Pat from Poole Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 have you even stopped to think, that, a better candidate may have come out of the woodwork,at the last minute. This was my first thought.
yorkiesaint Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Hang on, I don't think resigning means paying no compensation. Is this arguement simply about the order of events, not whether they occur: resign and then agree compensation, or agree compensation and then resign? I can't believe its unusual for a manager to resign before compensation has been agreed.
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 S****HORPE United manager Nigel Adkins has NOT yet signed for Southampton. And the likelihood seems now that he will not be going to St Mary’s. First thing today the club put out a statement saying Adkins and his right hand man Andy Crosby had agreed terms to join Southampton after talks yesterday. It was subject to the two clubs agreeing a compensation package. But Iron chairman Steve Wharton exclusively told the Telegraph that the deal had not gone through. “The situation is that Nigel and was given an ultimatum last night by Southampton to resign and accept their offer, said Wharton. “But Nigel was not prepared to do that. He wanted to walk out of Glanford Park with his head held high and everything agreed. “I have tried to contact the Southampton chairman today but have not been able to get hold of him. “I was not prepared to roll over and let Nigel leave for nothing. “I wanted some compensation for what I felt he was worth. It was only a modest amount. “From a selfish point of view I will be happy if Nigel stays with us. “But I also feel very sorry for Nigel if this was a move that he had set his heart on. “The Southampton people have been very difficult to deal with. “They are probably not the right sort of people for Nigel to be working with. “But at the moment I am not exactly sure what the situation is until I have talked further to Nigel.” Phew! That was a close shave
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Your comment might have been a bit premature Duncan in view of the statement released on the Official Site. Too much media reporting with a slant. Me premature? Bloody hell, Ron only this morning you started a thread that our new manager was Adkins!!!! I am sorry, at present I am more inclined to take the S****horpe chairman's comments on face value. His reasons for spin are less obvious than ours. If you think our statement is satisfactory and everything is OK then you are - no offence - naivier that I had you down for, Ron. Perhaps you should re-read the "Pardew is staying" press release of last May and then compare that up against what you know happened just a few months later.

If he had said nothing people would assume truth in the press speculation,so he attempts to quel this by releasing a statement. And so,a few months down the line Pardew is axed for whatever reason, that does not indicate Cortese was telling untruths in his original statement. How many chairman release a statement showing they back the manager only for circumstances to change later down the line. Unless you can see into the future you are on a lose lose situation.

FF but in May Rooney was happily married England were in with a chance of the world cup etc etc. We dont know what happened, and i suspect your sources are not as clued up as they were with this new regime. It saddens me that a fan as commited as you have been so easily turns on the one it loves

Gingeletiss Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Duncan is an angry man, he backed the wrong horse, and it fell at the last. He has run down the ML/NC partnership, from the very first day, so why the surprise, that he hasn't got a good thing to say about NC now.
sperm_john Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 im glad adkins hasnt signed, i dont want him, lets sign someone better

Weston Saint Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Duncan is still a good friend and the snide comments from many are unfair and uncalled for. Duncan has good sources. He is often right. He wants what we all want, a club to be proud of. A succesful club with integrity. Many stories have eminated which put the club in a bad light. Some of it may well be true. Until I see definative evidence from an independent source I am going to support the Club Chairman and Owners but with an open mind if that is not a contradiction in terms.
Verbal Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 You seem very bitter. argumentum ad hominem. Look it up.

Accept your point about my original post this morning but I have posted comments since. I do not like Scunny Chairman conducting business in the media. It suggests he is spinning. I will stck with our clubs statement until I see something to change my view. I accept that in a perfect world the S****horpe chap should not conduct his business in the media, but he has a club to run and his own fans to placate. He also seems frustrated at being unable to contact NC. I think Ron that I am finally "falling out of love with a) the game - little decency left and b) my club - don't feel the pride I used to. Something has died, not saying that has been directly caused by NC - because he is perfectly entitled to do what he wishes and he did save the club. Liebherr's buying us out was almost too good to be true because in one fell swoop it removed all the baggage of the last 10 years, but even the week it happened I realised we were now very much at the behest of one man. I have no agenda these days, smply because I know we have to lump it or leave it or at least until the Liebherr family decide to sell. But one thing I find it hard to accept is being fed claptrap. I know some of this forum will accept everything this club does and says without question. I suppose the club are lucky to have such loyal fans bu that is not for me. While I will always follow Saints whatever league we are in, I will not "buy" what I consider to be spin. Why oh why - did Guy Askham turn us into a PLC - we might not have survived in the top flight or even the Championship as we were but for me that surely was "the day the music died". Perhaps that will explain to Buccotim why I have found it hard to be positive about the way the club has been run.

I accept you have a genuine affection for what the game used to be, and the way our and most other clubs were run. I think many would share preference for 'the old days'. The reality is though that this club and practically all others have changed, driven in part by the televison rights money. Even fans owned clubs arent run differently - you simply end up with an elected Chairman who gets elected on the basis of promising more than the other guy - however much borrowed money it takes. The ownership structure of the makers of your favourite car, beer, jeans, film arent similalrly called into question. IMO campaigning for a change to the way football in general is run is a valid and worthwhile occupation. Sniping at Saints because you bemoan the passing of the old days is not imo.

That's a fair post Buccotim. But in mitigation I thought a forum was where you sort of let off a bit of steam or had a bit of a whinge when things weren't going too well? I accept I am quick to snipe however, I guess I am going to have to get used to the fact things aren't ever going back to the days of "Goal" magazine and Sam Leitch on a Saturday's "Football Focus" on BBC1. Growing up in the halcyon 60s with Ron as my idol and the same manager for 18 years it is little wonder in weaker moments I yearn for my youth.

I think yearning for the old days and the clandestine affair with Kate Bush I could have had if only we'd met is just one of the penalties of getting older. Yes this is the right place for letting off steam. If this forum had windows they'd be too misted to see out. I find deliberately developing blinkers helps, I choose to focus on the bits I like, it makes things more enjoyable that way!

thorpie the sinner Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 What I would love is for NC to pull a rabbit out of the hat a la O'Neil, explain it clearly to the fans, and then start building bridges! We are not a bad lot and I for one have never been or had cause to be arrogant! I have built up some very good cyber friendships on here and I know these friends aren't arrogant either. The fact we are perceived to be so through the actions of the club is upsetting! Most Saints fans I know are and have to be very grounded!!! I trust the decisions made at mo, I just hope we can move forward from here and concentrate on trying to get promoted!

Indeed perhaps we should treat life the same - just focus on the bits we like, trouble is I would be down the pub 24/7. Talking of Kate Bush, I was reading Mark Radcliffe's (DJ Radio 2) biography the other day and he was saying she was one of the nicest, down-to-earth people he had ever met so perhaps you had better not stop dreaming.
dubai_phil Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Lol at this, the poor old fogey thread.... Saints fans hit Last of the Summer Wine realisation moment Guys. I know it isn't a total cure for it, but I have to say, throwing it all away, and upgrading to a younger model GF instead of the nagging old woman sure as heck takes your mind of moaning (outside the bedroom) for a few years But yes, Football has to change. Unfortunately I think I am more likely to be watching Bolton V Man City up the road in Abu Dhabi in two years on a Saturday than I am seeing it change the right way

Piran Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 I've just spoke to Matt Le Tissier and he says he'll do it if no one else will
