Wouldn't it make sense if we employed an unemployed manager?

Whatever the reasons are for the adkins deal falling through I think the right decision has been made....why go for a manager that is already employed and comes with a compensation package when you could employ one of the 90 or so managers that are out of work and spend the money that has been put aside for compensation on a decent player?

Just a thought!

It sounds as though we have explored all avenues. Also any out of work candidates will load their salaries accordingly I would assume.

I wonder also if any of those in the frame are still being paid by the clubs they last managed or even have been compensated with a proviso that it be repaid pro-rata should they find a new employer, wasn't that the case at Leeds, amongst others.

Given the objectives set by the club - Prem football in 5 years - I would be employing the person best qualified to succeed in the job by achieving that task, regardless of any other attributes. An incidental to this would be some consistency and stability which history tells us is a pre-requisite to continued improvement and success. Simple eh?! If this cost even substantially more money (e.g. to get MoN) then I would say spend it, as the primary objective shoud always take precedence.

False economy = ?

Taking the cheap option (failing to improve the squad after Cardiff) and ending up losing WGS, which started the downward spiral. (Do you remember when the general view on here was that all we needed was a left-sided midfielder?)

We then compounded this by hiring cheapo managers/signing cheapo players that kept the spiral going ever-faster until we plummeted into the third tier.

Looking only at unemployed managers - rather than trying to hire the best we can attract - would be another false economy.

Not really true is it. We spent a fortune for the CCC when Burley was here...not a cheap manager himself, albeit a ****e one. We should have been spending little then, making good cheap signings and loans, not throwing money at everything, and THAT, is was accelerated us towards administration, player sales and league 1.

Adkins isn't the cheap option, he's just a damn good option.

True - I should have excluded that Burley phase from the comment, but it took us to the playoffs and the brink of a return to the Premiership. Most of the rest of the way (starting with the killer period, post Cardiff, and continuing post-Burley) it was cheap option all the way; that, more than Burley's profligacy, is what started the spiral and kept it going after Burley left.

But I agree with you regarding Adkins. I've felt since Monday that he was perfect for us and, having just listened to his press conference, I'm even more convinced.
