Dr Who? Posted 18 September, 2010 Share Posted 18 September, 2010 I would like to see them return as people like to stand. this always comes up, but do not think it will happen, as it is seen as a step backwards. I know that Germany have them quite a lot and they are a success. I also did not know that you can not use them in European games and they have to close these areas for these games. Not that we have to worry about that just yet. They have safe standing at cambridge..... well it is just their old terrace. I am still a little confused to why the non league are allowed them and even Fulham had standing up until a few seasons ago. It was really strict and then it kind of stopped for lower league clubs. not sure what the rules are if the clubs with terraces get back up to Championship or Premier league? Stevenage went up into the league and i am sure they have terraces.
Mao Cap Posted 19 September, 2010 Share Posted 19 September, 2010 Currently they have a ridiculous rule where a club has to replace terraced areas with seating after three years in the first or second tiers. Of course, modern regulations on the maintenance of terraces, amount of space allotted to each spectator etc. have rendered them no less safe than seats (and a lot better to watch football from than the former terraces which promoted lower league clubs have bolted seats onto, resulting in a stand with cramped conditions and a crap view.) But yeah, the concrete steps magically start biting at peoples' feet after three years, so they have to go. I've been involved with a safe standing group for a few years, but the authorities are extremely pig-headed about acknowledging the need for any change. The English being what they are, any change will take decades rather than years. However, pushing for areas of all-seater grounds where standing is allowed and seats are unreserved is a much more achievable ambition, as is trying to get the stupid regulation outlined above changed. Jeff Le Taxi Posted 19 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 19 September, 2010 Surely safe standing areas are much safer than say for instance everyone standing in the Northam !
Lord Duckhunter Posted 19 September, 2010 Share Posted 19 September, 2010 The Taylor report missed a trick when it came to this, that was the time to implement safe standing. It was obviously a very raw time, but 20 years on it is possible to stand safely. Had I lost a loved one that day I may feel differently, but I believe there should be safe standing areas. Dr Who? Posted 19 September, 2010 Share Posted 19 September, 2010 Surely if Hillsborough disaster happened and it was a all seater stadium, it would have been much worse? I have maintained all along that the problems were the policing/stewarding, and the fact that the supporters were penned in with high fencing? If there were no fences, Hillsborough disaster would never have happened that day in 1989.
