Milton / Archers / East / West ?

I was Milton Road ender,

best goals were scored at that end .. (probably).

I was in the West stand in the family enclosure most of the time on account of me only being a nipper but always wanted to sit in Archers. Did a few times but never got a season ticket there. :(

Lower East as a kid until 96-97, then Archers Road end Block 5 until the move to st marys. Atmosphere and originality of songs in the Archers much much better than what we have now

Lower East, at the Milton Road end (in the Young Saints bit). Still miss that seat, great spot.

Oh, and the best goals were definitely all scored down the Milton End...

Milton centre near the front.

Was a nipper in those days so went down to the tunnel before every game to get autographs.

All teams signed except for Manure.

Archers on my dad's shoulders and then the funny ledge which had wooden barriers at junction of East Stand and lower end of Milton. a lot on Archers as a kid. Milton as teenager and eventually under West Stand towards Milton. Occasionally had use of STs in both ES and WS

My location tells the story where I started back in the day could not not beat a good old Knees up Muver Brown under the Toomers. Moved to the Archers for a couple of seasons then under the West, Archers end with a lot of the old lads. There a still good number of us 50 plus years of age still going.

Archers. Generally front row as we didn't have season tickets then so used to go down the ticket office on the morning tickets went on sale to get our favourite spot.

Loved it in there, easily the best times I've had supporting Saints. Original and funny songs, plus some top banter with the away fans. Makes all the difference when you're looking right at them from 20 yards away.

Started off going with my dad and standing in the corner of the Milton / east stand, right down tnear the corner flag. We went there as that is where my dad used to stand with his dad.

got a bit older (14/15 ish) and started venturing to the back of the Milton.

Then, about early 20's, started going in the Archers.

Started off in the Family Centre standing on my stool so I could see.

Then started standing in the Milton End and then progressed to the Lower East Stand while there was still terracing.

Got my first season ticket in the Archers Road stand and stayed there until the Dell closed.

First season ticket at St Mary's was in the Chapel Stand but emigrated over to the Northam.

Got fed up there so moved to the Itchen Corner block 1. Now have ST in Block 5.

East Stand on my dad's lap. Dad knew the turnstile bloke and used to lift me over. When I got too big we had to buy a ticket.

Then Milton Road then a season ticket in the Lower East near the half-way line till we moved to SMS.

Started in the Family Centre, going with my mates Dad. Dad had bought season tickets for them & my mate stopped going after about 3 matches, I don't think Dad could get in without a kid, so I was surrogate.

When I became a big boy & went with my own mates, our spot was just to the left (as you look at the pitch) of the Milton goal, right in front of the crush barrier. Caused a few surges, but never became the victim of one. :toppa:. Had a bloke behind us with the most annoying voice, who always had a "dew drop" dangling from his nose. Hadn't seen him for about 20 years, until a couple of years ago at St Marys when I heard that familiar voice again, long before I saw him.

Archers Rd. While it's true to say that most of the great goals were scored down the Milton end, I remember Eyal Berkovic scoring a screamer of a volley at the Archers end - against United I think??

One of the strangest things about the Dell was how much it changed over the years, if you watch the highlights videos from 1980 - 2001 , especially the Archers Road end where they kept messing around with the pens and the fences changing the shape, it actually seems to get smaller,

also forgot the random lower west / east silver benches with the other half as a terrace

The programme shop on Milton Road was good.

Getting chips at Teds Fish bar on Bedford Place before night games then walking down Milton Road seeing the floodlights appear.

Having a pint outside the Fitzhugh

Definitely best times following saints for me stood in the Archers Road late 90s - 2001

home performances on the 1989/90 season love watching the CBS FOX goals of the season video of that one

Archers 61 to65

Milton 66 to 73

Under West Stand 74 to 79

Under East Stand 80 to 94

Archers 95 to 97

Milton 98 until SMS

Moved with the flow except last move to Milton which was for health reasons

First game was '84 in the archers, moved from there to under the roof at the milton (though always ended up further forward for some reason!) then back to the archers in the bike shed days.

Saying that i sat/stood in pretty much every part of the ground with the exception of the weird little corner next to the away fans and under the old (never working) milk scoreboard.

Would be interesting to see where people had moved to now, i went archers to northam and first few seasons saw a lot of the old faces there now. Seems that there aren't as many of us there anymore, maybe a move to the itchen north from the older guard?

A combination of chocolate boxes and the Family Centre in the Milton until 1980

Under West Stand bench seats until the last games at the Dell

Various places in St Mary's, ending up with season tickets in the Family Centre as the next generation starts watching Saints :-)

First game was lower West stand. Watched games as a boy from the Milton Road end, with the occasional visit to the Archers Road end. Then moved to East stand for about 10 years until the closure of the Dell. Glad I went to all four sides before it closed!

Posted

Late 80's until 95 - Milton road at the back 'were the right side'. 'Timmy Timmy show us your bum'.

Mid 90's - 00 - Archers Road front row behind the goal

Posted

Milton for 17 years.

Including a few games in the dangerously steep rain-lashed upper tier of the late 80's.

Directly behind the goal about 2/3rds up when seated.

Milton.Under the Toomers chocolate box before terracing took over.... always

was the best !

Trying to remember the name of the copper ( officer ) who looked like Hitler and used to watch down

on us from above selecting who was to be chucked out !

Nobody's mentioned the corner between the West Stand/Archers Road end, under the old scoreboard.

Trying to think when that fantastic corner of terracing disappeared to be replaced by that bloody police control box.

I started directly opposite that (Milton/East stand corner), then graduated to the Milton in the skinhead heyday, when we used to be divided from Arsenal/Chelsea/West Ham/Spurs/Man U/Liverpool and even Stoke one time by only a thin blue line of the filth. Then in the mid 70s it was over to under the West Stand. When I moved most of my old lot ended up at the back of the Archers in the 90s.

Started off on box at front of West Stand with my dad. Then Choco box and finally graduated to Milton. Knees up Mother Brown, lines of coppers separating fans,surges-those were the days
