Dr Who? Posted 18 September, 2010 Share Posted 18 September, 2010 How did you propose to your other half? I kept our winter trip a secret, so my now wife did not know where we were going *****il the night before). We went to New York, and I took the ring with me. It was snowing and when up the top of the Empire State Building and I proposed there. Was really good, apart from an American couple say 'oh well can we take a photo'. Weird, they did not even know us! It was great, but had to get it out the way the first night, as it was going round again and again in my head what I was going to say! A couple of friends of mine that are now not married, had just got in from a fancy dress party drunk and he said do you think we are ready to get married, and they agreed that they probably were. 1 year after getting married she moved out, and now is re-married in a gay marriage. saint_bert Posted 18 September, 2010 Share Posted 18 September, 2010 (edited) Funny they agreed to get married when drunk. When im drunk, my missus finds a million ways to say why she's glad shes not married to me. Weird Edited 19 September, 2010 by saint_bert
Hatch Posted 18 September, 2010 Share Posted 18 September, 2010 Christmas Day. I bought a fake arm, blood and gore and everything. Put the ring on the finger and wrapped it up and put it under the tree. After unwrapping it, it took her a good 5 minutes of wondering what the **** was going on before she noticed the ring. CB Saint Posted 18 September, 2010 Share Posted 18 September, 2010 I'm a traditionalist so I decided to go right back to basics. Raided the neighbouring village, selected a comely wench, bashed on the head with my club, dragged her backed to my gaff by her hair. Could never understand why she wasn't waiting for me when I got released, though

SimonRichards Posted 20 September, 2010 Share Posted 20 September, 2010 The plan was to got to New York for her 30th Birthday. I planned to get tickets sorted by the weekend the BANG 9/11!! We watched the News and footage of that terrible day, and all of a sudden NY lost it appeal. I ended up doing it on Christmas morning, after she has opened all her presents I got down on bended knee and said 'you have one more to open' Obviously said Yes! Been happily married for 8.5 years now.

SNSUN Posted 20 September, 2010 Share Posted 20 September, 2010 Is this the Lounge or the Muppet Show? Oh, the Lounge, well I'll be sensible then. I'm going to propose to my missus soon, but want to do it perfectly, have the ring, choose the setting and choose the scenario. She's already moaned at me that I haven't proposed anyway, so I know she'll say yes. (Which, if anything, could mean I can be a cheapskate and do it whilst watching Eastenders or something, and save myself a fortune. My best mate did it in Browns in Windsor, no ring, no idea, no bending on one knee, he was just a bit drunk. She said yes. I think he regrets it now. Incidentally, I've been with my missus for 4 and a half years, is there any time in a relationship when it becomes "weird" that we haven't got engaged? My mate did it after 2 years of his relationship, and thinks it's odd that I haven't yet proposed.

My mate did it after 2 years of his relationship, and thinks it's odd that I haven't yet proposed. Me and my now wife were together for 3 years when I popped the question, and then it was another 18 months until we were married. Now been married for 5 years and still going strong. Do not think there is any time limit, some are happy not to get married at all, others have long engagments and some get engaged and never married. I feel that if you get engaged then you sshould get married pretty soon afterward (within 2 years) or it is a bit of an empty promise, and you might as well just not bother. Just my opinion. I think you tend to know, if you think you are ready to spend the rest of your life with someone then why not get married and make that commitement, but others may see it as why do you need to do it for a bit of paper. I was the first one. I was not going to be rushed into it though, it had to be when I knew it was right, after having a really rubbish relationship before I met my wife, I could see that this was a proper relationship with give and take, and a shared respect with my soulmate and best friend. You will know when it is right, you just get the feeling. I told my wife if she kept going on about it I would never ask, and she left it for over a year, and then I popped the question.
