Looking forward to Adkins?

Someones personal preference for manager is perfectly entitled. The trouble is everyone had different standards based on their own life and based in what they are used to. In this case we are used to "mainly" having preety good "names" as our manager. Rightly or wrongly most peoples opinion or expectation of where we should be playing is in the Premier. After all for about 40 out of the last 50-55 years we have competed there, and that time frame preety much covers most of our fanbase.

With the best financial backing we have ever had I fir one expect us to return to the Prem in no more than 3 years. To achieve that means an exciting journey will be upon us.

Can Adkins deliver something at a club who's owners and fans have high expectations on the back of a very limited career?

Will Adkins be able to attract the players neccessary?

Will Adkins get the respect and trust of the fans?

These are the main questions that for me cast doubt on his appointment being a success.

I will back the manager whoever he is but I think in out current situation Adkins is more of a "risk" appointment than a "solid" appointment. He's definitely not exciting and if he come in will have to work very quickly!!!

Looking forward to Adkins?

Yes I bloody well am!

Me too. Big time.

A manager's job to get the best out of the available resources, and he has proven that he can do that. Pardew didn't.

I'm so sick of reading the infantile pleas for "a big name" as though that, in itself, is the cure for all our ills. It sure as hell isn't.

I can't wait for Adkins to get here.

I'm very much looking forward to him. Think his style of play will be a breath of fresh air.

Ah, but THAT was exactly the point I was trying to make! Will his style of play be ANY DIFFERENT to what we've been experiencing? Lots of possession, no result? And particularly with the players available in this squad. I've just listened to Wilkins moan about the lack of options on the bench and having to play a 17 year old week in week out. Well if things are that bad, then I hope NC has given Adkins an 'open chequebook' to bring in some loanees to displace some of the 1st team.

I'm sure he is a very adequate manager, but as an appointment i'm pretty underwhelmed to be honest.

Why is this suddenly the buzz word for Saints fans? It's all I ever read on here nowadays.

We're getting a manager (allegedly) from a higher league than we're playing in, but some people still want more. We're a League 1 club with League 1 players (playing like League 2 players right now) - we have absolutely no divine right to a "big name" manager.

Adkins or no Adkins...stand by for another humping at MK Dons midweek.......this blend of players are not performing with or without a manager. I wish the new manager good luck, he's going to need it with this bunch!!

.. and I bought a ticket for this back in August... still going... but we are not the club i thought was going to support!!!!

I realise some people will consider me bonkers, but...........

I think Adkins has the potential to be more successful than Lawrie Mac!

He's achieved miracles at a tiny club, he's very intelligent and has more badges than is actually required

I like his interviews too, I imagine he's a great motivator & that's what we need right now

If the rumours of the appointment are true I actually feel very underwhelmed but my temporary avatar may give my real preferences away. I will of course support the decision but I have doubts whether he is the man to take us forward to the promised land and cannot see his credentials are as high as some of the other alleged applicants. :(

Said that for years. The core majority are reactionary, frothy mouthed simpletons.

we really do....moan moan moan..need to know the smallest detail on everything..need an explanation on every but of gossip/romour...not happy that we are loaded...not happy with the possibility of a manager who plays good football and who has won promotion twice in 3 years AND willing to drop a league.

add that to those mongs who really think MoN is a realistic possibility

I think the pressure is NOT getting to the players..but to sections of the saints web forum...never have we been favourites and now some cant deal with it in a proper manor

I'm sure there must be loads, but can you remind me of some managers who have voluntarily dropped down a league when changing clubs and been successful (as opposed to those who were out of work or sacked when they moved down 1 or more divisions)? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I wasn't a fan of Pardew and was not sorry to see him go, but surely Wilkins is going to take over the role of 'work caretaker manager we ever had' when someone writes the story of our second 200 years.

I'm very concerned about Adkins though, having heard that he spoke about himself in the third person the other day.

