Window Cleaner Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 good to see we're taking it really slow, they need to win, we just need more points than them. 22/0 off 14 overs.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 If we can win,it will almost certainly send Kent down, and we can all enjoy the Warwickshire game next week.Hopefully this will turn out to be a very important toss to win.
Halo Stickman Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Hughes is turning out to be an inspired signing - NOT! When will Hampshire learn that new players invariably take at least 4 matches to bed in; would rather have gone with Benham - or is he injured? - for this match. Hopefully Hughes will score a ton in the second innings and make me eat my words, but then again I was hoping we'd not be needing a second innings.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 As I have said before following Hampshire and Saints should come wuth a government health warning. Hampshire are certainly not making it easy for themselves.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 I hope at least 4 Hampshire batsmen, can look Jimmy Adams in the eye tonight.[i exglue Ervine who was out to a wonder catch].
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Exglue should read exclude in the above post.
Hatch Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Notts all out for 59 in their top of the table match with Yorks.
Lets B Avenue Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 A Yorkshire win this week, will keep them interested in their last match. v Kent.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Spot on Kenny[Lets B Avenue],but if Kent beat us,we have to beat Warwickshire to stay up[and send Warwickshire or maybe Kent down]. This was probably a gimme up to a fortnight ago, when they started to win their ccc games. By the way do you not think it would help if another top order batsman or two managed to hang around long enough with Jimmy Adams?
chrisobee Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 (edited) Hants 204. Kent 15/1 off 15 overs, suggests it's not that easy to score runs but aside from Adams and Vince no one really seemed to apply themselves. Bandara who bowls leg breaks 4-42 off 17 overs. Maybe having Dawson as well as Briggs will help if Cork decides to bowl him ? Edited 7 September, 2010 by chrisobee
Halo Stickman Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 Spot on Kenny[Lets B Avenue],but if Kent beat us,we have to beat Warwickshire to stay up[and send Warwickshire or maybe Kent down]. This was probably a gimme up to a fortnight ago, when they started to win their ccc games. By the way do you not think it would help if another top order batsman or two managed to hang around long enough with Jimmy Adams? Yes, I agree that the Notts v Yorkshire result is almost as important to Hampshire as the Kent v Hants result. It’s important that Yorkshire are still in with a chance of winning the title next week when they play Kent, otherwise they might use that match to give an opportunity to fringe members of their squad. I’m hoping we won’t need to beat Warwickshire next week. All year I’ve had a feeling that Imran Tahir might come back to haunt us. Also, I understand that Ian Bell will be returning for them. On top of that, without McKenzie, our middle order batting looks a bit fragile, and –2nd inns v Lancs aside– our tail is looking a tad too long! Plus it could rain all next week!
Weston Saint Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 Kent bowled out for 182. So that is Hants 4 bonus points Kent 3. We have a lead of 22 runs on first innings
corsacar saint Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 What a magnificent bowling performance, now up to the batsmen,to get us an unassailable lead.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 September, 2010 Author Posted 8 September, 2010 What a magnificent bowling performance, now up to the batsmen,to get us an unassailable lead. never mind the unassailable lead, an all day batting practice for the top order will do nicely.
chrisobee Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 Relief to see Carberry and Adams bat out the last 12 overs, only 16/0 but we're in pole position now. Cork, Tomlinson and Ervine all bowled well and Briggs got one wicket though only bowled 8 overs, really great effort with Corky leading the way again by getting 3 of the top 4 and Tomlinson polishing off the tail. On this pitch 250 might be enough though I'd like at least 300 !!
chrisobee Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 never mind the unassailable lead, an all day batting practice for the top order will do nicely. Which would probably give us an unassailable lead
Weston Saint Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 (edited) 165/2 and a lead of 182. Still a long way to go yet. 181/2 now and Dawson has now 1,000 first class runs in his career. Edited 9 September, 2010 by Weston Saint
Lets B Avenue Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 272-6 Vince 38* and off for rain. 50 and out for most of the top 4.
chrisobee Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 I think it's clear this isn't the easiest pitch to score on so 56 for Carberry, 52 for Adams, 50 for Dawson, 38 for Hughes, 26 for Bates and 38* for Vince is a consistent effort and a lead of 294 looks good to me especially with it looking like play may have ended for today ? Only Ervine failed with 0 so I'm reasonably happy with that effort. Hopefully another 50 or so and then it will be very hard for Kent to win but weather permitting ( forecast for Friday is cloudy but only 20% chance of rain) we should have an excellent chance.
chrisobee Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 (edited) Close of play it is. Fingers crossed for a full day tomorrow, plenty of cloud is unlikely to do us any harm when we bowl. Edited 9 September, 2010 by chrisobee
corsacar saint Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Ours to win, hopefully,a really solid batting performance today, well done Hampshire. another 30-50 runs would be great in morning, and then lets see if we can bowl them out.
dubai_phil Posted 9 September, 2010 Posted 9 September, 2010 Watched from afar via cricinfo & Torygraph a good fight today. Hopefully press on and get the win and I can enjoy my trip to the Rosebowl on 22nd at a Div 1 venue
keithd Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 declared with a lead of 377. only two results possible now, a draw or Hants win. time for the bowlers to bowl us to safety...
