Assistant manager Andy Crosby will join him at the League One club after the two clubs agreed a compensation package for the pair.

 

Speaking on Sunday evening, Adkins said: "I am delighted to be the manager of Southampton.

 

"It's a very proud honour for myself, and Andy Crosby who is joining me as assistant manager, to join a club with such a big tradition.

 

"I'm very proud to have been given the opportunity by the chairman, Nicola Cortese, and look forward to taking the football club forward.

 

"I'm really looking forward to this fresh new challenge, and I'm very optimistic of where we can take this football club."

 

It ends a 14-year association with United for Adkins, who was physiotherapist for a decade before becoming caretaker manager following the departure of Brian Laws in November 2006.

Yep, it is terrible that a League One club has appointed a man that has been a League One manager in 2006/07 and 2008/09 and got promoted both times with a tiny budget and crowds 1/4 the size of Saints.

Glad it's been sorted before we lose more games under Wilkins. Not saying we will definitely win from now on, but there is at least hope.

 

Some people may be underwhelmed. Well, he has taken Scunny up twice on a shoestring budget and done a great job of keeping them in the CCC. He knows how to get out of League 1. He may not be the man to take us to the Europa League, but that's a very distant dream at the moment.

 

He is what we need AT THE MOMENT. That's good enough.

Yes possibly. It's saying that the lot we were "offered" just weren't good enough so he went with Pardew either because he was the best out of the lot or because of the "big" name that had been there done it sort of thing.

 

Either way, very happy with this appointment and as others have said, hope we can begin to climb the table now asap! 3 points against our favourite club on Wednesday would be a good start. He has a strong record to keep up against the dons...
