Toadhall Saint Posted 24 September, 2010 Posted 24 September, 2010 is he really though? not from what I've seen - constantly caught out of position - not sure what game it was but Fonte got the stick but if Butterfield had beeen doing his job Fonte, wouldn't have had a decision to make. Jury is very much out on him as far as I'm concerned.
Legod Third Coming Posted 24 September, 2010 Posted 24 September, 2010 I was chuffed Lloyd got a decent round of applause when he came on. Say what you like about him, a good lad, decent pro who gave his all. Give me ten of them over a badge kisser any day of the week.
Whitey Grandad Posted 24 September, 2010 Posted 24 September, 2010 is he really though? Almost anyone is a better right back than Lloyd James. He was one of the most ineffective that I have ever seen in that position.
docker-p Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 There maybe better players around, but good or bad the only players who deserve abuse are those that don't try; and James always gives 100%

saintjinksie Posted 25 September, 2010 Posted 25 September, 2010 He took most of our set pieces for about a 5-6 month period. First ten games where Lallana = very poor service, then up until January it was Lloyd James = half decent set pieces, then he was out injured for the rest of the season. Lets not forget he also got a couple of very important goals, the first against Exeter and equaliser against Brentford. Shame he got injured in that match when he was just starting to get a run of games in the middle. He wasn't perfect by any means, too slow and not really tall enough to dominate wingers/strikers, but he gets far too much stick on here which IMO is down to the fact he's an easy target after the Dutch era... it wasnt an equaliser, it was an opener and he is average at best
st alex Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 I can never understand animostity against players who come up through our youth system, they generally have a strong affiliation to the club and generally are determinded and hard working, as was the case with James. The same with Lancashire, just a young player who started to break into team, no doubt because of injuries to other players, he didn't quite cut the mustard so was let go, there's no real need to hate a young player just for not quite being good enough - who probably wouldn't be good enough for our current squad, but was nowhere nearly as bad as people made out. I thought James did a decent job for us, he wasn't the quickest, but neither is half our team, and its hardly an esential attribute for a league one right back. He cost the club nothing and would have been on lower wages than many other players, since when he played a fair few games for us, under different managers he couldn't have been that bad, its not as if we had better options, like Dani Alves sitting on the bench.

Agreed. James was a cack defender but never held himself out as one and was a victim of Lowe's ludicrous last hurrah. However he is a midfileder with some decent ability and I hope he makes a good career for himself.
