Sorry if posted before but tonight 14 season tickets holders who have been selected at random are having dinner with Nicola Cortese and allowed to ask "on the spot" questions.

Are they any ST holders from here going?

Although to be fair not sure it will go ahead if he is trying to tie down a deal with S****horpe

How do you know? Not doubting your credibility, just curious.

a friend of mine has just posted on facebook that her husband

"***** has gone off for an evening of Q & A with Nicola Cortese and then dinner..It's alright for some eh!"

I asked where and got this reply

" At the stadium, they randomly selected 14 season ticket holders, he has gone with 5 questions and will select 2 when his moment on the hot spot comes. Nice they get dinner out too"

I bet some right pikies turn up.

undoutedly, full of greed, wanting to stuff as much free food and drink down their fat chops as they can, properly taking the p*ss, then crowing about it afterwards.

doesn't matter what they are, we have some right pikeys in our fan base.

Agreed. Mainly those who used to dress up in special clothes and go fighting other football fans.

NC has given up on most of the dross on his list of prospective Managers...

He now feels comfortable choosing his new Manager from within our own fan base...

Mind your Ps and Qs boyzz and girlzz and one of you could become the new boss...Ask for big compensation pay off for your old firm..

AND remeber fellow fans ..each and everyone of you ia a much better Saints prospective Manager than Adkins or Howe...

obviously some right c*nts there too then.

well just got back. people who see NC in a negiative way let me tell you how wrong you are, the guys ambition is faultless with the money to back his ambition.

financial backing.

its still there and nothing has changed as regards to when st marcus passed away and he's got full backing of the liebherr family.

manager.

when asked about AP? he looked down and smiled, looked at me and said lets just say i had no choice, it had to be done.

as regards to the new manager the list is very short and a descition will be made imminantly (dont listen to the media at all) i piped up and said please not phil brown and his reply way not a chance laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

payment plans for STHs.

will be introduced again. once the new swipe card system is installed. as it is to many people brought STs did'nt pay for them and theres no way they can stand on the turnstiles and examine every ST.

Sponsors.

the club are already in negotiations with various companys for next season already.

media.

he hates the media. he said no matter what you say they always turn it around. im not used to media attention and dont like it. someone else said but you need to like them because alot of saints fans dislike you for the mushroom effect you need to get your intention out in the open, he was not suprised at all. and is already in discusions to start a radio solent open saints forum. when asked about the press ban? they are not banned only photographers, journalists are welcome just not photographers (again the media getting crossthreaded).

one of the last face to face chats with marcus.

marcus said i want to get back in the premiership and be about a mid table team. NC said i cant do that i want to win the champions league. apparently marcus's eye widened and he said do what you got to do.

to sum up the evening he is a really ambitious family orientated guy and here for along time as he said this will be my last job. im glad he's at the helm of our club, it could be alot worse.

IN NICOLA WE WILL TRUST.

You forgot this bit which is especially telling

"another thing mentioned was the fitness of the players and he was ******ed at AP after spending all that money on pre-season tour (more than most prem teams) and coming back in the condition they did".

Thanks for posting the link.

Finally almost a week on we see a Wow factor.

Anyone doubting that we all share the same dream is seriously in need of medical attention. We (& I) may not agree with the way he is going about things, but the one thing that came out in that link is that this is not JUST a business. Yeah sure it was a smooze & booze evening but at the end of the day (oops) I actually think he will do it

I think that's fair to say.

This board nearly imploded over the withdrawal of the instalment plan and NC received an enormous amount of abuse from certain posters. He now confirms what many of us had thought must have been the case. They didn't pay!!

PMSL that was a classic thanks for that

Oh nearly forgot

Eid Mubarak everyone

Yeah, I was pretty wowed by that, too. All the more so for the fact that this mentazm1974 dude doesn't seem the kind to fabricate stuff.

Given his understandable contempt for the media, I wish Cortese would feel that he could talk directly to the fan base a little more often.

He comes across well, even if he's delivering unpopular stuff, because his rationales are normally sound. But the silences create suspicion, a perception of arrogance, and the feeling that he feels contempt for the fans as well.

And I mean him talking - not some PR and communications firm.

agree with that Dubai.

It was nice to read, good to see the ambition and plan is still in place. Was nice to see the instalment plan and also the swipe card system is in the pipe line - they were planning on doing that for this year but didn't have enough time to implement it.

I'm surprised the stalpewood development wasn't mentioned though.

As i think we've always known, he has the best interests of the club at heart and always has - but I think it's fair that there will be some decisions he makes that can be disagreed with, it's healthy to have a bit of debate now and then!

No one is perfect at the end of the day!

well.. after reading this report and admitting to myself that maybe ive been harsh in my critisism of Mr Cortese, I actually feel very hopeful! The man obviously is driven by success and failure not an option. I think the wow factor we have been looking for is right under our noses! Methods dont always rub everyone the right way, but if our beloved Saints ever do reach the champions league, it'll be mostly down to Nicola Cortese-in him I trust COYS!!

