Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that it has today appointed Nigel Adkins as the Club's new First Team Manager on a three year deal. The appointment follows an intense, but thorough search, with the Club having received a very high volume and quality of applications, the majority of which came from well respected managers currently working in the top two divisions of English football and abroad."
kpturner Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 How come you get a sticky when it was already accounced on the other Adkins sticky beforehand?
exit2 Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Taken long enough but Im very happy it is all sorted
Topcat Posted 12 September, 2010 Author Posted 12 September, 2010 How come you get a sticky when it was already accounced on the other Adkins sticky beforehand? Jealous?
corky morris Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Enjoyed the comment about being the only manager that was offered the job so either NC or the Bournemouth chairman is telling porky pies! I hope it works out, but I am not wholly convinced.
CWD Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Absolutely fantastic, welcome Nigel delighted
Topcat Posted 12 September, 2010 Author Posted 12 September, 2010 Press Release from Scunny http://www.s****horpe-united.co.uk/page/News/0,,10442~2152040,00.html Assistant manager Andy Crosby will join him at the League One club after the two clubs agreed a compensation package for the pair. Speaking on Sunday evening, Adkins said: "I am delighted to be the manager of Southampton. "It's a very proud honour for myself, and Andy Crosby who is joining me as assistant manager, to join a club with such a big tradition. "I'm very proud to have been given the opportunity by the chairman, Nicola Cortese, and look forward to taking the football club forward. "I'm really looking forward to this fresh new challenge, and I'm very optimistic of where we can take this football club." It ends a 14-year association with United for Adkins, who was physiotherapist for a decade before becoming caretaker manager following the departure of Brian Laws in November 2006.

Joesaint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 This is great great news, I am really excited, I expect it will take a while to settle but right know i'm got a really good feeling, I can feel promotion in my bones ha ha. PS didnt know one person could get so many qualifications!!!!!! PPS COYS
Edmonton Saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Very Underwhelmed I am afraid. Not convinced he is the right man for the job.
kpturner Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Jealous?Completely and utterly....I have never had a sticky :-(
dubai_phil Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Good. Welcome Nigel. Now enough of the congratulatory rubbish, get down to Staplewood and KICK SOME FECKING A#S
CWD Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8387296.Adkins_is_new_Saints_manager/ The echo article if anyone's interested, they got there before the OS.... Horse's head on the sports desk tomorrow morning I fear
dune Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 I'm very happy with the choice Nicole has made.
SO16_Saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 How dramatic is the photo, by the way. Am loving the grayscale of the photos nowadays
La BoIS Saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Glad it's been sorted, hope it works out.
Colinjb Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Nigel Adkins red and white army! +1. Glad it's finally sorted. In Nigel we Trust.
dune Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Just to add that photoshopped picture made me cringe.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Welcome Nigel. Get stuck in,sort us out and get us up the table ASAP.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Very Underwhelmed I am afraid. Not convinced he is the right man for the job. Yep, it is terrible that a League One club has appointed a man that has been a League One manager in 2006/07 and 2008/09 and got promoted both times with a tiny budget and crowds 1/4 the size of Saints. ffs
DG Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Finally! Time to get our season back on track.
kpturner Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Just to add that photoshopped picture made me cringe.Do you mind?? That took me minutes to knock up...
saint lard Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 "we were inundated with applications from an impressive range of managers-a far cry from the position we found ourselves in when we last appointed a new manager" Could that be a little dig at AP,the best of a bad lot? in his opinion.
alpine_saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Welcome Nigel, and good luck. I note that he is the only person to have been offered the job, so the Howe stuff is b*ll*cks.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Just to add that photoshopped picture made me cringe. It is not photoshopped.

Absolutely it was a dig.
Dr Who? Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Now lets get back to winning ways on Wednesday and get off to a flier and not look back!
waggy Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Very Underwhelmed I am afraid. Not convinced he is the right man for the job. it's called being realistic
saint-ross Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Well pleased with this! From the videos i've seen of him during interviews he comes across very well, and appears to be a guy who players respect. Time to kick on!! COYR!
View From The Top Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Enjoyed the comment about being the only manager that was offered the job so either NC or the Bournemouth chairman is telling porky pies! Give it to Ron Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Very Underwhelmed I am afraid. Not convinced he is the right man for the job. How did you feel when we appointed Strachan and the Redknapp? Just so we can get a feel for if you are on a hat-trick!
Dr Who? Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 It is not photoshopped. No just poor light, that picture was taken late this evening I reckon.
Topcat Posted 12 September, 2010 Author Posted 12 September, 2010 Good. Welcome Nigel. Now enough of the congratulatory rubbish, get down to Staplewood and KICK SOME FECKING A#S In a co-operative manner?
Arizona Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Glad it's been sorted before we lose more games under Wilkins. Not saying we will definitely win from now on, but there is at least hope. Some people may be underwhelmed. Well, he has taken Scunny up twice on a shoestring budget and done a great job of keeping them in the CCC. He knows how to get out of League 1. He may not be the man to take us to the Europa League, but that's a very distant dream at the moment. He is what we need AT THE MOMENT. That's good enough.
Weston Saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Very happy and relieved by the appointment. Nicola Cortese is bigging up the club in his announcement and quite right too. We all want to be proud of our club. A 3 year contract shows intent on the clubs part. As for the Howe situation. Looks like he was interviewd like a few other candidates. He clearly withdrew after he considered the situation. Bit different that turning down an offer which did not sem to have ocurred. Onward and upwards. Come on you Saints.
sotonjoe Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Glad it's over, but underwhelmed on the surface. If he was the best applicant, we're obviously not that respected amongst football managers. I'll be behind the team evry step of the way though.
CWD Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 He's brought Crosby with him, but what does this mean for Wilkins? and do we still need a GK coach? Feeling positive right now, come on you sashes WIFM!
itchen_dan Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 "we were inundated with applications from an impressive range of managers-a far cry from the position we found ourselves in when we last appointed a new manager" Could that be a little dig at AP,the best of a bad lot? in his opinion. Yes possibly. It's saying that the lot we were "offered" just weren't good enough so he went with Pardew either because he was the best out of the lot or because of the "big" name that had been there done it sort of thing. Either way, very happy with this appointment and as others have said, hope we can begin to climb the table now asap! 3 points against our favourite club on Wednesday would be a good start. He has a strong record to keep up against the dons...
dune Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 It is not photoshopped. Well something not right about it.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 12 September, 2010 Posted 12 September, 2010 Now hes here lets hope the players respond accordingly and start to win some games.
