KEVIN KEEGAN NEW SAINTS MANAGER?

Great work from Cortese over the last few days, he has successfully created a smoke screen over Atkins to buy time to make the real appointment.

It is being reported in Guernsey that:

- Meola turned us down as we could not agree personal terms.

- MoN was interviewed and notified yesterday he had been unsuccessful.

- Keegan is still in Southampton thrashing out a deal. He will not be in charge tomorrow but will be at the game allegedly in the away end.

I am expecting a 2345 announcement, The Messiah is hot favourite with the bookies over here.

It's hard to trick people if they're much more intelligent than you, isn't it? Poor boy, it's nice that you tried though. Here, come sit next to me, I'll try and cheer you up a bit. You're a big boy, aren't you? Do you like girls? Yeah I like girls too. It's fun though isn't it when us boys get to hang out together? Here, touch my leg. Do you feel that? It's nice isn't it? Let's see yours. Oh poor boy, never mind. You're still young, there's plenty of time.

Just Found this on 606 for those that are intersted ...from a fans meeting yesterday with NC...........

well just got back. people who see NC in a negiative way let me tell you how wrong you are, the guys ambition is faultless with the money to back his ambition.

financial backing.

its still there and nothing has changed as regards to when st marcus passed away and he's got full backing of the liebherr family.

manager.

when asked about AP? he looked down and smiled, looked at me and said lets just say i had no choice, it had to be done.

as regards to the new manager the list is very short and a descition will be made imminantly (dont listen to the media at all) i piped up and said please not phil brown and his reply way not a chance XD XD XD

payment plans for STHs.

will be introduced again. once the new swipe card system is installed. as it is to many people brought STs did'nt pay for them and theres no way they can stand on the turnstiles and examine every ST.

Sponsors.

the club are already in negotiations with various companys for next season already.

media.

he hates the media. he said no matter what you say they always turn it around. im not used to media attention and dont like it. someone else said but you need to like them because alot of saints fans dislike you for the mushroom effect you need to get your intention out in the open, he was not suprised at all. and is already in discusions to start a radio solent open saints forum. when asked about the press ban? they are not banned only photographers, journalists are welcome just not photographers (again the media getting crossthreaded).

one of the last face to face chats with marcus.

marcus said i want to get back in the premiership and be about a mid table team. NC said i cant do that i want to win the champions league. apparently marcus's eye widened and he said do what you got to do.

to sum up the evening he is a really ambitious family orientated guy and here for along time as he said this will be my last job. im glad he's at the helm of our club, it could be alot worse.

IN NICOLA WE WILL TRUST.

sorry if its a bit bitty information overload

Surely we can't really be stalling over as little as £50k? There must be more to it than that.

Let's face it if we playing against a team this wekend who'd just got a new manager we'd expect the worst. "Opposition's new managers always galvanise even previously duff teams into playing out of their skins to impress new man" is one of the immutable laws of being a Saints fan.

IF it works for us too, wouldn't it be worth £50k to 'buy' a win at Swindon?

Whatever the actual compensation gap between the Clubs is, it's probably a trivial amount when you think about the sums we cough up in transfer fees, agent fees and wages for players who turn out to be unmitigated sh*t.

We'll happily pay that to one player who won't contribute anything in his entire career at the Club, and yet we'll haggle like a gypsy over a lesser amount for a guy who's supposed to make us much better virtually overnight.

Get on with it, already Nicola.

FFS, Pardews sacking WAS planned, but with Liebherrs death it was made easier for Cortese to do it. All Cortese needed was to create an argument (in this case playing time for Guly at BR) and he could realise his plan.

Yes, that makes perfect sense, as does Cortese NOT having anyone lined up when he executed his PLANNED Sacking

REgardless of what you think of him, Cortese is NOT that daft

You must have missed the bit about Pardew & Co's departure being due to Non Related Football matters

There's a difference between:

"Planned to do it at some stage (e.g. at Christmas if things weren't going well) but more recent events brought it to a head much quicker than Cortese had envisaged"

and

"Planned to do it on the exact date that he did regardless of events"

I'd rather venture it was the former than the latter.

Toshack just been picked up in taxi from Soton station heading to SMS!!!! Hmmmmmmmm......Victor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think he is currently in Costa Coffee at Southampton Airport, they are doing a lot of trade from ex football managers. I hope they have a Costa card like me so they can all build up their points!!

Thanks for that Paris. That about sums up my feelings on the matter. Some on here need to wind their necks in a bit about NC. He is human after all.

the quote is "To err is human, to forgive divine." Maybe the press photography situation will go away as suggested.

