oh yes it is!

Im not dissappointed by his appointment however I feel their were much better options out there than him. This appointment wont be called manager. I think it will be something like Head of First Team Operations or something. Basically meaning Cortese and Reed will buy players for him and he just has to coach them. He will also be their 'yes' man. The appointment wont exactly excite the players to perform either.

Completely agree Saint 76er. If you had asked me yesterday, i would of been disspointed but lets put in persepctive, this bloke is obviously an intelligent, educated man and done very well with a tiny team.

A very good post and i for one am feeling much more confident we are making the right choice

Let's put this into perspective.

A year ago, when the takeover had just been completed, we'd have been delighted if we'd appointed Nigel Adkins, having just led Scunny to their second promotion out of this division in three years. The season we were alongside them in the Championship (07/08 ), they were unlucky to only take one point from the two games against us, and they played decent passing football.

It's only because we made such a high-profile appointment in Alan Pardew, and that Pardew proved to be popular with the fans before his sacking for reasons that will probably remain unknown, that many are feeling underwhelmed at this appointment.

Attracting a manager in a secure job at a club in the division above us can only be seen as a positive, IMO.

Personally, I'd have preferred to have kept Pardew, but that's not been possible for whatever reason. Adkins is as good a replacement as any, he's just not attracted anywhere near as much media attention because of the low profile of the club he joins us from.

 Spot on

Still hoping if anyone would qualify the "cheap option" comments

I would imagine he wouldn't cost as much to employ as someone, say, who has managed in the bottom 2 divisions PLUS the Premier League for nearly 10 years, has won the League Cup a couple of times, developed a lot of top-level talent and recently led a side into Europe.

Or Keegan or Shearer, who are both used to big wages, or Phil Brown, who has recent Prem experience.

You also have to factor in that Adkins has only ever managed at one club, so he's never had the pay hike that someone going to a succession of other clubs would have got every time - until now.

So he probably is good value.

It was made up on here and now people are gutted it wasn't true. Crazy isn't it. We've made a good appointment. As good as MON, no, but was he a viable option? Most likely not a chance in hell.

It was NOT MADE UP ON HERE. Let's get that straight.

It was MADE UP on Radio Solent after the Rochdale game. I heard it in the car on the Millbrook Flyover. They said that the SOURCE was "Their colleagues at 5Live"

We get blamed for a lot of things but SOLENT are to blame for artifically raising the expectations of Saints Fans.

THEY should apologise

according to radio solent there could be a hitch as adkins back on humberside. Cortese wants adkins to resign first to save compo and adkins doesn't want to. also adkins wanted to say goodbye to scunny players and cortese wanted him to take training today at saints.

will cortese be happy with this .......

Ahh, a blossoming and fruitful relationship begins. This bodes well for the future.

There's a problem over compensation. All is on hold. NC wanted Adkins to resign (presumably affects compensation payable) from S****horpe and take training today. It appears he hasn't done either and has gone back to Lincolnshire. Described as a hitch on radio.

Well sounds like NA isnt quite the nodding dog that some on here are suggesting.

Hopefully the final parts of the deal will be completed soon. Elliott Ward from Coventry was a 'done deal' until someone blabbed in the media too early!

Not yet nailed on, we all know how Cortese seems to work on announcements!

As many have said, if it is to be NA then whatever the initial reaction is - we must support him and his team WHATEVER decisions they make.

Reminds me of when everyone was saying Nigel Pearson who? After a short stint with us he was practicaly a hero. Some saints fans just love to knock everything before a balls been kicked. I'm reasonably happy with this, proven track record at this level.

Lets face it, if MON took over he'd be off in a flash if a prem club came in for him after 6 months!

A good up and coming manager taking over a quality squad that just needs some back up for injuries etc. Has managed and succeeded at this level. All the makings of a good replacement. Now it looks like we can stop the guessing games and give him a chance. Lets stop the whinging, get behind NA and the team starting with Saturday at Swinedon.