With the notable exception of your avatar, what other alleged applicants are there who are better qualified ? KK perhaps, but not really linked anywhere but on here.Howe is less qualified, and please lets not bring perma-tanned man Brown into it again.

Are you asking this question on the back of one S****horpe result (today's game) or have you been following their goals to shots on target ratio for some time?

Well I guess if I knew all the answers I wouldn't be asking the questions! Trouble with this forum now is that too many have an agenda to deflate any sort of debate by either being out and out abusive or others that try to belittle genuine posts trying to gauge opinion...(perhaps like your carefully shrouded comment?).

I have previously stated my backing for NA, however looking at todays stats in isolation make me wonder whether he will have a big problem turning this squad around quickly. And if that continues on into the Xmas period - well, we could be looking at a new Manager in January.

Well let's see, Scunny lost 2-0 at home today. And that was with a massive 61% of possession, 11 shots on target, 10 shots off target, 10 corners.

Now if that's the type of result heading our way I'm wondering what's going to change?! OK, so this is slightly said tongue in cheek and I guess Scunny's teams thoughts were elsewhere today, however I think we need to be very prepared for Adkins to take quite sometime to turn things around here.

If you are seriously looking at todays match stats to select our new manager then Tisdale stands out:

Exeter today, away at Hartlepool.2-1 down at halftime, come back to win 3-2.

From the BBC they had 32% possession, and 5 shots on target.

As you say however, whoever comes in will need time to turn it round.Although a KK or MON might have an immediate impact they are no longer - if indeed they ever were - under consideration.

I desperately want Adkins to do well, I still think Howe will turn into a top manager (another impressive win today) and disappointed he was not the one.

Hurry up and get NA in so we dont have too much to catch up.He really needs to get our forwards scoring and a lot more pace

Mate, it's one game. It's just totally bizarre to ask this question after one defeat's worth of stats, and in fact raising it makes you look like the one with an agenda. Don't mean to have a go, it's just this forum is unbelievable at the moment - questioning a manager before he's even arrived based on nothing concrete.

Spot on. Whilst agree that yes, we've seemingly been dogsh1t so far this season, why are so many people slicing their wrists up after 3, 4, 5 games into the season?

And, as you've mentioned also, the obsessive, fanatical, stalker-like analysis of every, single detail is ridiculous. It's probably the same section of fanbase that ridiculed and dismissed the appointment of Strachan, signings of Marsden, Crouch in the past no doubt. Oh, and I really hope Cortese doesn't read this forum as he'd actually realise what a bunch of ungrateful, suicidal retards he's serving. Yes, he's made a few unpopular decisions but some of the comments and allegations against Cortese are bloody ridiculous. Still, we're Saints fans, right? We have a god given right to win every game and be back in the Premier League within two years...

To be honest, whenever it goes tits up, I'm used to shrugging my shoulders and saying "it's exactly what we deserve"...

Seems like game after game, after f'kin game though that we have the same issues...opened well, didn't score, conceded, then fell to pieces...followed by some inevitable responses on here.

I have a similar view, I wonder if Howe (youngest manager in all divisions?) did not think he was ready yet to leave Bmouth. Though it will be interesting to see how Adkins tackles a number of issues especially our inability to break teams down at home.

Having watched the game today, what we need is a quality motivator/man manager. Get the heads up and gel the team. The skills are there, they just appear very low with regard to moral. If Adkins can bring this to the table together with some intelligent tactics he will do well! And I believe he can also!

We desperately need a manager that has a Plan B. AP struggled with this and DW certainly is clueless when it comes to tactics. OK the bench is definately alot weaker this season but some of the substitutions are are bizarre to say the least.

Just hope Adkins can change things mid game if things not going to plan. A loan striker and winger is a must.

Look, he hasn't even f*cking got here yet.

Give the bloke a chance.

He's got qualifications to manage a football club, more than you can say for most of these ex-England premiership footballers have, a la Shearer.

Don't forget that Bates and McMenemy were practically unknown when they started as managers here too.

