View From The Top Posted 8 September, 2010 Share Posted 8 September, 2010 If people can't see why an appointment of someone like Adkins, Howe, O'Driscoll is a positive move then I despair. That Saints fans actually think that MON was very likely to take a L1 job suggests to me that our fan based, sadly, is 'kin deluded.
Turkish Posted 8 September, 2010 Share Posted 8 September, 2010 MON isn't and never was coming here. If you get that in your head and then assess Adkins' credentials against say Brown or Andy Scott you might realise that he's not a bad appointment. I fear for Adkins with so many Saints fans having this sort of opinion. The guy will be starting on the back foot already. He might be better off waiting a week or so until we have hit rock bottom, then a few more fans might appreciate his appointment. He'd be a decent appointment, not quite what was touted at the weekend but all the same has achieved 2 promotions in three seasons from this league with a side no where near as good and a much smaller club. The problem is the majority of our fan base are seriously deluded. It seems that the only one the majority would accept it O'Neill, one of Britains best managers, one or two aren't even overly keen on him. Any other L1 club would love to have a manager like Adkins CV, compare his record to that of Paul Lamberts, who in some peoples eyes is some sort of managerial god. The Paul Lambert thing is a bit unfair. Yes, Lambert was largely unproven as a manager, but as a player he played at the very highest level. Adkins has the stigma of only being a physio before his current managerial position and is also largely unknown as a player. Adkins is a good appointment for this level of football. However, there are a lot of unanswered questions about how he will fare higher up, and with bigger name players. And given Cortese's statement about "managerial stability" it raises questions about Adkins' suitability here in the Championship and/or the Premier League, if we get that far. The more I think about it the more I tend to agree with you. As proven by the amount of names mentioned on here indicates that people are clutching at straws because there is not any real info being leaked, and there are too many contradictions ie: Adkins was coming down for interview today, and then, Adkins is still in scunny etc etc. All confusing but I think this story has not ended yet. Point i was making though it that Lambert is reveared on here by some, yet Adkins arguably has a better record.

St. Jason Posted 8 September, 2010 Share Posted 8 September, 2010 He'll get my full support. OK, he's not the glamourous name some hoped but he's definitely a sensible choice. I just hope people don't start sharpening their knives the minute his appointment's announced. I think the reason some (me) will have our doubts is because Pardew has more to offer, he's got the promotions, cup finals and premiership experience so without a full explanation from Cortese I cannot see how this is moving us forward!!!!
