corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 According to the bbc sports site,Wednesday owe the taxman, 1.1 million by tomorrow.
Colinjb Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 As a football fan I feel that it would be a shame for a club that's made such a positive start to suffer such a penalty, I do feel for their fans. As a Saints fan, good news! Gets us up another place in the league and puts a rival into a dreadful position. Anyone we would like to sign from them?
Teddy Nutkins Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 According to the bbc sports site,Wednesday owe the taxman, 1.1 million by tomorrow. One way of making up the deficit, Andy. Then we need to find a way of winning matches.See you tonight mate.
hypochondriac Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Tartanowl? Would be interested to hear your thoughts.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Author Posted 7 September, 2010 Agrree with both those sentiments Colin, look forward to seeing you tonight.
Colinjb Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 look forward to seeing you tonight. Okay......... (I assume that was meant as a reply to Terry Nutkins....)
Saint Billy Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 feel sorry for them, we know what it feels like!
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Author Posted 7 September, 2010 It was yes colinjb, meant for Teddy Nutkins.
Colinjb Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Good! Wednesday fans are so arrogant! I wouldn't throw stones like that in our glass house mate! Some of us can be a bit much too!
Window Cleaner Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 According to the bbc sports site,Wednesday owe the taxman, 1.1 million by tomorrow. only 1.1 million!! bunch of cheapskates
cellone Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Pompey fan's must be p1ssing them selve's. The uneven handed treatment of clubs is disgusting, should be one rule for all.

Nexstar Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 wonderful ..and i just paid my £3 booking fee on my Sheff Wed ticket ! Administration doesn't mean out of business
Saint_clark Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Pompey fan's must be p1ssing them selve's. The uneven handed treatment of clubs is disgusting, should be one rule for all. I think that Pompey have gotten off lightly as well, but if Wednesday go into admin tomorrow then it will be one rule for all.
Under Weststand Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Not going to gloat about this, feel for the fans, but at least if they go into admin they are only down to 0 points & not to far adrift. Next job for Comical Andy
explorer saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 So they will be 4 points behind us, 2 games and they will be back in front again
sambosa75 Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Good news for us. They will be a fantastic investment though when they are going cheap for someone to pump some money in to. They'll be fine but hopefully will struggle as the season goes on leading to a take over in the summer.
dune Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Hope this is true. All's fair in love and war and it'd be to our advantage for a rival to flounder.
SuperMikey Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Would be a shame to see them go into admin, tartanowl was pretty sure that they'd settled their PAYE bill and all was going to be well. Mind you, P*mpey thought that as well...difference being that Sheff Wed won't get away with it.
alpine_saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 If the Owls go into admin, this makes an even bigger mockery of the Pompey outcome.
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Author Posted 7 September, 2010 Thank you for joining in one of the few threads I have ever started Alpine. It is just like having royalty on board.
alpine_saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Thank you for joining in one of the few threads I have ever started Alpine. It is just like having royalty on board. The honour is mine. I find it quite sad seeing some Saints fans on here wishing for another team to go into admin, after everything we went through....
toofarnorth Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Hope this isn't true. +1. Don't like to see any clubs punished for the stupidity of a few in the boardroom.
SaintBobby Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Afraid I do want them to go into admin. It's harsh, but I'm interested in the narrow interests of SFC. Also, i think a ten point penalty is a fair penalty. It reflects the fact that you've put more/betetr players on the pitch than you had a right to.
Micky Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Got to feel a bit for them, the amount (in footballing terms) appear paltry really - sign of the times I guess. Always liked Wednesday, always seemed like a good family club, decent fans - got to wish them well and hope they get out of it. I believe that they share in a little bit of our history in the fact that they were the club to play in the last FA Cup game at the Dell, which we won 3 - 1 (if memory serves). Mind you we then got drawn against Tranmere, which is probably best forgotten...!
corsacar saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Author Posted 7 September, 2010 Our deduction lost us at least the play-offs and maybe outright promotion,so each club has to abide by the rules. It is totally unfair on the fans as they are the ones to suffer. It is a shame some clubs do not live within their own means.

