If he comes here' date=' he's got a real battle on his hands to get the fans onside because of a perceived lack of urgency in taking up the reins. [/quote']

It is not Nigel Adkins fault the clubs haven't agreed compensation.

I bet this situation is keeping the FM guys on their toes before the 2011 one is released ;)

I was hoping we'd get a new manager before this weekend to give the players a kick up the arse and a breath of fresh air. The longer we remain without a manager the more points we'll drop.

Wharton wants £3m, source Blake Lapthorn.

Really? If Adkins wants the job, and this figure is stopping him getting it, he'd probably have a good case to argue that his S****horpe contract is unreasonable and a restraint of trade.

Feck...if that's true, i think a few on here would possibly change their opinion on our stance, and NC. That is absolutely crazy if it's true.

Adkins is now in an impossible position IMO. If he stays at Scunny' date=' there's always going to be the suspicion now that his hearts not really in it and he's only biding his time until the next opportunity arises. If he comes here, he's got a real battle on his hands to get the fans onside because of a perceived lack of urgency in taking up the reins. Whatever he does, he's going to need to keep the results coming to keep the fans happy. Damned if he does; damned if he doesn't springs to mind.[/quote']

think you have that wrong - think fans believe he has spoken positively about us, showed class in not resigning and negotiations ongoing - its only his big mouthed chairman stirring. Think most fans hoping it gets sorted out and looking forward to seeing what he can do

Just goes to show Saints dont have the money to pay S****horpe the compensation nor do we have the ability to attract talent. Its as though we have the pre takeover `lable` and problems right back with us. If Saints asked manager to leave without the compo sorted then its a disgrace to fotball. Butyou have to askyourself why the number 1 choice turned us down for Bournemouth......thats now the big question...not who is the next manager as there done for I suspect

Mate, you're just being ridiculous.

1. You don't know that Howe was offered the job

2. Basic common sense, let alone business sense, tells you that you don't pay stupidly over the odds for anything (as it sounds like is the case)

3. Saints have played this straight down the line - Adkins said so

4. If Saints asked him to leave without compensation sorted

How about waiting for some facts because, as far as I can see, only point 3 is a fact that neither Scunny or Saints have argued with.

£3m!! if in anyway that is true that is madness.Forget it Cortese.

The farce continues.

Nah, Adkins will either walk or run down his contract if he feels Scunny are being unreasonable. Any loyalty will go west.

Isn't the enforceable compensation limited to the balance-of-contract remuneration?

Yes I think so, but essentially Wharton is saying "give me £3m or I'll make Adkins work out his twelve months notice" knowing (or gambling) that he will keep to his promise to not resign. Id just say bugger that and go.

Can anyone confirm that one reason things have not progressed in last 2 days is that Cortese has been in Switzerland?

Answer to your question - no he was not in Switzerland, he was having dinner with 14 season ticket holders. See below ...

Cortese Questions

Sorry if posted before but tonight 14 season tickets holders who have been selected at random are having dinner with Nicola Cortese and allowed to ask "on the spot" questions.

Are they any ST holders from here going?

but he has now told fans that he would rather be here, that saints are dealing with this better than his chairman and that his chairman is a liar!

Lets not get too hung upon the idea of £3m compensation as the only grounding for that figure so far is from the following post:

Wharton wants £3m, source Blake Lapthorn.

which if I might say, with all due respect to Toomer is from a fairly tenuous source:

But surely that would render Adkins open to a lawsuit for compensation. Surely he would need a formal agreement from Cortese to reimburse him before walking away from Scunny, wouldn't he?

As jam reminded us earlier in this thread, Portvliet was on the hook for former club compensation when he came here - and paid it without any help from our then-skint club, I think.

Hows this as a slant on things same source, it may well be the case that Pardew walked after being suspended subject to disciplinary proceedings for gross missconduct and when he decided to walk he was told to take his two drinking buddies with him.

Sure Adkins would need agreement from Cortese to pick up the tab, but I guess it would be more like £150,000. Better to pay £150,000 and get him now rather than pay £3m or wait 12 months!

Scunny fans believe Adkins is only on a six month rolling contract

I agree, but without knowing what his contract says we don't know it really is £150,000, do we? Where did that figure come from?

I mean, it could be three years at £400,000 or more per year, and then we're into a very different ball game.

I would'nt be surprised if NC soon looses his marbles with all this bol*cks and pulls out of negotiations with scunny once and for all and moves his attentions elsewhere.

This is wasting valuable time!

A number of people on the Scunny site were commenting on Pardew getting £500,000pa and how that would more than triple Adkins wage. Also the Times said the average players wage at Scunny was £3,000pa. All speculation, but seems a reasonable guesstimate.

I'm sure he already is, taking in the Howe fiasco, trouble is bad enough being no 2 but no 3!

He's off on Monday, both teams thought to do it so close to tomorrow's games was unfair. Compensation has been agreed following referral to the FA.

Interesting comment after one of the most recent Adkins articles on the This Is Scvnthorpe website. How would referring the matter to the FA resolve the compo issue so quickly? It took the tribunal most of the season to sort out Colchester's compo from Norwich for Paul Lambert!

Have we signed that lad they call Rudi Skacel yet? bet he signs his contract on the pitch before the game tomorow! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz This is getting boring now, hope he signs soon!

That would put them on roughly £58 a week.

Paris Smith (previously Paris Smith & Randall, prior to that Paris Smith Randall & Hopkirk ;)) are Saints' solicitors. It's possible that they use other solicitors here and there, but for something of this nature I'd expect it to be Paris Smith. And, as you suggest, lawyers aren't in the habit of compromising client confidentiality.

Why has clotese not resigned yet after his humilation be eddie howe yesterday ?

You do realise what a complete prat you have made of yourself don't you?

It's very possible that both Wharton and Adkins realise that no real offer will be made and in order to save face are now commenting publically. In other words, maybe Wharton got upset when Adkins went for an interview, then came back and discussed it with Wharton and told him how much he would actually like to go to Saints BUT no offer was actually made. Wharton upset bt this then spun a story to the press that in fact Adkins was the wanted man but compo had not been agreed. A tactic designed to either drive up any compo (should any offer of employment come Adkins way) or to make it very hard fir Cortese to make an offer, if indeed he decided too.

Meanwhile Adkins is keen on the job and when the press interview him about it he shows his hand too much and in the process blows any faint hope he had of getting the job and also makes it difficult for himself at Scunny because now the Chairman and the fans realise that he would prefer to be at Saints.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, Cortese has been watching all this unfold and if infact he never did make an official offer to Adkins certainly won't do now even if he had thought his mind.

What's more, if his fellow chairman in scunny is publically saying a decision needs to be made this can actually mean that Cortese needs to make a decision on whether he want Adkins, rather than the (gossip column) take on matters that compo needs to be agreed.

I know there are those on here who think Adkins will be good for us, Derry for one, who's footballing knowledge I respect, and whose posts have opened my eyes a little to the prospect of Adkins, however, there is a part of me that would love to see someone else, just to prove that everything that gas gone on over the last two days is more or less fiction!!!

I am an optimist but I still have a sneaky suspicion that we will get a good surprise when the new man is appointed!!!