I clearly don't understand the concept of a football supporters forum then. I mean we've just lost another game dominating play. The Manager that is supposedly coming in to turn things around oversees a game which is lost despite dominating play and not scoring, despite knowing all the players at his disposal. I thought there was enough synergy in these facts to have a reasonable debate. Afterall, the appointment of the new Manager is THE biggest and most important topic in Saints world at the moment.

And to all those that think NC is up at night worrying about what's written on a fans forum need to get out and sample a bit of the real world.

NA would not have been my first choice, nor for that matter my second or third. But there's no doubt he's a capable guy and for a third tier club, which is what we are, he is more than qualified so we shouldn't be so dismissive nor patronising.

My concern, and it should be his, is if we aren't promoted this season will he be out of a job? If that's the message he's been given and I were him i'd stay put, better the devil you know!

Whilst of course the players are professionals and ideally the current going ons shouldn't have an impact on their performance on the pitch, it must add to the sense of uncertainty, new manager normally means change of personnel, not just off the pitch but amongst the players.

If it is to be NA then please god give him time, NC needs to show some faith (that's not to say he didn't with AP as I have no idea why the dissmisal came about) but let the guy go to work, give him three years and yes if he needs to develop with us then so be it, but this sense of constant change does noone any good least of all the players.

i think we are bad for it...I live in plymouth and they are no where near as bad as this...

they were very happy (in general) to get peter reid in as manager.....I dread to think the meltdown if he came here.

adkins is a very astute appointment IMO..on the way up, knows this league and knows how to play football..

yet, some still think we can get MoN.....

oh I don't know about that take this thread from plymouth forums replace the name of the manager and it could have been us last season

If saints fans are whinging more this year it's probably becuase they've had there hopes built up to fever pitch before the season started only to see them being dashed already. I agree on the manager front though MON LOL.

Adkins appointment now looks inevitable. I am worried that the more senior players will regard him as inexperienced and a tool to be manipulated by Reed and Cortese. They will just not respect him.

considering reed hs no influence on the first team..that would be highly unlikely...you knew that, as you commented on the thread..are you trying to look for a problem that may not even exist..?

as for inexperienced...yeah, most of who have only really played at league 1 level..so yeah he is probably going to be the 2nd most experienced manager they work for so far in theur careers...

unless you count the likes of dean wilkins (at brighton) paul trollope, paul ince, paul tisdale, andy scott and steve tilson more experienced than adkins at winning enough games to get oiut of this league

I am amazed at the level of utter bollix some actually spout on here

There is, of course, the possibility that he has had a change of heart and will not take the job. In which case its back to square one and look for an umpteenth choice manager! Look out for several more games of no end result and minimal points if so!

If NA does get the job, as we assume, at least we will know for sure if he is able to motivate and get the best out of our bunch. We've seen AP win games convincingly, we've seen DW fail to do anything close to that. We can't go out and buy new talent so until Jan we're stuck with what we have now, so the only way NA will have any chance of success is to live up to this reputation that he can get the best out of players.

If we're back on track come Jan, I'll be very impressed with the appointment. That's my timeline for him to prove himself.

Through the Transfer Committee, Reed + his staff can out vote the Team Mgr on who comes in or is sold/loaned out by the Club.

Why do you struggle to understand that this was a major cause of conflict with any Team Mgr?

If the pressure isn't getting to the players DD, what do you think the problem is? We scored loads last season, why has that dried up?

Lallana is injured. Lambert is injured / not fully fit after his preseason injury.

Those two alone significantly improved us last season.

In addition, Antonio and Waigo are history, Puncheon isn't scoring and Barnard is suspended.

So we're effectively four attacking players down and two more are not firing at 100%. No wonder we're not scoring like we were last season.

Without anything to back this up, I'd suggest that transfer committees are far from abnormal in today's game.

I don't think there are too many managers in the Premier League or any other division who can just make their own (often multi-million pound) decisions in isolation and then ask for the money.

And, frankly, I think it makes sense to include other perspectives.
