It's fair to say that Shroppie has been saying all day that the offer withdrawn thing was bollix and Shroppie continues to believe, it's fair to say, that Mr Adkins would be a fantastic choice for our fantastic club. Think that's fair to say.

Do you need a good sleep now?

What's the point buying star players who respected Alan Pardew only to employ a physio come manager to replace him. This is Luggygate Mark II. Can we never get anything right. At the rate things are going Cortese will have Pardew back and fire all those who escaped the purge first time round. Crazier things have happened and with Saints it will be something that will make us the laughing stock of the country, not to mention the footballing world worldwide.

Art, notwithstanding the results since he left (we weren't getting results before that) I'm far from convinced that the players "respected Alan Pardew".

And I would bet that this "physio come manager" is on an entirely different plane to Pardew - tactically, motivationally, intellectually, conversationally and just about every other way.

So how about giving him a chance to prove it?

Wasn't our playoff season, i think- it was the following season which, after the departures in the summer and GB's increasing disinterest, was a disaster waiting to happen. They played very well at SMS - the return fixture at their place was more scrappy, though they should have won it after, i remember, we were gifted a very fortunate penalty.

yep, scored by saints legend Gregory Vignal

Impressive. Comes across really well.

Thing to bear in mind is that this is quite possibly the toughest press conference he's has to deliver, after in all probablility a very tough couple of days for him. Sounded clam, considered and confident despite this.

Like the way he stressed how important it is for Wilkins to prep the squad for our tough game on Saturday.

He clearly wants the job. Interesting how he kept stating that 'things had been done in the right way'. Bit of a fingers in the air to his Chairman.

Suhari liked this. Suhari thinks Nigel Adkins will sleep on it, resign in the morning, take over mighty Saints and head down to watch us on Saturday.

He likes to refer to himself in the third person! Its fair to say that 1976_Child is actually quite impressed with Nigel Adkins's diplomacy. Its fair to say that 1976_Child needs a pint after a fantastic day and its fair to say that 1976_Child has always dealt honestly with his alcohol cravings and as such it is fair to say that he will not just walk out on his pint but will remain the manager of that pint until such a time as another opportunity to manage another pint arises. Like he says, 1976_Child has been approached by another pint, a fantastic pint with a fantastic glass but one which is not currently being served in the top pub and it would be a fantastic opportunity to manage that pint and help it get back into a better pub. But like he says, 1976_Child is still currently the manager of this pint and he has to get the pint ready for the next swig and that is what he intends to do.

it's fair to say Santo found this to be the highpoint of an already fantastic thread

I believe Bob Paisley started out as a physio ..and without Adkins's qualfications.

He isn't the big name we'd jhoped for and been led to expect but he is at least intelligent (which is more than you can say for many managers) and experienced at an appropriate level.

I reckon he'll do.

Just listened again and I don't think it could be much clearer that he wants to come here. The amount of times he praised us' date=' the club, the stadium, the fans, the history, he sounded like he loves us.[/quote']

Call me cynical but perhaps he's been offered a large % increase in his current pay?

Plus with a decent length contract he could get a lovely lump sum if he doesnt get us promoted and gets sacked...

Lest just all calm down and look at the facts:

1. Does look likely that NA hasd agreed terms with NC - but as is typical of the Swiss, they like to act professionally and do this all behind closed doors until a deal is confirmed - If it does not happen, nothing will be released which is the professional way of doing things.

2. Need to negotiate the compensation - NC wants to play hardball - afterall its all part of the negotitions.

3. Scunny chairman goes to the Torygraph, saying he cant get hold of NC and compensation not agreed - toys are thrown out the pram - SFC stays silent as they should

4. BBC/SSN other media pick up the story and suddenly its ' offer withdrawn' there is no evidence for this , as indeed there is no evidence that terms wer agreed in the first place.

5. Saints fans react to the above calling NC all sorts of names, and siding with Scunny chairman against Cortese

6. Saints issue formal statement say no truth in 'ransom demands' and thats all we will say until a deal is done - like I said professional and teh way of the swiss

7. saints fan continue to rant that Cortese is an arse..

8. Press conference/interview with Adkins suggests still in negotiation - which to me ties in with the Saints statement...

Now look at the above and how stupid does it make 5 and 7 appear?

Thank you for some sanity.

I salute his principle of not considering resignation just to avoid compensation - and he is apparently short of sleep.

However...

...he waffled.

...he repeated himself over and over again.

...he didn't control the interview - eg by refusing to answer again questions which he'd already answered.

Not a good first impression for me.

Boll*cks. Luddy failed not because he was a lower-league manager but because he had an old school management style. He thought it was old-school to take the squad to an army barracks to instill discipline - gimmicks that were like cracking a nut with a sledgehammer. That's what alienated the prima donnas. SOme like WGS could get away with treating players like children to the extent that they were respected as ex-pros who had been there and done it.

NA is totally different from Luddy because though he's not 'name', his approach to dealing with players is modern. While I don't buy into all this sports psychology guff, it probably does make you more diplomatic and sensitive to morale and different personalities around the club. If anything, NA's man-management skills are his strongest asset - something he attributes to his years as a physio.

Im up in Lincolnshire and on the local BBC news Peter Levy (He's our Sally Taylor !!) has just said Nigel Adkins has decided to join us , will keep you up to speed on this or if you have sky look for Look North yorks and lincs .