Posted

Our fans do need to realise that Cortese wouldn't have put in the time and effort in this project that he has done so far, for nothing. Patience is required. He's also not the next Hitler, but I wouldn't start worshipping his feet until he delivers. (Though criticism of him on here has reached heinous levels and he's being judged on some false treacherous sense of character rather than his current actions (or they are being judged but via media spin, which is just as bad))

I saw this thread and thought "oh no, not another Cortese bashing" and almost didn't bother reading it.

If I'm being truthful, the events of this season had started to turn me against him, as the only press that comes out is negative press, however I was heartened to read some of the points raised.

I do believe he needs to smarten up his approach to PR though. He needs to learn it is ok to have an opinion (whether it's for or against) and that it is imperative to keep Southampton in the public eye while we are rebuilding. Once we become successful then I don't think we would give two hoots about what is going on, but for now he needs as many friends as he can get.

A question many people would like answered is why the sacking of Pardew, Downes and Murdoch was not better explained.

It should have been clear whether it was a dismissal or a parting by mutual agreement.

If it was a sacking for performance reasons, which is what the official statment implied, there should have been clarification of why performance was not regarded as good enough and an explanation for the timing. In other words, a statement based on the reasons given to Pardew himself.

If it was not for performance reasons, it should not have been implied that it was, since the fans are entitled to expect honesty from the club, even if there are things that cannot be said.

If it was for misconduct, or for complaints by players, a form of words should have been used to say that the parties had agreed that they could no longer work together.

If it was Pardew objecting to restrictions on the way he could do his job, then mutual agreement or no longer able to work together would have done it.

If an answer to this was provided at the dinner I'm sure it will be given to the press by either the club, or by someone who was there, but if we hear nothing it would seem reasonable to assume that no explanation was given.

As i havnt paid me fiver ( tight bastard ) but i will do soon i mentioned on the manager thread a few days ago about this but nobody seemed interested. My friend who i go to SMS with and sits next to me got an invite and i will get a full breakdown from him soon but having spoke to him briefly last night he said.

The evening was extremely well done and Nicolas commitment to putting this club back in the premiership IMO cannot be faulted. Sure he was never going to get into the real nitty gritty of the whys of everything but for all the doubters i believe this club is in safe hands.

Report from one who was there

Most importantly we know that it will not be Phil Brown.....

Actions speak louder than words nothing there you wouldn't expect him to say, nothing he hasn't said before in the main plus he's hardly going to say anything that makes him look bad. sound positive but lets not all fall at the feet of NC in worship I'll judge him on his actions not his words.

How many times have you seen it reported that a football manager left his club by 'mutual agreement' or 'mutual consent'? I know I've heard this phrase plenty of times, and all it normally means is that both parties have agreed not to say anything about the parting of the ways. If Cortese had stated quite clearly that Pardew had left by mutual agreement, you would be saying pretty much what I've written above and would still be wanting further explanation.

I very much doubt that the full reasons behind Pardew's departure were given at a dinner for some ST holders. That would have been massively unprofessional. Whatever the ins and outs of this, all concerned are keeping very quiet about it, which suggests to me that this suits all parties, and that confidentiality is being maintained. If Pardew feels that he has been treated unfairly, we'll hear his side soon enough - unlike Cortese, he has friends in the press.

Pleased to see some positives stuff emerging about NC.

We need more of these type of events so Nicola can overcome the growing nos of doubters but this is a start in the right direction.

Encouraging

Interesting points made, my thoughts and some conjecture

Perhaps the pre season was what finally did for AP (silly money spent, unconditioned players) and a straw (however) finally broke the camels back last week.

NC dislike of the media comes from his inability to control them and inherrent mistrust. I dont mean control in a proporganda way but delivering the message actually and when he wants. I think this is naivety on his part through not having experienced the english press at work. I hope he realises that the best way to get your message across is to cosy up to them. Just look at saggy. To the press he can do no wrong, but then he always makes time for them. NC could do himself a favour and get some media training.

Having read that I think it's now clearer why Cortese hasn't communicated more overtly to 'the fans' over the last 6 months or so. 'We' appear to have been caught up in his 'obsession' (and I don't mean that in a bad way) to suppress the media intrusion into club affairs. In other words, by blocking out the press he, by default, blocks us out too. He needs to find a middle ground whereby the fans can be given clarity in communication about events without giving too much rope to the media.

These 'invitation only' Q&A also sound like a good idea to me. It shows a willingness to hear the views of a cross section of the 'fan base rather than just those who choose to put themselves in the fan spotlight.

I think Cortese is a subtle shift in public relations management away from being a superb chairman for this club...

Where were you when I was fighting in the name of my club?

I don't know how old you are but in the 80's I followed saints home and away pretty much every game,in those days you had no choice but to fight just to see your team play football.

The police were always waiting to give you a beating for no reason and then you had to face the home fans, all this before you even got to the ground, then there would usually be trouble in the ground followed by a fight to get back to your train.......if you didn't hit first you got hit.

And besides I didn't want to ruin the designer clothes I just nicked.
