Echo says Adkins on brink of Saints job 2.30pm

MON isn't and never was coming here. If you get that in your head and then assess Adkins' credentials against say Brown or Andy Scott you might realise that he's not a bad appointment.

I fear for Adkins with so many Saints fans having this sort of opinion. The guy will be starting on the back foot already. He might be better off waiting a week or so until we have hit rock bottom, then a few more fans might appreciate his appointment.

He'd be a decent appointment, not quite what was touted at the weekend but all the same has achieved 2 promotions in three seasons from this league with a side no where near as good and a much smaller club. The problem is the majority of our fan base are seriously deluded. It seems that the only one the majority would accept it O'Neill, one of Britains best managers, one or two aren't even overly keen on him. Any other L1 club would love to have a manager like Adkins CV, compare his record to that of Paul Lamberts, who in some peoples eyes is some sort of managerial god.

Best you give up dreaming about a big name tho' as it isn't going to happen

Adkins is a yes man

That's why we have him

nothing to do with 2 promotions in 3 years out of this very league..?

Backing a seemingly winning horse to fit your anti-Cortese agenda. Chump.

The Paul Lambert thing is a bit unfair. Yes, Lambert was largely unproven as a manager, but as a player he played at the very highest level. Adkins has the stigma of only being a physio before his current managerial position and is also largely unknown as a player.

Adkins is a good appointment for this level of football. However, there are a lot of unanswered questions about how he will fare higher up, and with bigger name players. And given Cortese's statement about "managerial stability" it raises questions about Adkins' suitability here in the Championship and/or the Premier League, if we get that far.

Still think Adkins is a smokescreen. Cortese just doesn't let this stuff get into the press.

Don't get me wrong, Adkins would be good but I'd be even happier if NC announces Brown or MoN as our new managers and that'd really stick two fingers up to the Echo with their 'Our sources tell us' (i.e. SWF). Sorry but I'll never let 'the doddering old fool' statement from the Echo drop and I hope NC doesn't let it drop either and hope he's leaking what he wants to be leaked to those muppets.

He wanted Martin O'Neil no doubt.

I personally wanted José Mourinho but hey, such is life.

No Saints fan could honestly admit that if they were Martin O'Neil they would accept the Saints job.

But it'll be a challenge...but we're a really big club...but you'll have a transfer budget higher than the other league 1 clubs.

MON: All the same, thanks and everything but I think I'll hold out for one of the top European jobs for which I'll be in demand

Sorry, didn't know you were ITK - who is it then?

it certainly wont be MoN...please get real..one of the best managers in the UK...would not even need to send in a CV for the man u job..the chelsea job..the spurs job should they become available tomorrow....they would ASK him to come in..

and you seriously think..for one nano second that he would come to division 3...?

ffs, he left villa because their (loaded) owner would not splash the cash to get villa from 6th or so in the premier league....to 4th....

come on

The more I think about it the more I tend to agree with you.

As proven by the amount of names mentioned on here indicates that people are clutching at straws because there is not any real info being leaked, and there are too many contradictions ie: Adkins was coming down for interview today, and then, Adkins is still in scunny etc etc.

All confusing but I think this story has not ended yet.

good point, but Brown came straight out with it to the press ythat he had been interviewed so Cortese doesn't seem to be able to gag everyone. Who would be the step up from Adkins but also a realistic option ie not MON.

Lambert was a decent player at top level, but didn't exactly set the world of fire at Wycombe, Livingston and Colchester as a manager. Point i was making though it that Lambert is reveared on here by some, yet Adkins arguably has a better record.

Who knows what drives these high flyers? Why should we rule him out? Perhaps he's sitting there in his mansion thinking 'What can I do now? I've done sooo much in my career what could I do next'. Saints job comes along, great club, great infrastructure, great fans, great potential ......

Oh no, it's not going to happen because TDD thinks it'll be below you. Move on then.

which is exaclty why he wont get the job. We know NC's view on the media and he wont want a manager that blabs to the press.

He'll get my full support. OK, he's not the glamourous name some hoped but he's definitely a sensible choice. I just hope people don't start sharpening their knives the minute his appointment's announced.

I think the reason some (me) will have our doubts is because Pardew has more to offer, he's got the promotions, cup finals and premiership experience so without a full explanation from Cortese I cannot see how this is moving us forward!!!!

Interviewed is one thing, but reports on Adkins today suggest it's all over bar the spanking

If adkins becomes our Manager I will be amazed if we get promoted..i predict a long season ahead. This appointment does nothing for me, nor the players I would imagine.

why wouldnt it.....most of these players have worked for people that are less than no one..and succeeded..

ffs, we really have a deluded set of fans around...MoN...players wont like adkins..

ffs, most of our players have been playing in league fuking 1 for most of their careers..not at man u or liverpool

Exactly, look at our managers in the PL and CCC, yet in L1 we think we are going to get one of the best in Britain!

Oh god - here-in starts the 'my mate who works in the mortgage insurance business has just endorsed a policy for NA on his new house in Southampton which was going to be Fonte's house but that didn't happen for some reason... ' etc. etc.

Turkish - we have the money and the infrastructure and a four year plan. If I'm a prem. league manager and get offered that prem. league salary and backing to take a L1 club to the Prem in four years then I'd snap your hand off. Why wouldn't you? I'm assuming that the club doesn't have to disclose how much the manager is being paid? If the price is right ...

I think we should have a poll on what level of manager people think we deserve. Then we can divide the forum into groups. Those who blatantly know **** all about football and thus can go on ignore, and then those that realise that we are a League 1 club that won't attract the best Managers in Europe.

He may have blabbed his way out of a job
I always felt that he opened his mouth far too early when he talked about how he wanted the job, I wonder if he blabbed because he knew he wasn't going to get the job, just using the oppotunity to promote himself.
