no rush for today really, while it would be nice for him to watch tomorrow I doubt whether him starting today, or Mnoday would make much difference to him or our season.

Quite good for him and their fans for him to say goodbye.

Adkins and Saints will get their way. S****horpe wont want a manager who is not 100% focussed and clearly wants to go to Saints therefore they will agree compensation today. As far as I'm concerned Saints are holding the cards. Should they delay or look elsewhere S****horpe are left with a manager who will be demotivated (even if he is a professional guy with principles) so I would imagine they will meet halfway on the amount paid. As frustrating as it may seem to us fans this is how negotiations are done by people with business brain.

There are millions at stake, so to delay things over £50k to £100k is a bad business decision.

I can't believe if that is the level of compensation involved that we are in any argument over it.I would have thought "buying out" the remaining contracts would be in excess of that.

I heard a report from BBC Humberside - courtesy of a link provided on here - that they were seeking a "modest" sum probably no more than £60,000 and thought that would be off the mark but that sort of figure seems to re -emerge.

From the current impasse I certainly have sympathy with the Sc^nthorpe chairman in seeking compensation;remember the outrage when Hoddle left us, although of course that was without giving him permission to talk to them.

Also surprises me that they allowed him to speak to us without prior agreement on compensation.

It's only 'dragged on too long' because we've heard about it. If it had been confidential it would have just been usual negotiations with any manager and club. Media sensationalising and rumour is no reason to turn down a good manager.

No, its dragged on too long because it's dragged on too long.

Tomorrow will be the third match without a manager. Unacceptable.

I listened live online when they discussed the compensation figure. They had no idea so one of their guys guessed a figure. They were looking to slag us off - especially NC! So take 60k with a pinch of salt....

What have Villa got to do with us? They're not trying to get out of the third division, and their managerial change was because their boss resigned, ours got sacked.

Completely different circumstances.

How are they different? Both MoN's resignation and Pardews sacking were unplanned events. Which division the club is in in irrelevant. Arguably Villa have more to lose than Saints.

I interpret that £50k to £100k is the gap, not the value of the total package. FFS it is a small rounding error on the wage bill that the Manager is expected to get the best out of.

I fully expect that the Adkins deal will go through, probably later today but are there any known alternatives still on NC's radar assuming that NA and Howe have been accounted for, and according to last nights 'Dinner with NC', Brown been discounted ?

I expect KK and MON were taken off the list,if they were ever on it in the first place,a while back.

Hypothetically, if we lose tomorrow, would Wilkins have the worst managerial reign in our history? Ignoring caretaker status of course?

What the exact amount is not important,it sends the message that although we are reported to be a rich Club we will not pay through the nose for anything or anyone if we think it can be negotiated down to what we want to pay. Most of us do it every day in a smaller way it's called good housekeeping.

If he wins tomorrow he'll have a better record than Pearson.

It may be harsh but I really hope it isn't Adkins.....

Me to, seems like the moment has gone and has not started off on the greatest footing. Not the fault of Adkins himself, but I am afriad I am not a fan anyway.

No Difference surely, if the sacking had to happen there and then?

"A number of candidates" could have been two when the piece was first written yesterday, and it seems that Adkins refusal to resign from Scunny which put more pressure on SFC to agree the compensation figure resulted in the offer being made to Howe, which he turned down. Knowing he was second choice could have played a part in that. The "number of candidates" today might be just the one and it seems likely the pressure is on now to agree the compensation. Wharton is doing absolutely the right thing in trying firstly to keep his manager and if he can't, to get the best deal for his club, but reports of what he has said today look a little more defeatist and mention of a 'modest' sum in compensation possibly as low as £50k.

Although Adkins took training at Sc u nthorpe this morning there seems a strong probability that an announcement will be made today. If we hear nothing, the next test will be whether Adkins is in the Iron dugout tomorrow for the home game against Bristol City.
