeting room. There is actually a very important legal precedent which was set at this trial. The judge instructed the jury to find him guilty of inciting a riot, however the foreman, Edward Busshell, declared him 'Not Guilty'. The jury were imprisoned but released by a superior judge and hence was born 'Bushell's Case'. having served on a jury I never realised that one can go against the judge's instructions! Big John Posted 6 October, 2010 Share Posted 6 October, 2010 /\ just to close this. twas Admiarl Penn. he sailed a ship called 'welcome' to america. The area had already been 'settled' by the dutch amongst others and Penn was sent there to run it after us brits fought and won it for ourselves. Penn was gifted it by the king for a debt owed to his dad and wanted to calll it simply 'sylvania' but the kings decree named it 'Pennsylvania'. Penn brought a law into the constitution that, to this day, makes america the land of the free, he introduced the law giving 'freedom of religious conviction' that is now an intrinsic part of the constitution. and it all started when a wooden boat set sail from the Goodwin Sands, Deal.
