NC is obviously man enough to admit when he's wrong. No one is infallible and only the stupid pretend they are.

it makes me laugh all the snobs who sneer at the Sun Mail etc

The Sun is entertainment - and their subs ARE the best too. It's not as thrown together as people think.

The Mail, however, is a piece of s h i t e

OH FFS

I have a direct line to the Sun. (The editor is a former colleague and old mate).

I have kept shtum. I have to. It wouldn't be fair. However, this has gone far enough.

The truth is that the Sun paid a significant sum to reveal the identity of the South Coast Club, shortly before the South Coast Club was due to reveal it had been Southampton all along.... ;)

It basically comes down to good taste and decency.

Sorry Saintjay

Like TDD said, NC mentioned at the dinner party that Photographers are banned and said that the press have got there knickers in a twist about it.

So if they are still banned (there is nothing anywhere to say otherwise) and The Sun is now calling us by our name rather than South Coast Team it would suggest that the meeting NC had with The Sun made The Sun change there opinion of the whole idea. It was enough for them to call us Southampton without a mention of the ban being lifted.

Yes, but the press are reporting,he has lifted it.

Where?

EDIT:

Just seen that link.

Seems a bit strange that the main papers make a big deal of the ban but say nothing about the ban being lifted.

Im sure NC has said that the press are welcome but photgraphers are not. Admitidly its from a guy who went to a dinner rather than from the horses mouth but seems strange anyway.

No offence mate, but look at the evidence.

- Sun made it quite clear they would not report on Southampton until the ban of press photographers was lifted.

- Cortese visits the Sun Sports editor at News International offices, confirmed by a friend of mine and a poster on here who works for the organistation

- Ban is then lifted.

- Perhaps Cortese's visit was to ensure that the Sun didn't gloat over this and got back to business as usual

Maybe it's not lifted but NC has given the sun "mates rates" for pics... Plus the promise of the I'd bit of secret info about us and our rivals now and then

Tit for tat and all that

Do the Sun really give a f*ck about us? It's our loss if they dont cover us not theirs, I actually thought the South Coast Team thing was funny.

If the sun never cared about us (or the principle if what we are doing) then they would never have called us South Coast Team in the first placep

Probably more the principle, i's not like we are headline news everyday of the week is it.

We operate in an area with about 500,000 people, 1% of the English population. So yes we would be of interest to the Sun.

None taken and its obviously NC's meeting at The Sun that has resulted in The Sun reporting us as Southampton again. Im not arguing that at all.

The only place that states the ban has been lifted is that web page (which is the 1st time I have seen that site before so no idea on how credible it is) The only other evidence is that The Sun are now calling us Southampton. That could be due to any number of agreements made between NC and The Sun while he was there. The meeting must have gone well resulting in either a truce or NC backing down or the sun backing down.

We wont really know until the club say something different or there are press photographers in SMS tomorrow.

Will wait and see I guess?

Think the Sun just saw a story that was mildly interesting and had some fun with it. Think it got more people talking about us so in some sense gave us more press than it would of by calling us Southampton. I found it fun too.

Just done a search on Google for Saints Photographer ban and can only find the odd independant reporter saying the ban is to be lifted. All the other reports are from papers before reporting on when the ban happened.

Looks like the club will probably get more press if they keep the ban in place as if it has been lifted like that page says, the press prob wont report on our games at all. lol

Cortese disagrees with you.

You can be as sceptical as you like but Cortese was at News International for 3 hours on Tuesday. I'm happy to state my source if it means you finally see sense on this. A very good friend of mine that I've known for 15 years has a column in the Sports section of the Sun and is a full time staffer. He was in the Office when Cortese visited his Boss, Mike Dunn (Sun Sports Editor), he was in the NI Offices for a long time as his own request trying to get the Sun to change it's stance on "South Coast Club", "Clotese" etc. Part of this was to give The Sun the heads up that Adkins was our first choice and to remove the photograper ban from St Marys.

Today The Sun referred to us as "Southampton" again, demonstrating the positive results of the meeting. Oh, and that certainly wasn't a mistake - The Sun's Sub Editors are the best in the industry and wouldn't have let something like that "slip" through by mistake.

To be fair Cortese wouldn't have bothered with any other paper in the World, but you need to get past this blind hatred you have for the Sun and realise it's huge influence on a number of matters - one of which is sport.

I'm not a reader of the Sun so it's quite possible I missed it, but are you seriously saying that the Sun wins a victory over Cortese in that he travels to London, is paraded past 100+ journalists in the newsroom and nothing, not one word, about this meeting appears in the Sun or any other media outlet? I simply don't believe this would happen.

If, and it's a big if, Cortese felt the need to get the Sun back onside there are a number of ways he could approach this.

1) He could go through intermerdiaries.

2) He could make a phone call.

3) He could meet the sports editor in a neutral, anonymous venue like a hotel.

4) He could go all the way to Wapping and have a private meeting.

5) Or he could go to Wapping and have a tour of the newsroom, in the full knowledge that his "grovelling" would become public, and then spend three hours there during a week when he's trying to appoint a new manager.

In my opinion, the likelihood of each of those scenarios diminishes the further you go down the list.

To be fair, the sources stating NC was meeting with those at The Sun seem pretty credible. I would be surprised if it was BS.

Someone said south today are reporting the ban is over too. Funny that the press are reporting things before the club now.

As most people / organisations often find out it's better to have the media / press on your side rather than against it. Maybe NC underestimated the power of the press in this country and has ultimately decided to mend some bridges and let the status quo revert to normal.

Ok.. Who reckons the ban was there to protect the leibherrs??????

Ie no pictures of Markus looking sick etc

Probably will never know

and this is the other theory which has IMO gained more and more credibility

The ban started around the same time as the game which ML was due to attend but couldn't due to illness, and appeared to end not long after ML's funeral

I don't know if the sources are credible or not. I just find it hard to believe that Cortese could spare the time or, more tellingly, that he could be taken on a tour of a room containing 100+ tabloid journalists and the only place to find a report on this humiliation is this forum.

Does this mean I can stop boycotting the Sun ?

My missus wants me to buy it when I go up the shop in a bit and I'm not going to stand there scanning it to see if we're still 'South Coast Team'.

Anyone bought it today ?

No, you should keep boycotting the Sun.

I can confirm we are no longer 'South Coast Team' (they even refer to us as 'Saints' ) , my missus is now happy and it appears Wayne has been cheating on Coleen with some whooers ....

It happened mate I've asked someone who works there and he confirmed it too.

Fair play to Cortese I say.