Remind what Arrigo Sacchi did before getting into football. Top flight experience does not automatically equal success.

Adkins is bright, he's young, he's ambitious and he's prepared to do things NC's way. On that basis I reckon he's worth a punt.

Saint Billy is very very tired now.........................................................................................................it's fair to say.

Anyway, I was against him at first glance, but now I seem to be liking the guy, here's hoping!

Very true...The right size pay check will have most people saying nice things about people they have only just met.

Pardew will never be coming back. Have you not understood what Mr Cortese is about? Adkins will take us up this season and get sacked the following season when we don't get in the top 6 in the Championship.

I've had various emails from mates who support other clubs taking the p**s over this. I don't mind as I enjoy the banter, but they all think its Saints that look utterly stupid so far.

Yeah paying attention to some of the reports and I cringe. But that's where it's going to take time for some to accept that the BS that goes on in the press is nothing more than that.

The press have reported on what others have said about our chairman loads lately but our chairman has kept quiet and only released statements via the club when there has been something to say.

SSN 5 mins ago went on about how the Adkins deal is on, off, on, off and back on again. Fininshing that statement with how the club have said it's back on. I havent seen the club say anything other than negotiations continue. Doesn't say with who so SSN are filling in the blanks rather than using anything official.

I think eventually we will be laughing at the reports rather than the club as NC will just keep doing things behind closed doors till everyone gets used to it. Had it been Lowe in charge he would have spent the day in front of tv camera's telling everyone not allot but winding us right up.

from f365: http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_6366906,00.html

Southampton are in talks with S****horpe over a compensation package for manager Nigel Adkins. The 45-year-old has held initial discussions with Saints about becoming Alan Pardew's successor at St Mary's despite S****horpe chairman Steve Wharton previously claiming the League One club had withdrawn their offer. Southampton have since denied issuing Adkins with an ultimatum to resign from his position in order to take over at St Mary's, but compensation has yet to be agreed. "Southampton have approached our football club in the right manner and the chairman and directors have allowed me the opportunity to speak to Southampton," said Adkins. "There have been further discussions where we have talked about the possibility of becoming the manager of Southampton. On the back of that any negotiations are private and a lot of things are drawn out. "If Nigel Adkins leaves S****horpe United it should be done in the right manner, and it should be done with the clubs agreeing a compensation deal. "The fact of the matter is compensation has not been agreed as it stands. One of the scenarios when clubs can't agree compensation is that the manager has an option to resign - that's against my principles and is not being considered. "Therefore I am still the manager of S****horpe and I took training this morning."
the fact of the matter is Santo wishes this would hurry up and so nigel adkins can focus on the real task of signing skacel

When I first hear of him I wasn't blown away but he's grown on me.

Seems like a decent bloke and has a track record of league 1 promotion.

I just hope we can land him now (as long as he stops talking in the 3rd person).

Having heard him speak and hearing how he does want to join us, but only if it's done in the right way, makes me want him here even more.

He wasn't my first choice, not by any stretch but he sounds like just the kind of man I could respect.

What a load of waffle that was. I don't blame NA though because there's not a lot he can say as he's in limbo atm.

True. The same question answered over and over again - he couldnt say more. Could have been over in 2 mins instead of 15.

SSN just claiming they will reveal who else was interviewed. Since they don't even understand " negotiations continuing" and are reporting that as "deal back on" - was it ever off? - prepare for more bollix. Btw other candidate Howe.

A lot of the posters that have been creating about Pardew being sacked are the same ones being critical of Adkins. Having read nearly all the posts on the subject it is obvious most of them don't have a clue who he is and how he has managed at S****horpe for the last three years. It is also obvious that the people who really know their football unanimously agree on his quality because he has been on their radar for years since they saw S****horpe give us a football lesson three years ago in our play off season.

So if you think Adkins experience with Scunny doesn't really compare with the challenge he faces here with a completely different club with completely different expectations then you don't know football? Bit arrogant isn't it? Isn't it also arrogant to suggest that if you don't think he's the right choice then you've never heard of him? Give some people a bit of credit for being able to form an informed opinion that just happens to disagree with yours.

I love this .........

Cortese does not do speculation ...he could therefore never register on this forum since .....he is apparently unable to spout sh*te all day

He does, however, do deals in that are in the interests of the club...and in his time

No wonder the media vultures hate him...he must be their worst nightmare :D

If you took the time to read some of the posts and the comments that are based on not knowing him, but not wanting him because of that, rather than finding out about him and holding fire until they had.

I am liking the prospect of NA at the helm. He is a clever bloke, proffesional and principled. As others have stated, those saying they are not happy at the thought of him coming in, are the ones who know nothing of him. Much like the lads I work with who's reaction when I said "looks like Adkins has the job", they all scrunched there faces and said "Who? Never heard of him, what a sheeite choice blah blah blah blah blah", but he has a track record of success at this level on no budget whatsoever, with young players and good football. I am looking forward to not hearing about bad pitches, not watching hoofball to lambo and hopefully not having to scream about the lack of a blatantly needed substitution that only arrives when it is too late.

Those that have questioned his press conference... Did you never listen to an interview with AP? I seriously couldn't count on all my fingers, toes or limbs at how many times AP couldn't pronounce the names of his OWN players!!!
