gonzo Posted 6 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 6 September, 2010 Just looked at the possible managers from the Premier League (according to SSN 2 have applied) and the only ones I can realistically see dropping from top flight management to League 1 are Roberto Di Matteo, Roberto Martinez & Ian Holloway. Apart from those, there are no others IMO who would resign and come here. I don't think either di Matteo or Martinez would come here - di Matteo has a good job at West Brom, and despite recent results Whelan still gives Martinez his overwhelming support, if what he says in public is to believe (and he's not one to mince his words). Holloway possibly may, but I think after his experience with Leicester may well be wary of coming to a 'big club', especially with how things soured between him and Mandaric. OldNick Posted 6 September, 2010 Share Posted 6 September, 2010 I was phoned today and told that Oneill was at SMS saturday and has been there twice this season. My friend who phoned me was adamant that his friend had actually seen MON in the toilets and they had shaken hands, I lolled. My friend was not so amused as he was adamant that his mate would not lie Lol

Giordano Posted 6 September, 2010 Share Posted 6 September, 2010 If its to be someone who knows what they are doing in getting out of Division One Adkins is the outstanding candidate. He may be good enough for the CC - but if you want the outstanding guy for the CC its probably Billy Davies. If you want someone to stay in the Premiership and punch above your weight then probably Allardyce is your man. If you want to get into europe without going too mental then MON is the guy. I wouldnt get a ferrari to do my weekly sainsburys shop even if i thought i might need it for a drive in a few years time. If i got a problem with my plumbing i call the best local plumber - not the guy who fixes the hoover dam. If i needed to drill a hole in a piece of wood i wouldnt use a mont blanc pen with 24ct gold nib, id use a black and decker. If i wanted to show that i know my football id pick the manager most likely to get me the title " div 1 champions 2010" on our honours board. If i wanted to be a johnny showoff useless c%nt id pick someone that wld impress my international friends like Gullit or similar but that does not have a clue about hartlepools tactics...think i made my point!;-)

derry Posted 6 September, 2010 Share Posted 6 September, 2010 Not wishing to stir up a hornets' nest but I think it might have been - but back in May or June. Cortese's plan might have been to fire Pardew and hire Coppell. The flaw in that theory is that Coppell would not have been willing to "tug the forelock to Les Reed", as you so aptly put it. But Cortese seemed to have a very high regard for Coppell that (I think) pre-dated Reed, and perhaps Reed was to be sacrificed as well. Just a thought. Bill, I think people are looking too hard for scapegoats. I put the question of this scenario to the CEO of a massive company yesterday. He said if the manager wasn't co-operating with the structure being set in place he would have to be dispensed with. Cortese is trying to build from the bottom up and the manager needs to buy into the structure or go. At the Plymouth game I was told he didn't want to stay and would be gone by Christmas, I asked why doesn't he just go then, the answer , simple, compensation yet again. That's three sackings in a row for Pardew, some CV. From what I've heard the interference wasn't Reed over Pardew it was the other way round. John Smith Posted 6 September, 2010 Share Posted 6 September, 2010 2 things, once it is announced: 1. we need to go back through all these ITK posts and ban them from this site. 2. Whoever the new manager is, they need to hit the ground running, get the players on side and not have any in fighting amongst other coach's If this manager is not a big name and is not in charge fully and someone else is pulling his strings (Mr Reed), then there will be sooooooo much pain coming their way, it will be the end of Cortese. I'm not sure if Cortese realises just how in the balance things are at the moment, and if he gets this wrong and we apppoint Mr Wrong, then, well, it doesn't bare thinking about. Some on here would call me a Cortese supporter, I just wasn't put off by his decisions, they didn't effect the first team. Getting rid of Pardew? Well, Pardew was ok, but, if it was down to unprofessional behaviour, then I'm more upset with Pardew than Cortese reacting to the situation, and let's face it, Pardew has got previous. BUT, if this decision is wrong and we go from a very decent appointment of Pardew, did as well as you would expect, from Pardew to some untried and tested manager who just falls flat on his face, well, I will lose hope in promotion this year. Again, if we hadn't achieved that under Pardew, I could have accepted that he'd done as good as he coul've done, but time to go and pass this dream team onto someone else. But, for all the reasons Pardew may or may not have gone, this is THE perfect opportunity to get the right guy in, Cortese's guy, let's hope he doesn't f*ck it up!
