sadoldgit Posted 25 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 25 September, 2010 When Cortese kept Pardew on, it was with the full intention that Pardew would be here for the season to deliver promotion. I was impressed that Cortese made that decision, bearing in mind that in any other business Pardew would have been out the door immediately he stated that he had prioritised the cups. The one and only directive from Cortese was to prioritise the league, an instant sacking offence for going against that in any other industry. But Cortese took stock, looked at the good and bad of Pardew and committed him him for the following season. I thought that was the correct decision, Pardew had done enough good to warrant a further stay and I was behind that decision because it made sense. I don't know why Pardew got the sack, but it was clear by a very early stage that Pardew had got several things wrong. The fitness and injuries were unacceptable and our main weakness from the previous season had not been addressed. We had a poor start against a couple of weak teams and although I would have given Pardew a handful more games, I don't know the full picture. Something else has reared up from Staplewood and done for Pardew, though I get the feeling that without all the other failings Pardew had showed at the start, he could well have stayed. I was prepared to wait and see how Pardew got on with the "special" players he was looking for, but equally I was not viewing it as a disaster that he went. And lets get something else straight from the administrators own words, if Liebherr was not there, liquidation would have directly followed. No, we would not have completely disappeared, but you would have to of searched in the lower reaches of the Blue Square to find us. You can point to faults with Cortese over other matters and I doubt you will get an argument. The only argument is that these faults are absolutely minor in the big picture, something that will disappear completely with a run of winning games. How do you know this for certain? I don't recall Pardew ever saying her was prioritising the cups? I thought he wanted both. He said, quite rightly, that the club had been starved of success and needed to get a winning mentality back. Winning a cup was a huge boost for this club last year. I'd be interested to hear how you seem to know so much about a man who is a mystery to most. As for liquidation, how many clubs has that happened to? Sorry but I don't get that. There was more people interested according to the Administrator.

Pardew clearly stated this in the programme notes following getting to Wembley. If you don't have a copy, look in the Echo where they quote the comment. Then listen to Cortese's comments in the Solent interview the following weekend, when directly asked aboout prioritising the cups. As for liquidation, that is what the administrator quoted. Yes, there was another party interested, but he could not afford the expense that came with time for what could easily be another set of tyre kickers. The administrator was hamstrung because he could no longer go on racking up more debt because things had got so far down the road. He had already made the decision to liquidate unless Liebherr came up with the money or anyone else without the benefit of due diligence. We are not talking about a deposit, but the whole amount within a couple of days.

If he said it fair enough, but maybe he said it because he thought that a cup was winnable whereas after the slow start and the minus 10 he had less chance of getting up? As you seem to know what is in NCs mind so well, was it part of the 5 year plan to go up last year at all costs? You still don't say how you know what is in NCs mind so well but as you do, I'd be interested in what he thinks about his poor relationship with the staff at St Marys? You don't have to know what is in Cortese's mind, he clearly stated the requirements in the Solent interview. He specifically stated that making the play off's was the top priority. If we gave it our best shot and came up short, so be it. It was the priority, not a must do, because that was out of our control. As for poor relationships with staff, what next, the colour of his tie? You base your assumptions on inconsequentials and gossip, either because you cannot be bothered or it does not suit your position, one lame sog. From that post the other week I thought you knew Nicola intimately, so it now appears that you know no more about him than I do. As for your last point. I spoke to a lady whose son works at St Mary's and she told me that he wasn't liked by the staff. Perhaps she was lying because she has an agenda, who knows? Still, you will discount anything that shows him in a poor light because it doesn't suit your position so we cancel each other out don't we. How do you know that we didn't give it our best shot? We one of the highest scoring team in the league, hardly a sign that we were saving ourselves for cup games is it? Anyway, we won today so who gives a f***? We are not talking about a deposit, but the whole amount within a couple of days. We would not have been liquidated. Every single takeover of every single club in our kind of situation is greeted with those "24 hours from going out of business" boll ock s quotes. They all say it. If the ML bid was not there, the "deadline" would have been extended and extended and we would have found a buyer, of some description, eventually. You'll notice lots of clubs have been doing that lark for some time, on smaller fan bases than us. How many times have stockport been 24 hours from going out of business? How many winding up orders for piddling amounts have today's opponents been served? There is a club down the road from us currently in administration who could be in admin for the entire season, completely within the rules. So with out ML we may not have got a billionaire, but this idea that we wouldn't have had a football team playing matches last season is just fallacy. We definitely would have. Don't bury your head in the sand.

THERE were a number of occasions when it was exceptionally close to folding and we were always running different contingency plans, none of which were very attractive. Q. Was there any time you lost hope? YES, there was a time when I felt liquidation was almost inevitable and we were almost back to where we started. We did have those dark moments. Q. Can you say at what point in the process they were? IT WAS probably shortly after the Pinnacle bid expired and we were trying to draw the other parties together and we couldn’t meet the wages. These are the views of the Administrator, the person who decides what the next step shall be. When the Administrator says he is that close to pressing the button, there's nothing else to be said. Freemantle Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Share Posted 26 September, 2010 I've heard several people say that you are too. Are you? Sorry Mr obessed with forums...i should have known better to express an opinion. i know you spend half your sad life on here but i will keep it brief. My point was that wimbledon fc have risen to the possibility of league football purely on the work of the community they play in. His refusal to have any dealings with the ex saints charity footaball team, may not worry you...but to me its a sympton. No Doubt you will have a smart reply, but frankly i couldnt give a ****......i stated what i thought...cortese is a sh!te....

But you really ought to be aware that if you give it out, you have to expect to get it back. So you think that Cortese is a sh*te, partly based on hearsay from staff working at the club. But it couldn't be that as with most organisations there are slackers and shoddy workers and they are a bit upset for him taking them to task, could it? If you want to base your opinions on tittle-tattle, go ahead. But don't expect others to give credence to opinions without a concrete basis of fact. My post count on here is under 4 a day average. I don't post on any other forum, despite your suggestion that I do. If that is what you rank as obsessive, then that's up to you. But as I work for myself, I often have a bit of spare time between busy periods. Typically though, you don't know me, but feel perfectly qualified to express an opinion as to what my life is like. But I think CBF has a point. It was The Administrator saying those things. Other Administrators seem to be far less keen to pronounce their patients dead. Isn't what our Administrator said exactly what you'd expect him to say AFTER a buyer was found? "Look at me, didn't I do well!" My reply would be "Look at Pompey's. He did well."
