OldNick Posted 21 September, 2010 Posted 21 September, 2010 It's an awful lot easier to look good (and relatively pacy) when you come on for 20 mins at the end of a game than if you start, as we've seen before, notably with Waigo and Wright Phillips. Having said that, he probably does deserve a go, given the way some of the other players are performing. I wouldn't hold my breath though!Listening to NA's aftermatch interview where he mentioned Holmes i suspect he has a good chance of playing. I hope he does as i think he could be a good player for us
lethallee Posted 21 September, 2010 Posted 21 September, 2010 Holmes to start instead of Ox. Ox can then be impact sub if necessary.
Bucks Saint Posted 21 September, 2010 Posted 21 September, 2010 Agree he should be given a go. Two simple reasons. Punch is not at the races currently (but may come back). Holmes made an instant impact so worthy of a start. And HE CAN TAKE A CORNER!!!! (ok thats three but FFS no one else in our "bookies favourite for the title" team can take a corner) Thank you
david in sweden Posted 22 September, 2010 Posted 22 September, 2010 Made an instant impact on Sat and will give us that much needed pace and width also better delivery from corners than Punch who has been sh!t. I feel genuinely sorry for Lee Holmes. Another case of a player who found it difficult to get back in the side after injury. His injury at QPR ?...(I saw on a televised game) looked pretty horrific at the time which was a great shame as he had started that season well, and even scored a couple. By the time he was back fit and training he was well down the pecking order, and to be fair, there are a few Prem.players who would have found it hard to get in the team at the back end of last season.!...and the odd sub.appearance showed that AP didn't REALLY rate him. Let's hope he gets a fair run now to prove himself, especially as Punch..hasn't had a good review in 10 starts this season, and has been subbed 4 times already. Well done NA - give Lee a go ..!
SFC Forever Posted 22 September, 2010 Posted 22 September, 2010 puncheon is not flavour of the month with our fans at the moment and seems to have gone backwards from last season's performances.
Cabrone Posted 23 September, 2010 Posted 23 September, 2010 I'd have Holmes in next game. With our forwards not able to buy a goal at the moment we must give them as much decent service as possible and Holmes is the best crosser we have. He might just be able to provide the service which kickstarts Ricky back into life.
saint1977 Posted 23 September, 2010 Posted 23 September, 2010 I like Holmes but I'd play Dickson and Harding on Saturday as it will counter Sedgewick early on so Mellor and Tudgay don't enjoy an easy supply of crosses. Dickson can cross a decent ball but hasn't had many starts recently either so I'd bring Holmes on for him around the hour mark. Despite his stinking form, I'd keep Puncheon as we'll need him to track back early on as well but give him a different brief - support your full back, nothing flash but lots of running and tracking, get further forward where you can but play like a more conventional winger and get the ball in towards our front two as quick as possible. Morgan when possible needs to help out on the second balls off the strikers as the game goes on, Hammond or Wotton can sit in front of the back 4 and break up Wednesday pressure. Ox-C can replace him around 70 mins to give us a late injection of pace as Wednesday tire although if we are losing he'd come on earlier. We need to keep Wednesday and their crowd quite first half on Saturday, get a foothold on possession gradually and attack any set pieces aggressively. Our back 4 are going to be heading the ball plenty. After 60-70 minutes all being well, we'll then have a platform for the more offensive Holmes and Ox-C
captainchris Posted 23 September, 2010 Posted 23 September, 2010 Holmes made a difference on Saturday, particularly with his delivery from corners. He doesn't give us the trickery and unpredictability of Puncheon and over the season I don't think he will score as many, but he did enough to be in with a shout of a start. I would go 4-2-3-1 with Puncheon, Chamberlain and Guly supporting Lambert. If that doesn't work Barnard and Holmes are decent attacking options from the bench that can change the shape of the team. nooooooooooo wwwww noooooooooooooooooo www Punch has had enough chances this year and is not making a difference - time for a change as we do have options in that area and quite good ones. Puncheon needs a rest!

Puncheon needs a rest! strange though really, Puncheon, Lambert and Fonte, 3 players who came here with the express aim of getting us promotion last season all struggling to find their performances of last season at the same time. Still Fonte looked a bit nearer the mark last Saturday, perhaps Lambert and Puncheon will get there soon.
