Toomer Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Milton.Under the Toomers chocolate box before terracing took over.... always was the best ! Trying to remember the name of the copper ( officer ) who looked like Hitler and used to watch down on us from above selecting who was to be chucked out ! It might have been Bob Gough
KK the 2nd Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Started off on box at front of West Stand with my dad. Then Choco box and finally graduated to Milton. Knees up Mother Brown, lines of coppers separating fans,surges-those were the days Similar ... Under West Stand with my Dad as a young lad then Archers then graduated to the Milton from around 15 y.o to 20. Needed to be fit young and strong on the Milton then to cope with the Knees up, surges etc. Went back to the Archers after and finally back to Under West Stand. Hardly ever used the East in 35 years at the Dell ... not really sure why? Now a Kingsland old codger.
mynameisthehulk Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Late 80's until 95 - Milton road at the back 'were the right side'. 'Timmy Timmy show us your bum'. Mid 90's - 00 - Archers Road front row behind the goal This ^
sussexsaint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Milton here , Grandad had a ST in West so sometimes went with him
Petersfield Saint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Archers. Generally front row as we didn't have season tickets then so used to go down the ticket office on the morning tickets went on sale to get our favourite spot. Loved it in there, easily the best times I've had supporting Saints. Original and funny songs, plus some top banter with the away fans. Makes all the difference when you're looking right at them from 20 yards away. This
St Landrew Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Started off in the Archers, just to the right of the goal. Always remember shouting some encouraging words at Gerry Gurr when he took a goal kick. He stopped his run-up and looked around, almost accusingly. I didn't know where to put myself. After a couple of seasons, I felt brave enough to go to the Milton end, and to the left of the goal, this time. John McGrath coming out well after every other player, with his shorts pulled up high, and scuffing his toes as he trotted, is my abiding memory there. Occasionally, an adult relative would come to football with me, and we'd end up in a stand, but mainly, it was the ends for me.
Mao Cap Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 West Stand for the first couple of seasons as a kid (first ever game was the last with terracing, one of my abiding regrets is never being in a standing area at the Dell) then Archers Road - Block 2, then 4, then 5. Had some of the happiest memories of my childhood/early adolescence there. Dry in the Bikeshed, it's nice and dry in the Bikeshed
Colinjb Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 My first ever game was the upper tier of the West Stand, restricted view seat in a 1-1 draw with Leeds United back in the summer of 1995. Only really started going a lot at SMS though.
redkeith Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Under the West Stand since promotion, but moved to the East under Nicholl when we got fed up of the constant wingin at PAul Rideout . People would complain that he wasn't as skillful as Le Tissier, and not as fast as Rod Wallace. I felt like telling them that a player as good in the air as Rideout, with the pace of RW and the skill of MLT would be worth 10 times wmore than Van Basten. Wonder what they made of Paul Moody ?
Minsk Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 All of them. Probably about 50% in the Archers though.
100%Red&White Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 1972-1974: Milton Chocci Boxes 1974-1978: Milton (under the Toomers) 1978-1990ish: The Archers 1990ish-199something: Under East Stand Terrace (Archers end) 199something-2001: Archers Season Ticket Holder With occasional sorties into the West Stand - I think I may have been thrown out of all of them at some point!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Milton (65 - 74). From about 73 onward until the doors opened then round to the Archers. Until we found it less hassle to just go straight in the Archers ( 74 - 76). East Stand / Archers Corner onwards. It might have been Bob Gough Goughie was an Archers copper. He used to stand in among us Eastleigh Boys a fair bit. He was always after Lipsy (Melv Hubbocks, Brighton A, ******** ****). I still see Bob out and about in Eastleigh, all those years of Rugby have made their mark and he walks rather lamely nowadays. I'd still not like him to collar me though!
Deppo Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 If you sat in the East Stand, you had a better chance of catching one of Franny's efforts.
Scottydog67 Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Chocolate box (Milton Road) from 1975 to 1980 Family Centre (Milton Road) 1980 to 1983 West Stand lower (Archers End) to 2001
The9 Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Being a non-resident, I took tickets wherever I could get. Mostly Milton from 91-93, with a few away end excursions just to get in when the Archers was still 3 standing pens and a lot of fencing. Then when the Bike Shed was built I usually went in there, My last Dell match was probably 2000/1 v Leicester, a 0-0 midweek game. I saw quite a few from the lower east bench seats around 1992, but that last match was the only time I went in the West stand.
ericofarabia Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Similar to many other long term / not quite so young now followers .... 67 - 72ish with dad/ grandad/ uncle / aunty Milton road bottom right hand corner near to a flood light pylon stood on my wooden stool and getting to the ground at 1230 for the big matches to be able to get a spot at the front. 72 - 77ish old enough to go with mates in The Milton under the Toomers choccy and be in the knees up muvver bown surges and right next to any away mobs that tried to take The Milton, until the big boys came along and moved them away from behind the goal. The amazing thing about those days was that there was no segregation and a line of coppers stood between the two rival groups knowing all hell would let loose at some stage. I didn't bother joining the migration to The Archers when away supporters were only allowed down that end, I'm wasn't a hoolie just a spectator!! Over the next few years the corner of the West near the away fans in The Cage and then the corner of East and Archers till seating ruined the whole thing and then moved to halfway line East stand. Since the late 80's have only managed a few games per season in various places and then of course onto SMS.
krissyboy31 Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Moved around a bit. Started in the boys chocky box, then the Milton terraces. When they introduced terrace ST's, moved into the Lower West Stand (Milton End). Then when they put in the bench seats in there, moved to the Archers end of Lower West Stand. Then when bench seats were put in there, moved back to the Milton (redeveloped upper tier terrace). Finally, when the ground went all seater, moved back to the Lower West (Archers), where I remained until we dismantled the seats against Brighton (still got mine in the shed).
70's Mike Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Funny how lots of us moved around in those days suppose it was easy because not all ticket, getting a group of mates together these days requires massive logistically and financial planning. wonder what the support will be like in 20 years when all us old tmers are no more
saints triumph Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Bow legged chicken anyone. Never met you but must of been very near numerous times. Remember the millwall guy?
WGC Saint Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Milton back in the 80's when I was a nipper. Always wanted to go to the Archers end but too young to get involved in the many rucks I saw there! Great days though. How we could do with a team and management like that now.......
alehouseboys Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Bow legged chicken anyone. Never met you but must of been very near numerous times. Remember the millwall guy? Deaf and Dumb Tony with the Millwall butcher's coat. Speaking of Millwall, we played them (back in the 70s) on a night game when the fog descended and just got thicker and thicker. Can't remember now but it must have been abandoned, we could barely see the Milton goal from under the 'Toomers' let alone the other end! I'm sure the OB got a little nervous suddenly losing sight of 'Harry the Dog' and his surgical masked mob.
Wes Tender Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Lower west stand, slightly towards the archers end, row 2, almost on the pitch. I loved my season ticket spot very much. Ditto. About 10 feet from the dugout.
david in sweden Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 ..from early days (pre seats) ... but standing behind a bar just under the West Stand , near to the trainers boxes. Provided you weren't stuck next to a girder... you could see both goalmouths ..and not get soaked whenever it rained!. ..best part was the people around me. Good fans with good humour every one and hardly a moaner in sight.
Redbul Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Always used to be a Milton boy until about 83-84 and then I sat in the upper east stand, Archers end with an old girlfriend. When we finished I went back to the Milton.