Totally agree. Remember it wasn't just Pardew who was sacked but most of his team as well. I suspect he did have a replacement in mind but like everything else since the sackings it has gone tits up and a major embarrassment

I think possibly Adkins has been a bit naive taking up the position of not leaving, on principle, unless the clubs agree compensation. S****horpe are desperate for him to stay and can therefore hold out for an unreasonable amount of compensation. In turn it means that they will retain their manager until they are ready to sack him. It's a very honourable position for Adkins, but he has made himself a hostage in the process.

Indeed, but it's sad that honour always seems to have a cost - at least in today's world.

I admire him for being willing to pay that cost, and I hope we soon become the beneficiaries of his principled approach.

I just wish we could get the deal done and get him in, because I feel he's right for us.

Dean Wilkins is really in an impossible position tomorrow - the players may well have tuned him out before they even tuned him in! And that could well be another six-pointer.

The last manager that we got from another club was a bit naive for quitting his job before the clubs agreed compensation as he ended up having to settle it himself.

Hi Bert/Bill.

There is another scenario that could yet take over. Adkins has called this a life changing opportunity. It's easy to demonstrate a principled position provided all parties are behaving in a reasonable manner. If the compensation asked is inflated it will very quickly change Adkins perception. I would expect him until 5pm tomorrow to be relaxed about it but then I can see the position changing. If the sum is reasonable it will be SFC he will probably ditch as not worth the bother , however if the figure is inflated I would expect him to issue his own ultimatum to his chairman along the lines of 'sort this out, it's not SFC, you are costing me this move and I'm not going to let that happen, so either agree a realistic figure or I'll resign and you can let the tribunal stipulate the compensation, either way I'm going to Southampton'

Said on Radio Humberside at 5.25 that no deal on compensation yet as Wharton can't get hold of NC who's on his way back from Switzerland. Over there to discuss the compensation payable with the Liebherr family perhaps or even obtain their authority to pay it? Wharton's aiming to speak to him as soon as he's back in the UK

He could have done that over the phone I reckon. That said, maybe went to see Switzerland v England and saw the Liebherrs while he was there...? Who knows

Dave, I suspect that you're dead right about this - and about Adkins' post-game attitude tomorrow.

I just hope it's not us being unreasonable because I can see this guy fitting in very well with our squad, our structure and our five year plan. He might be the only one of the (supposedly) fifty who fits us that well.

The "life changing opportunity" may not just be one way.

Bill, I've lost count of the times I've been challenged to name who I would prefer when I've criticised Pardew. I've always named Nigel Adkins, he has been my preferred option for the last three years, followed by Sean O'Driscoll, joined in the last year by Lee Clark and Eddie Howe. I don't subscribe to the list of merry go round managers that pop up all the time. He is a proper footballing manager not a pragmatic, safety first type that wouldn't know how or have the balls to play proper football.

This doesn't make sense to me. Surely it's the buying Club that should be trying to get hold of the selling club. I would have though Wharton would be trying to aviod Nicola's calls to keep hold of his Manager, not the other way round. Makes me start to believe it's not going to happen.

The longer this drags on the less likely it is to happen IMO.

Just goes to show Saints dont have the money to pay S****horpe the compensation nor do we have the ability to attract talent. Its as though we have the pre takeover `lable` and problems right back with us. If Saints asked manager to leave without the compo sorted then its a disgrace to fotball. Butyou have to askyourself why the number 1 choice turned us down for Bournemouth......thats now the big question...not who is the next manager as there done for I suspect

Yes, that IS the case, and always WAS the case

The players have always been aware that Dean was not going to be the next Manager

IMHO, it would have been equally wrong to install Adkins to be in charge v Swindon, for LOADS of reasons

Whatever the result tomorrow, we move on from THAT, hopefully with Adkins installed to start on Monday, by being introduced to the Saints Squad

Maybe, or maybe we just have a budget on these things and Cortese just wants a fair price; he doesn't want to be short changed just because we have money.

Somewhere someone is telling the truth, think we are all get too sceptical. I believe Pardew did go for unrelated football reasons, NC has in fact gone up in my estimation over the last 2 days, could of done without the Howe shinnanigans though

Adkins is now in an impossible position IMO. If he stays at Scunny, there's always going to be the suspicion now that his hearts not really in it and he's only biding his time until the next opportunity arises. If he comes here, he's got a real battle on his hands to get the fans onside because of a perceived lack of urgency in taking up the reins. Whatever he does, he's going to need to keep the results coming to keep the fans happy. Damned if he does; damned if he doesn't springs to mind.
