He was very respectful towards our Club. Saying what a big club we are, stepped in tradition, fantastic stadium, fantastic support. Premiership set up, fantastic oppurtunity, exicted about being given the chance to speak to us.

Oh god,so there is still a chance he may join us.

Yes, thankfully.

Listening to him he seems very keen to come and honoured to be linked with us.

Seems a very humble man.

'ONE OF the most incredible day's in the history of S****horpe United appears to be finally drawing to a close after Iron boss Nigel Adkins held a sensational press conference to confirm that he DOES still intend to become the new manager of Southampton.'

Now I'm even more convinced that he's right for us.

So am I. Apart from the "Nigel Adkins does this and that" I was really impressed. I would go as far to say he couldn't have bigged us up more if he was a die hard Dell Season Ticket holder in his youth. He really wants this job, let's just get it sorted and move on.

Lest just all calm down and look at the facts:

1. Does look likely that NA hasd agreed terms with NC - but as is typical of the Swiss, they like to act professionally and do this all behind closed doors until a deal is confirmed - If it does not happen, nothing will be released which is the professional way of doing things.

2. Need to negotiate the compensation - NC wants to play hardball - afterall its all part of the negotitions.

3. Scunny chairman goes to the Torygraph, saying he cant get hold of NC and compensation not agreed - toys are thrown out the pram - SFC stays silent as they should

4. BBC/SSN other media pick up the story and suddenly its ' offer withdrawn' there is no evidence for this , as indeed there is no evidence that terms wer agreed in the first place.

5. Saints fans react to the above calling NC all sorts of names, and siding with Scunny chairman against Cortese

6. Saints issue formal statement say no truth in 'ransom demands' and thats all we will say until a deal is done - like I said professional and teh way of the swiss

7. saints fan continue to rant that Cortese is an arse..

8. Press conference/interview with Adkins suggests still in negotiation - which to me ties in with the Saints statement...

Now look at the above and how stupid does it make 5 and 7 appear?

This has got more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing. Misinformation and idle speculation seems to be order of the day. Hope this quickly draws to a conclusion. Would like the new man in for Saturday.

Then he should've been training in Southampton this morning not Scunny.

If he's that eager,resign.

Your loyalties lie here if you have been offered the job and accepted it.

Well,he got to say his goodbyes in the end did'nt he.

I cannot access Radio Humberside till I get home but from what Im reading on here sounds very good. Certainly a man of integrity ad principles. That in itself is a rare commodity into days society. I felt a bit underwhelmed at him coming but reading our more accomplished posters who post have helped me change my opinion. yes it always good to have a high profile manager but they often fall on their sword for one reason or another

He's "a principled person" - those are his own words.

If you expect principles from our manager, don't begrudge him doing the things he feels he needs to do before coming here.

You've made it clear that you don't want him but for God's sake don't start questioning his loyalty and commitment before he even arrives.

I think it's going to take a while before some people get the message that saints don't do speculation.

I don't think it makes any particular decision or statement any better but understand it's how things should be done.

Kinda takes some of the fun out of the rumour mill though. Most clubs hear rumours and can debate for hours if it's true or not. We know it's all donkey balls until we get told something different on the OS.

He likes to refer to himself in the third person! Its fair to say that 1976_Child is actually quite impressed with Nigel Adkins's diplomacy. Its fair to say that 1976_Child needs a pint after a fantastic day and its fair to say that 1976_Child has always dealt honestly with his alcohol cravings and as such it is fair to say that he will not just walk out on his pint but will remain the manager of that pint until such a time as another opportunity to manage another pint arises. Like he says, 1976_Child has been approached by another pint, a fantastic pint with a fantastic glass but one which is not currently being served in the top pub and it would be a fantastic opportunity to manage that pint and help it get back into a better pub. But like he says, 1976_Child is still currently the manager of this pint and he has to get the pint ready for the next swig and that is what he intends to do.

I've had various emails from mates who support other clubs taking the p**s over this. I don't mind as I enjoy the banter, but they all think its Saints that look utterly stupid so far.

A lot of the posters that have been creating about Pardew being sacked are the same ones being critical of Adkins. Having read nearly all the posts on the subject it is obvious most of them don't have a clue who he is and how he has managed at S****horpe for the last three years. It is also obvious that the people who really know their football unanimously agree on his quality because he has been on their radar for years since they saw S****horpe give us a football lesson three years ago in our play off season.

I don't think it's a problem that he wants the club he has worked at for the past 14 seasons to be adequated compensated.

If it becomes clear in the next day or two that an agreement between the two clubs can't be reached it will be up to him to resign.

Problem is FC you used the word fact in your opening sentence - most then didn't bother to read on.

Fortunately I work for a very large Swiss company so I'm used to things not being announced until the deal is done and the ink is drying.

Wasn't our playoff season, i think- it was the following season which, after the departures in the summer and GB's increasing disinterest, was a disaster waiting to happen. They played very well at SMS - the return fixture at their place was more scrappy, though they should have won it after, i remember, we were gifted a very fortunate penalty.

A pretty good press conference - he said all the things he should say without committing himself to anything before things are agreed. Vey complimentary about us. Very repetitive and avoided any direct answers to straightforward questions.

What's the point buying star players who respected Alan Pardew only to employ a physio come manager to replace him. This is Luggygate Mark II. Can we never get anything right. At the rate things are going Cortese will have Pardew back and fire all those who escaped the purge first time round. Crazier things have happened and with Saints it will be something that will make us the laughing stock of the country, not to mention the footballing world worldwide.

Where did you hear it sir? The links I have tried on here have not worked

God, doesn't time fly, I know it was at least three years ago with Burley, it must have been before he resigned and Pearson picked us up.

It's fair to say that Shroppie has been saying all day that the offer withdrawn thing was bollix and Shroppie continues to believe, it's fair to say, that Mr Adkins would be a fantastic choice for our fantastic club. Think that's fair to say.