Percysaint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 If there was an award similar to the PFA award where the players vote for there player of the year I reckon Cork would win it for this season...............fantastic job at Hants and his attitude today spot on, go out score quickly and bowl Kent out.
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 If there was an award similar to the PFA award where the players vote for there player of the year I reckon Cork would win it for this season...............fantastic job at Hants and his attitude today spot on, go out score quickly and bowl Kent out. He has proved to be a quite brilliant signing, still amazed Lancs let him go but i'm not compaining
keithd Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 One more before lunch would.... a) be greedy but b) brillo pads!
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 One more before lunch would.... a) be greedy but b) brillo pads! Given lunch would have been taken as you were typing it wasn't too likely. Still 32/2 at lunch in a game that Kent really need to win is good enough. As mentioned previously they play Yorkshire at Headingley in their final game which will be very tough for them. Still that's worse case scenario that they manage to scrape a draw, I'm very hopeful we will win, Briggs starting with a wicket really helps and Key and Denly are arguably their 2 best batsmen.
Weston Saint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 53/3 van Jarrsveld out Briggs 2nd wicket
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 181/5, 3 for Cork, 2 for Briggs. Interesting that Carberry has bowled a couple of overs but Dawson hasn't bowled.
keithd Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 last ball win???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Percysaint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 GET IN Left it late but who cares well done 1st Div for another year great season!!!!!!
Halo Stickman Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Brilliant all round performance with every player contributing to a magnificent victory! Happy, happy Hampshire!!! I'll be sinking a few pints tonight in celebration.
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Another 4 for Cork, 4 for Briggs and 2 for Tomlinson, well done lads ! Given all the injuries it has been a very good season, hopefully a little more luck next season on that score and I would hope to see us challenging for the title. Tahir coming back ?
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Brilliant all round performance with every player contributing to a magnificent victory! Happy, happy Hampshire!!! I'll be sinking a few pints tonight in celebration. That has really been the key ever since we lost Pothas, Dimi and Kabir Ali. Corky really did a magnificent job as already mentioned, I'm sure he'll be back for at least one more season !
dubai_phil Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Well done to the lads, great effort in a difficult season for them injury wise
Dellman Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Has it been a difficult season for injuries or did the injuries bring on the young and local talent and make it a better season?
corsacar saint Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Totally delighted,a magnificent team effort. To stay up after losing our first 4 games in the CCC is awesome. Corkies bowling and captaincy has to make him player of the year, his will to win,is up there with the very best. Very,Very happy indeed.
chrisobee Posted 10 September, 2010 Posted 10 September, 2010 Has it been a difficult season for injuries or did the injuries bring on the young and local talent and make it a better season? A bit of both I think, certainly Bates and Wood played more than would otherwise have been the case and lucky we are to have them alongside the likes of Vince, Briggs and Dawson. I suspect if everyone had been fit and available our line up would have been something like : Adams, Lumb, Carberry, McKenzie, Vince, Ervine, Pothas, Dimi, Kabir Ali, Cork/Tomlinson, Briggs. I certainly don't think the intention was to play Cork as much as we did but needs must so arguably the injuries forced us to play the old boy of the squad and thank heavens for that:D
Big John Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Does this mean that Kent went straight back down? Quick, let's nab their manager, he must be good...
chrisobee Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 (edited) Does this mean that Kent went straight back down? Quick, let's nab their manager, he must be good... Kent could still stay up but they would need to beat Yorkshire and get a stack of bonus points and also rely on us beating Warwickshire. Edited 11 September, 2010 by chrisobee
chrisobee Posted 11 September, 2010 Posted 11 September, 2010 Highlights of Kent v Hants can be seen here : http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/domestic/lv-county-championship/lv-county-championship-video,1422,BP.html At the moment they have 3rd day highlights but one would imagine highlights of Day 4 will be up soon. The picture quality isn't brilliant but good enough.
