Clubs always get some compensation for their managers, football is very different as we all know, hence we don't get thousands a week for doing **** all then transferred for millions of pounds.

Scunny deserve compensation if they lose him because a club thinks he's good enough to pay more.

Fair point, ultimately it comes down to how his contract is constructed and what it says about compensation, in which case it should be pretty cut and dried.

If he was approached by Saints, then its reasonable for the club to pay compensation. If he applied for the job then surely it is his responsibility to fullfill the penalty clauses (which of course he would negotiate for Saints to pay) once again it should be clear from the contract.

A very good friend with strong links to the club has told me that Nigel will NOT accept the job. I don't know why, I didn't ask as it's not my business but I thought you guys would like to know. I'm pretty sure this is accurate

Links to which club?

Not THE Tony Lynam of Pinnacle fame surely?

You know, sometimes you can get to really really hate people.

In the midst of all of this I get a txt from a mate who has sod all to do with Saints who says...

lol at you lot, MON turns Saints down because of the structure and then you even manage to feck up your SECOND choice.

How the hell a rangers fan in Aberdeen would know that I have no idea, but that sort of crap really hurts right now

Nick Holmes it is then

Because the Internet and media is full of rumour. The truth is not known. When you have no genuine interest in the subject most people will just believe what is said because it's far easier than thinking it through or waiting for official statements!!

SSN talking to a scunny journo..."good news for scunny that Adkins staying, spoken to chairman..scunny wanted a certain amout of compensation,Adkins would not resign, being a man of principle,"

Really am doubting about our funds now.

He is only on a 12 month rolling contract, so the compensation would not of been much.

So who in your opinion will be offered the job now?

Posted

So we're sacking managers even before they're our managers!

Surely we'd have already negotiated at least a ballpark settlement before offering a contract?

I can imagine NC going to the mazaratti garage in Lyndhurst, getting in, feeling the leather, test driving, and then, just before shaking hands to seal the deal saying:

"how much?!? F**k off I'm not paying that!"

I'm chuckling outside but crying inside.

Yeah but you know what NC's like. The money is probably there but he just wants to come out on top to massage his ego.

Saints withdrew the offer because MoN decided that he would like the job after all, so NC phoned Adkins and told him to **** off. No sooner had he put the phone down it rang again. It was Kevin Keegan. He said that he had Alan Shearer with him and they also wanted to accept the job. Text messages from Zola and Phil Brown also arrived accepting the post. Poor old Cortese's head was in such a spin the he did the only thing that he could do and offered all of them the job. We'll be the first English club with a 6 tier management system, which has proved so succesful in Italy and Azerbaijan. Oh, I forgot to mention that Steve Coppell is the new DoF.

You may think this is BS, but let's be honest, anything could happen at Saints. We're the laughing stock of the league. It's like a bloody soap opera.

I'm off :(

The length of contract is just a bargaining chip, S****horpe can set whatever figure they choose. £1billion, £2billion whatever.

you would have thought that before being allowed to speak to the manager clubs would agree in principle the amount required.

Even if NA came now the relationship is already tarnished. Both clubs are a bit clucked up by this

Hi Ken. Sure do. And am fascinated by what's going on at the Club. It is no secret that I wasd might annoyed that the people who employed my company and other consultants never produced the goods, but I still follow what's going on down the road. It's also no secret that a few of my friends have been at the club in a variety of capacities, players, coaches etc so you shouldn't be too surprised that I still want the Club to do well, and I for one think the appointment of the right manager will define your season. I'm still at a loss to know what on earth led to Alan getting the boot but hey, that's football, and I guess that's why we all love it. If my friend is correct, it means one of 2 things. Mr Cortese has stuck to his guns and has good reason for not offering more compensation that he believed payable, or, as has been said by numerous people, he is a particlularly difficult chap to deal with. Time will tell, but either way, I really really do wish that the right man for the job gets the key to the dressing room. Regards. Tony

That must be the reason then.

They were asking for billions of pounds.

As has been posted on another thread - the compo could be sorted out by a tribunal. This is an almighty mess and Cortese has to come up with something to stop himself looking even more of an idiot.

This is like f*cking Groundhog Day.

This club ia an absolute embarrasment, really thought NA was a good appointment, so what now we start again I think a few managers who've applied may be having second thoughts as well, plus Wilkins in charge for sat and another defeat

Posted it simply because it was a concept that was out there.

Didn't speculate on the accuracy or otherwise, simply reported it.

My sources tell me...

Nothing.

They speculate (as I do) that NC now looks to be in an incredibly difficult hole. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that his office has a dent in the wall. I'd be furious, he's probably Volcanic. NOW what can he do. Anyone else he talks to now will be second choice and through No fault of his own - HE didn't leak that NA had been offered the job, HE didn't leak that NA turned it down or Scunny put a spanner in the works

and yet ANYONE else coming in has already been undermined.

TBH I think it is a fecking disaster and If Scunny have shafted us would make them public enemies #2 after the Skates in my eyes

Exactly. It is their chairman who has twisted this to his own gain. Possibly in an attempt to scupper the deal beacuse they actually want to keep him!

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

New rules for being a Saints fan:

1. Take anything you see read or hear in the media at face value, no questions asked. Even more so if the report admits it has no concrete facts, and is more conjecture than anything, and names and insults Nicola Cortese.

2. Make sure to second guess the actions of said chairman and point out exactly what you would have done in his situation, ignoring the fact that you do not know the context in which decisions were made, but have heard some 'reliable rumours' from your mate bazza. Also be wilfully ignorant of the rule of Law, and demand full details, then moan that you are being treated 'like mushrooms' when you don't get it. Also, come up with witty nicknames like 'Clotese', or 'Don Corleone'.

If this is just a glimpse of what happens at sms behind closed doors then i'm amazed Pardew hung around long enough to get sacked. Lucky escape for Adkins and what a shambles our club is!

It couldn't though. Adkins refused to resign until Scunny's compensation was agreed. For all we know Scunny were holding out for a stupid amount of money and Cortese refused to match it as he didn't think it worth the money.

why is no-one willing to accept the idea that perhaps scunnthorpe asked for a ridiculous amount of compensation?

ok shall say this again, if compensation cannot be agreed it should goto a tribunal

Because if they were being unreasonable then Adkins would have resigned.

Why? It's exactly the same as if we were trying to sign a player from them. If our offer does not meet the valuation the club put on him (which will include their own costs it will take to replace him) then they are fully within their rights not to accept. And as Adkins apparently said he wouldn't resign until compensation was agreed, we either agree pay their amount or walk away.

Poster on Sunny site makes the distinction that whilst the offer has been withdrawn Adkins hasnt withdrawn his application. Could all be part of an elaborate dance to resolve compo issue without resort to tribunal?

Posted

Say it again if you like, but it can only go to tribunal if Adkins resigns. He refused to resign until compensation was agreed. So, with no compensation agreement and no resignation, there's nothing to go to tribunal for.