Excellent appointment IMO (assuming clubs can agree compensation) - very, very happy.

Never warmed to Pardew - I found him a little egotistical and self serving - and once the relationship with NC/other members of staff became "strained" there was only one inevitable outcome. I really don't care why he eventually got the "boot" - more important things in life to worry about personally.

Adkins on the other hand seems like a decent man with the requisite intelligence to realise NC's visions. 100% behind this appointment.

Onwards and upwards!

I can't say I'm overwhelmed by this but it is a sensible, clever appointment on behalf of NC. Sacking AP for NA I'm not sure is a great move but as has been said a few times if he gains us promotion all will be forgotten! We could have done better with the appointment but (and that is a massive but) we could of done ALOT worse. Paul Hart is just 1 name that springs to mind on how much worse we could've done.

MoN would have been a fantastic appointment but it seems the powers that be have decided his ego is far to much for this club plus a friend told me the other day that his hissy fits when things don't go his way are worse than Anne Robinson's stare in The Weakest Link. I for 1 wouldn't have liked that as we all know it would've been a ticking time bomb with how NC seems to be running the club.

Overall good appointment IMO and pleased with it

Where did this wow factor thing come from???

I think the info the BBC let out on 5live saying a Saints Source said the deal will be done this week and it will be one that proves to the fans that NC knows what he is doing was turned into the "wow factor"

Obviously not the same but does this deal show that NC knows what he is doing or does it leave many more questions?

S****HORPE United manager Nigel Adkins has NOT yet signed for Southampton.

And the likelihood seems now that he will not be going to St Mary’s.

First thing today the club put out a statement saying Adkins and his right hand man Andy Crosby had agreed terms to join Southampton after talks yesterday.

It was subject to the two clubs agreeing a compensation package.

But Iron chairman Steve Wharton exclusively told the Telegraph that the deal had not gone through.

“The situation is that Nigel and was given an ultimatum last night by Southampton to resign and accept their offer, said Wharton.

“But Nigel was not prepared to do that. He wanted to walk out of Glanford Park with his head held high and everything agreed.

“I have tried to contact the Southampton chairman today but have not been able to get hold of him.

“I was not prepared to roll over and let Nigel leave for nothing.

“I wanted some compensation for what I felt he was worth. It was only a modest amount.

“From a selfish point of view I will be happy if Nigel stays with us.

“But I also feel very sorry for Nigel if this was a move that he had set his heart on.

“The Southampton people have been very difficult to deal with.

“They are probably not the right sort of people for Nigel to be working with.

“But at the moment I am not exactly sure what the situation is until I have talked further to Nigel.”

I don't particularly like the appointment, not that I have anything against Adkins, just that I thought there was better out there. That said, I didn't like Pardew and the type of football we often resorted to, so I'm sure Adkins will be an improvement on him.

To be honest I'm glad it appears to be over. Good luck Nigel, you'll get plenty of support from me.

What makes me feel positive about the appointment is the unanimous reaction of the s****horpe supporters. How often do managers leave with such strong support from the fans. Lets be patient, give the guy a chance, we just might have made a very good appointment.

I recall Plymouth fans being similarly as keen on Sturrock.

What a royal f*ck-up, just when I thought it was over.

F*ck me, I think we may be more hated than Leeds thanks to Mr Cortese.

We have some really clueless fans if some of the responses on this thread are anything to go by. In NA we have a manager that is hungry for success. Give the guy a chance - he seems sound as a pound from the clips i've seen of him.

I doubt anyone wont give him a chance but I can understand peoples feelings on feeling a little let down.

I hope he will do fantastically and take us all the way to the champions league in years to come. But I was also hoping the new manager would be someone I would expect to take us that far rather than hope.

He may do it and he may now. My expectation levels are not as high as they once were but would love it if I am proved wrong.

This is on the Scunny fans 'Footie-Mad' site apparently from the Telegraph, I did have a look but couldn't see it.