redkeith Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 I would have sympathy for them, were it not for the fact that they have signed half a dozen players this summer, and turned down offers for their best forward Tudgay. If you were to add up they signing on fees, extra wages and tranfer fee they would have received I don't think they would be much short of the money that they owe HRMC. They are doing what the skates did, but to the tune of £1m not £120M. A prudeny club would have sold some players to raise the tax bill, and then see who they could aford to sign afterwards.
niceandfriendly Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 I used to think administration in football clubs was a "bit of a laugh". Until it happened to us. Hope they're alright.
Micky Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Tranmere was the last FA Cup game at The Dell. Ohhh yeah - course it was - we lost the replay at their place didn't we. Sorry, must have had a 'blonde' moment there.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 Administration doesn't mean out of business Not the end of the world if the Administrator comes up with a creditor's voluntary agreement that shafts the taxman, a la poopy.
Toadhall Saint Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 As a football fan I really dislike hearing this kind of news especially when you look at those in the prem that owe more than the GDP of a third world country.
Doctoroncall Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 I would have sympathy for them, were it not for the fact that they have signed half a dozen players this summer, and turned down offers for their best forward Tudgay. They sold their star keeper for a seven figure sum to Burnley I think. So where has that money gone?
Window Cleaner Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 that was an old Gene Pitney song wasn't it 24 hours from admin?
S-Clarke Posted 7 September, 2010 Posted 7 September, 2010 They've been saved. for now. their bank has bailed them out.
tartanowl Posted 8 September, 2010 Posted 8 September, 2010 Sorry guys I have had an unwell little lad the past few days so I haven't had much chance to go online. Tartanowl? Would be interested to hear your thoughts. All is not well and it now appears that the board have been a bit 'selective' with the truth with regards to our financial figures and various other goings on. According to our ex-Chairman (now just a ST holder and fan) it turns out that we have a £1.5m 'black hole' in the accounts and that we may have been mislead on other goings on by the Finance Director and other board members. The fans are not happy and I can see things turning nasty if the board are not finally removed. Somehow these dinosaurs are still on the board at the club despite putting their signatures to Dave Allen's lawsuit when he sued some of our own fans, despite overseeing 3 relegations, and despite more than doubling our debt since our initial relegation from the Premier League. They're like a bad smell that just won't go away. In all our years of under-achievement these people have still remained in positions of power at the club despite not contributing their own cash. It is truly unbelievable. Good! Wednesday fans are so arrogant! You're a closet Blade. Your opinion is invalid. Would be a shame to see them go into admin, tartanowl was pretty sure that they'd settled their PAYE bill and all was going to be well. Mind you, P*mpey thought that as well...difference being that Sheff Wed won't get away with it. Apparently the initial PAYE bill we were in court for was historical. This has only just surfaced as being the truth just now. It turns out we had additional and current tax monies to pay to HMRC on top of what we paid with the Lee Grant transfer money. Nick Parker the CEO was supposed to be communicating openly with the fans trust (he publicly said he would do this) yet despite knowing full well about the financial situation and what was going on, he neglected to mention this at a recent previous trust meeting despite his pledge of honesty and openness. The Co-op Bank have bailed us out (AGAIN) for now but I don't know how much longer this will go on. We have been incredibly fortunate to have the support we have had from them. I would have sympathy for them, were it not for the fact that they have signed half a dozen players this summer, and turned down offers for their best forward Tudgay. We only received two bids in total for Marcus both from the same club (Blackpool). Both of the bids were under £500k. Would you accept that? They sold their star keeper for a seven figure sum to Burnley I think. So where has that money gone? To pay off historical tax monies owed to HMRC. I'm not sure but I presume it also covered part of the 'black hole' I mentioned earlier. They've been saved. for now. their bank has bailed them out. Like you say, for now.
