revolution saint Posted 11 September, 2010 Share Posted 11 September, 2010 NC obviously takes note though . The statement in the week about the ST installment plan and the Statement today about Les Reed's role. Now surely, you don't think that was ONLY aimed at the few fans listening to the pre-match build up on Solent? We are NOT the font of (any) knowledge, we do not influence matters a great deal, however anyone considering taking a job at a senior level in any company will either ask his secretary/agent or fingers to do some googling. This forum took it as read that NC withdrew the ST plan to annoy fans. That opinion was held by many fans who have never heard of a forum, we were wrong What's happened about the ST plan then? the idea that it could be re-introduced when we got swipe cards? Why not say that at the time? it's hardly confidential stuff is it and would have saved a fair bit of bad press. i hope NC does pay attention to this forum. I could then tell him that in the absence of a decent explanantion of why AP and his staff were sacked it's my opinion that he's ****ed up the start of the season and left with potential replacements that on paper could only hope to be as good as AP. Adkins also said there is a major discrepancy between the compensation demanded and the compensation offered. If Adkins feels like he's being held hostage by the Scunny chairman because of his loyalty to the club, I think he might walk out on them and explain it by saying he gave the Scunny chairman all the opportunity to find a reasonable solution, but that he couldn't allow his loyalty to be abused. There were many that actually thought M.O.N. was a real possability. Very arrogant. Some of the abuse and unfounded negative comments about Cortese is bordering on pathetic and actually quite offensive. I know the point of a forum is to comment but too many of the comments are simply ridiculous. Dont get me wrong, we have enough to be concerned about but is it not possible to get some perspective. I bet if we won the next three games the same people will be saying we will win the league by a mile. I for one think we will be in the top 6 by the end of the season and Cortese will be better equipped next season, because i am sure he will have learned a lot of lessons over the past few months. Our squad has not become as poor as our results have shown and although i do not think we will immediately start winning every game it is not all doom and gloom. We do have one of the best squads in the division, fact and maybe time will prove me wrong, but i do have faith in Cortese to get it right in the long run. It's quite simple really, we interviewed a number of people. Each time we interviewed one, their wife, agent, cousin, lover, chairman decided that they were obviously getting the job and went off to get their names in the press. Most of those comments were shown to be not quite exactly word for word how events had unfolded, but that did not stop the opening of old closets and garages and dusting off the pitchforks and torches that last saw the light of day with Rupes. Either that or we just watched the single most incompetent recruitment process in the history of football. Basically, nobody believes a word our club has said in the past 12 days or so. Radio Solent Not "A source close to the club" but specifically from Cortese who found the Solent reporter and spoke to him. Was made about 5 or 10 mins before kick off" NC spoke to Adam Templeton before the game at Swindon and made it very clear with the words Les Reed Has Never Is Never nor will be involved in First Team decisions, he is emplyed to run Staplewood and the football development. It was quoted as a direct quote. I can only assume that the issue has caused annoyance at the club and has been made public. May well be added to any up coming statement as it is clearly an issue causing some harm (probably to the process of finding a new manager IMHO)

Bearsy Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 I suspect NC underestimated the negative effect Pardew's sacking would have on team results. If he had known surely he would have been more pragmatic. Regardless of what Pardew's misconduct may have been the important thing once the season has started is to get results, and it surely would have been more sensible to leave him in place for the short term. If this was a TV movie the VoiceOver would be suggesting Nicola's decision making has been affected by grief, but I don't think real life is like that. Channon's Sideburns Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 TBF to Cortese Merrington was ranting about Les Reed's role BEFORE Cortese found Adam Blackmore. There's possibly your reason. Also, another reason why Cortese doesn't like the 'old guard' - too quick to spout off with no thought of the consequences. I love Dave Merrington, but he needs to back up his words with evidence - how's Asturius Dave? Or did MLT preach it as gospel?

Weston Saint Posted 12 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 12 September, 2010 This is getting a bit stupid now. Adkins has made it clear he wants his position resolved this weekend. He hints as best he can that he wants to come here. "It's a fantastic opportunity and opportunities only come around so many times in your life. "I'd like to think I've stuck by my principles. But there is still an opportunity for Nigel Adkins to become Southampton's manager." The situation seems to be compensation. We have made an offer which has been rejected, as has their counter offer. Cortese has bought this to a head by allegedly turning to Eddie Howe and offering him the job. Unfortunately/Fortunately (take your pick) he declined. Cortese must be strong. IF Adkins wants the job so bad he needs to review his principles. He says he will not let his former employers be out of pocket but if they cannot agree compensation then resign and let a tribunal set the compensation. That is what it is for, to make sure all is fair. Cortese may see all this as a lack of hunger and commitment for the job. These are important attributes. Hopefully it will be resolved today. If not Cortese must move on and make an an offer to others he may have on his radar. The first team is rudderless, in need of total overall of tactics, ideas and to some extent personnel. The loan window opens soon. Negotiations will be underway now. We need a first team Manager to make those picks.

Stu Man Do Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 I agree but don't know exactly how these contracts work. If Atkins resigns and no compensation is agreed, could Scu nthorpe hold him to a notice period or place him on gardening leave until a notice period has been served? Certainly happens in other walks of life! Last year Lambert left Colchester for Norwich after resigning. If memory serves the compo was only sorted in the summer by tribunal so doesnt seem to have affected his ability to start work as soon as he had resigned. As others have said clearly we need some direction at the moment and need the new bloke in ASAP else next weeks result is already a foregone conclusion! :-(
Fowllyd Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 I agree but don't know exactly how these contracts work. If Atkins resigns and no compensation is agreed, could Scu nthorpe hold him to a notice period or place him on gardening leave until a notice period has been served? Certainly happens in other walks of life! If memory serves, this is exactly what happened when Alan Pardew left Reading to join West Ham - he had to wait for a month or more before he was able to start work at Upton Park. Such things depend on the terms of the individual's contract, so with no knowledge of Adkins' contract at Scunny we can only speculate. Still, at least we'll be playing to our strengths! SaintRichmond Posted 12 September, 2010 Share Posted 12 September, 2010 If Adkins is still sticking to his "Principals", then, though I admire that quality, I'm afraid he is only deluding himself Football does not have any principals in this day and age The only thing his "Principlals" stance has done, is give his Chairman (Wharton) mor amunition in terms of the asking price The best thing Adkins could do is WISE UP to the real world
