Yep, it is terrible that a League One club has appointed a man that has been a League One manager in 2006/07 and 2008/09 and got promoted both times with a tiny budget and crowds 1/4 the size of Saints.

ffs :D

yeah, but is he really an improvement on Pardew??? monumentally underwhelmed I'm afraid, but sincerely hope to be proved wrong....

Thorpe you were right and I posted it in a few places. It convinced me that the deal was on for tonight.

Very happy and relieved by the appointment.

Nicola Cortese is bigging up the club in his announcement and quite right too. We all want to be proud of our club. A 3 year contract shows intent on the clubs part. As for the Howe situation. Looks like he was interviewd like a few other candidates. He clearly withdrew after he considered the situation. Bit different that turning down an offer which did not sem to have ocurred.

Onward and upwards. Come on you Saints.

Hardly football contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on, I imagine he's got until the end of the season to prove himself.

Oh well there goes a nice happy, positive thread - we all got along for one page!

"With a sport psychology diploma, a business and finance diploma, a UEFA Pro coaching badge, a diploma in 'applied management in professional football' from Warwick Business School, and an honours degree in physiotherapy"

I'd say that makes him more ambitous and more qualified to run this team than any of the whinging ninnies on this forum.

3 year deal could mean expensive compo at the end of the season! (Joke, don't get tetchy)

I'm in full support of this appointment. I don't know too much about Adkins, askide from his obvious managerial achievements, but it's clear our first team need a captain to steer the ship - we MUST get the team performing again, to a level we all know they can. We need to pick up the few remaining good freebies and/or utilise the loan window to bolster the attack. I hope, and trust, Adkins can see the flaws in our squad and does something about it. Cortese must back his choice with whatever is needed.

We're a working progress, I don't expect immediate results on Wednesday, but I would appreciate the team upping their performance in support of their new gaffer. Fingers crossed we can stop the rot that has taken over this club in recent weeks, and move up the table to where we all feel we should be.

Welcome to Saints Nigel. Now we've got this out of the way at last a quick viewing of this season's matches (bar Bristol Rovers where I was ill and couldn't go...) will reveal that we are lost without Lallana and that Jaidi, Lambert and Puncheon need to be put on a diet and that the captain is probably the worst midfielder that he's ever seen (unless he's seen Paul Wotton). Hopefully he'll get on the phone to all of these Premier League and NPC managers that all say they admire him and produce four loan players with pace, steel and a will to win (sadly lacking this season). I want him to remind our overpaid failures that they are lucky to be at our club and this honuor now has to be earned along with the fans respect. A ban on player comment bar Fonte as first team captain on the OS would be helpful, all comment is to be in goals and wins. "Unlucky" is a banned word. Forget the favourites tag, the players have to show NA and the fans they deserve to be here and once they do that, the season will start proper.

I imagine that those who gave Pardew a hard time will also be expecting Adkins to get promotion in his first season. If he doesn't.........eek

I'm really pleased with the appointment, Adkins was my main choice (since i never bought into the MON ****). He knows the league plays decent football and is young enough to build. Oh and he knows the league above should we get there. Good appointment, shame it didn't come sooner!

Well something not right about it.

I'm a graphic designer and i'd hazard a guess that it's been given a certain amount of post production, there's fairly high contrasts and black balance on it, and if you look at the sky you can see how they pushed the saturation levels up (and sharpness) slightly. Also it looks like they've used a decent compression level to me, taken it down from a very high quality nicely.

Well if he wins a cup and gets us promoted in his first season he can say he has done better Dune.

Pardew should've got us into the play-offs last year from us being 6 points adrift around December time. But this isn't the thread for this.

Square peg for a round hole IMHO, I hope I'm wrong - but he's going to be used to players who want to prove themselves, not established pros. Should be good for Ox-Cham and probably Mills, but he won't be used to having some of the egos some of our players seem to have unveiled in the past few months.

If his motivation and coaching gets them performing though, great. Top 2 is still minimum expectation for a manager with our stable, established squad and the talent they're supposed to have - let's hope he can deliver.

Still not wasting my time going to MK though...

It might have helped if we hadn't been ten further points behind by the time we'd played 2 more league matches just due to everyone else playing league games while we were in the FA Cup and had a match postponed. But anyway, take it outside.

Very very happy with this indeed. No more hoofball!!!! WOOP WOOP!

Interesting how cortese mentioned that NA was in fact the ONLY person they offered the job to. That little blagger Eddie Howe!!!

Eddie Howe sounded embarrassed by the questions from Solent on the subject on Saturday - very coy....as if his Chairman had dropped him in it with his bull**** press release.

The only established pro's we've got is Davis, Lambert and Connelly (who's past it). If any of the others think they're senior players they can think again.

He's perhaps just the right man for the situation we're in now. I just hope he can have an immediate impact, otherwise our promotion campaign is going to be over before it even began. A couple of loan signings and a win or two is what we need in the next couple of weeks to get back on track.

"we were inundated with applications from an impressive range of managers-a far cry from the position we found ourselves in when we last appointed a new manager"

Could that be a little dig at AP,the best of a bad lot? in his opinion.

The Questions Thread

He had been astonished at the number and calibre of people who applied or expressed interest via their agents or solicitors, including two “serving” premiership managers and lots from the championship. By contrast, when he arrived he had to go knocking on doors to get anyone to apply. He expected an appointment to be made “very soon”. He warned us to be ready for lots of stories from those who had never been offered the post claiming they had turned it down etc. and lots of other speculation and untrue stories in the press.

Perhaps not a dig
