Ohio Saint Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 I don't care if I'm paying 5 quid, 15 quid, or 1 quid. I'm paying. The satandard of service on this site during match day is apalling! As an overseas supporter, the only real reason I use this site is so that I can communicate with other fans on a live basis. Any time a goal is scored the site goes down for the remainder of the game. It's just not good enough!. It's not like it is a new thing, it has always happened. Yes, I should have learned by now. I should NOT have stumped up another fiver knowing how it has been in the past. I mistakingly expected that those that run this site would have worked toward fixing the issue. Apparently not. Fix it guys! You are taking cash for a service. Please try and be professional about it! If a fiver is not enough to do the job, then charge a tenner! A site that works for a tenner is better value than a crap site that sucks every match day for a fiver. Rant over, but still very ****ed off! I am very much for upgrading to latest versions etc (i work in IT etc) but only for enhancement. It seems that some of the new stuff with the latest vBulletin release put extra load on the server........ Before the upgrade we were jogging, now we have a backpack full of bricks to contend with Edited 15 September, 2010 by saint_stevo
Ohio Saint Posted 15 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Ah, OK, thanks for the link. I should have searched first, but to be honest I was spitting feathers when I started this thread. (Still am) As it's a duplicate, I suppose the mods will close this....but i'm still peed off!! jawillwill Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 I think it should be £5-10/month to use the site. It would keep a lot of the pikeys away.
Ohio Saint Posted 15 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 September, 2010 I think it should be £5-10/month to use the site. It would keep a lot of the pikeys away. Bottom line is, that if you are paying money (Any amount) for something, it should work properly. The amount of cash you pay is determined by market forces, but the product should always be "Of merchantable quality" If it is offered for sale. saint lard Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 As posted on the forum suggestions thread earlier..... However much i appreciated the effort that goes into running this site,i am appalled. I am now a paying customer and you are providing a service. I have worked in the service industry at a substantially high level,if i do not provide that service then i expect critisim and the customer deserves an apology and assurances improvements will be made. Unfortunately for sometime now the service you provide is falling short. Matchday is going to be busy,so please make provision for the sevice to be available. Cut out the 'blogs' the supposed 'improvements' and all the add-ons,supply what most come here for,a sustainable football forum on matchdays. This site is brilliant in the main, supplying informative, highly enjoyable and entertaining times, yet cannot deliver what it is here to do..supply a lifeline for football fans to remain updated and post comments during a matchday without interuption to that sevice. By charging you have obligations. Please start to meet those obligations. Regards.

Ohio Saint Posted 15 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Lol. I bet you don't get a response There is only one response I am interested in, and that is a fully functional forum on match days. I don't care about all the rest, i can find it on the interwebs. I don't need to look at all the "look at me" threads and the "I told you so" threads. The only real purpose of this forum for me is to have at least a semblance of being a part of the crowd on match day. As soon as anyone scores that crowd vanishes into the ether. It's not what I pay for.

1976_Child Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 I totally agree with the OP. Frankly, the service is not up to scratch. If this was still a student project then fine, no harm done. But this web site is owned by a for-profit company and we pay our money. Every single game there is considerable 'crash time' where the server just can't handle the traffic. I take my hat off to the students who have got this going, but they need to have a reality check. If they are running a for profit company, they need to deliver the goods. I suggest, that what may have started out as a 'wonderful idea' has since turned out to be a bit of a drag as the cash-flow has not supported the necessary infrastructure spend. £5 a year is really not enough to charge. Either be a free forum, or be a real business. You can't cut it both ways. Servers cost money, bandwidth costs money and perhaps most importantly your interest costs money; you lads need to be kept keen. So charge a proper fee. £5 per month is more like it. Many won't pay, so restrict them to perhaps 20 posts per month. Or maybe only 5 posts per match thread.
Whitey Grandad Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 I agree. And the quality of the posts is atrocious. I expect more for my fiver.

dune Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 (edited) I don't understand how other far busier forums have no issues, but this one always does on matchdays. I think that maybe to much time and money has been spent on the off-shoots when all that really matters is the core purpose - the forum. That said anyone who complains about paying £5 per year is an idiot - it's peanuts. Edited 16 September, 2010 by dune
dune Posted 16 September, 2010 Share Posted 16 September, 2010 Just noticed this on the forum suggestions page: OK, we've taken it on board. Baj has said it should be fixed and will refund anyone who is not 100% satisfied with the servie for the Colchester game. Regards, The Admin Team Fair play to them for the offer. Ohio Saint Posted 16 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 16 September, 2010 That said anyone who complains about paying £5 per year is an idiot - it's peanuts. I agree, it's peanuts. As I said before, the price is not the issue. It's the fact that it is a pay site that does not work properly. If the problem with the site is cash, then the fees need to be reviewed to get the problem solved. If it were free, then I wouldn't care that it doesn't work. Either way, the server infrastructure has to be sufficient to provide the expected service which has been paid for.
Baj Posted 17 September, 2010 Share Posted 17 September, 2010 Firstly, I appreciate your concerns above. As a user as well as an admin, it ****es me off too when the forums down. A couple of facts first though. The money collected and thus invested pays for the server and other features. If it paid for mine and steves salaries too I'm sure we would jump in and fix stuff asap as it happens, we have to fit upgrades and tests around our day jobs. We're only saying this to point out that we CANT fix everything when issues occur. Yes, if we had stuck with the old forum software then the forum most likely wouldnt go down on match days. However, we need to take the site onwards and upwards and that has meant a vast amount of time invested in the new features. The problems that we are experiencing now stem from issues specifically with the forum software. I am happy to say that steve has been working on these very recently and we are hoping that come tomorrow, the server will stay up. If it doesnt, then we will continue to investigate and tweak. thanks
Johnny Bognor Posted 17 September, 2010 Share Posted 17 September, 2010 spot on. or maybe £1 per game. What with the ticket tax, if we introduce a TSW match tax, Dune will do his nut!
Ohio Saint Posted 17 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 September, 2010 Thanks for the comments, Baj. I should point out that the OP was made directly after the game the other day, so I was particularly annoyed. Baj Posted 17 September, 2010 Share Posted 17 September, 2010 no its fine, ohio saint. The points are completely valid and you should expect a service that's up all the time. The reason for me adding my comments to this thread were to point out that a) we are aware there are problems b) you are indeed entitled to a site that's up all the time c) we are doing our best to resolve problems with the available time that we have

stevegrant Posted 17 September, 2010 Share Posted 17 September, 2010 I was doing some testing with Steve earlier and i too am hopeful about the forum tomorrow Should point out that at no point was I using work time to do this... Also, quite difficult to test what we need to test without actually having hundreds of people online at once. We've got just over 200 online at the moment, but that's fairly standard for mid-afternoons. The proof of the pudding will be at 5pm tomorrow, but it's likely to be a bit of a trial and error scenario to get the database config absolutely right. saint_stevo Posted 17 September, 2010 Share Posted 17 September, 2010 I think the equation of BSOD'ing the DB is- Volume of users+refreshes+new posts= wipeout This death triangle is USUALLY only complete on match days, or when there is big news like when ML died, so luke SG says its trial and error for each match thread (problem is Steve goes to the matches!)
