teamsaint Posted 10 September, 2010 Share Posted 10 September, 2010 oh, and as for price, for most of my time , and before all seater stadia, the price of standing was usually comparable with a cinema ticket, very roughly. All seater grounds made the game much more expensive, although I guess ticket prices at SMS now are probably roughly comparable with seats at the Dell . Breeny Posted 11 September, 2010 Share Posted 11 September, 2010 A pint in The Louis and a Plested pie before the game. If you were sha**ing one of the Plested pie girls you got them for free! Still used to get them all down Harrington jacket after burning my mouth !

alehouseboys Posted 11 September, 2010 Share Posted 11 September, 2010 Until the mid/late 70s we used to stand under the 'Toomers' but the Milton was slowly changing and not for the better. Many had already migrated over to the lower West next to where the players came out. That was probably the best vocal area (and where John Bailey first got hammered which quickly spread all over every time he turned up..."Bailey come and he wanna go home!"). The last game our little mob stood in the Milton was Sunderland at home in the poring rain (think it may have been on MOTD...a Divison 2 game back then!), when suddenly (and I know some on here will be offended) it all kicked off up the Archers. It was the first time the infamous 'Warrens' made their presence felt up there and we knew that's where we wanted to be from then on. From then onwards it was Archers only, sometimes stood on the wall at the back if we could squeeze in amongst the 'Warrens' lot and join in with their "We are Warrens, we are Warrens, Super Warrens, Poundtree Road......." (to the tune of Millwall's 'No one likes us"). And then later to lower East. 'appy, 'appy days.

ericb Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 I remember it being £1.50 for the old milton road terrace when i first started going with my mates. A big group of us too, probably about 10-15, would decide that morning to go up after playing football at our mates. Run the streets trying to finish his echo round in time to get up to the game (where they'd be giving it away or free outside). Get in, sit down on the terrace and spread your feet out in the vein hope someone tall wouldn't stand in front of you and rip up the paper ready to check in the air for when the players game out. ****ing great laugh terraces and i definitely remember it being a lot louder than it is now, also remember the away players (especially the keeper) getting a lot more abuse than they do now. As others have said it's a much more sanitised game these days, and there seems a less imagination and banter than there was. I don't know how many players there's only been "one" of in recent year but it seems to be one of our only songs now Also there was more reference to news to wind up the away fans, it could just be me but the younger fans seem a lot dumber and less witty than they used to be. chanthaburi Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 Biggest gate I ever went to must have been Mick Channons testimonial with my father 1976, 2 days after FA cup win would say at least 35-k there near the end of match I remember a corner at the milton road end and the fans were all standing around the corner flag spilling onto the pitch. Does anyone remember who Saints played and the score!
