New manager announcement tomorrow

IF it is Adkins i'd be very surprised if it costs us that much. It's well known Scunny have a small budget so i can't imagine he is on a massive amount as manager. Just their chairman trying to get greedy as they know we have money.

My worry with him is that he has done well with no money, but if he joins us i'm sure he will be given some money in Jan. Might not be very good when he is given money to spend, many managers have failed there. Peter Taylor and Craig Burley (Ipswich) to name just two.

January?!?! If we're not in the top 6 by Xmas, it will be a new Manager choosing how to spend a January budget!

Adkins for Pardew is like Heskey for Defoe. Completely pointless. Got to be a big name or Cortese has lost the plot.

Rightly or wrongly Pardew's relationship with Cortese went bad - therefore he could no longer be a good manager for us as Cortese is staying. An important quality in our new manager is the respect / trust of Cortese -that is why a "lesser" manager maybe a better appointment

How about Ryan Giggs?

Being lined up as longer term Wales manager. Has already got some coaching badges and an aspirational third tier club would be an ideal place to hone his coaching skills.

Best of both worlds: a big name in the game but not a 'big head' manager (yet) so would fit into Cortese's 'all for one, one for all' management structure.

Oh, and he could also put on a Saints shirt for the rest of the season...

Several birds killed with one stone there. I like your thinking Lord Trousers.

I like your thinking too. It's never going to happen but I like it.

Surely it's not Adkins. If someone at the club really told 5Live on Saturday that it would be a big appointment which would impress the fans... then Adkins - no offence to the guy who is clearly a very good coach - just ain't the man.

Frankly, if Cortese comes out and says 'My fellow Saints, the dream continues. And as a mark of how high I'm aiming, here he is, our next manager, all the way from S****horpe Lincolnshire, iiiiiiiiiiittttt's Nigel ADKINS!!!!!!!' I will just **** myself laughing.

ssn suggested last night that two present/previous PL managers have applied for the job.

I wonder if that Kevin Macdonald at Villa has applied considering it looks increasingly unlikely he will get the Villa job?

If past PL manager then this could be a long list of candiates such as Brown, Coppell, Dowie, Shearer, Keegan, Zola, MoN .......

Brown and Dowie are almost certainly the two

The PL is the place to be, so I'd be very surprised if a current manager wanted to drop 2 divisions

A reporter from Radio humberside was on Solent this morning. Said Adkins linked with Swansea job in the summer and actually applied for the Palace job where he interviewed well and came a close second to George Burley! Is this really the sort of manager that NC's after? Second to Burley!

Exactement. **** myself laughing.

May be Burley talks the talk at interview. Plenty of times the best man doesn't win. I can't believe that so many people on here are so quick to judge people they have never met for a job they've never done themselves.

after reading all the speculation on here, the echo sky, BBC 5 live + others - I have come to the conclusion that no one has a ****ing idea as each and every source seems to contradict the last one.

Young english manager, wow factor manager, european manager......blah blah blah

manager lined up to replace pardew,no manager lined up to replace pardew, appointment today,no imminent appointment.........blah blah blah

I think the club are feeding the press aload of bull**** IMO.

But this tells us more about Crystal Palace than it does about Adkins.

I agree. I don't think it will be O'Neil, Adkins, Brown or any of the main names talked about. One thing that Cortese has done since he's been here is to keep his cards very close to his chest. That will be more so than ever now. Apart from him there will only be a couple of others max. who know what is going on and if they leaked anything he would sack them immediately.

it's not Adkins' fault that Palace were blindsided by Burleys Scottish lilt. Scunny just thrashed Palace 3-0 by the way and are midtable in the Championship with two wins and two defeats. People underestimate Adkins. Management is not about being a name, its about being good at what you do. He clearly is good at what he does. The only question is can he transcribe that technique to a bigger club with more money available? Some manage it (think David Moyes) and some don't (think Luggy).

Would rather NC found a heavyweight he can get along with, but I agree with your post in principle.

I reckon the current Premier League manager is Baron Greenback looking to jump before he's pushed out of West Ham.

What odds on a name which hasn't been mentioned here or anywhere else. Potentially quite good odds I would think...
before we even sacked Pardew, Zola was mentioned. That name has gone off the radar somewhat. Would that count?

Bingo. Adkins has done extremely well. If he agrees to drop down a division to come here it would be a very good move for club and him.

I think you're right.

Also I don't think it really matters (from a fan POV) who is appointed; we'll end up with the usual Pareto reaction - 10% of posters will be under-whelmed, 10% will be delighted, and 80% will "wait to see what happens".

Would they be interested in a club they probably know very little about Phil?

Starting off a career that would eventually lead to the Italy job and a World Cup. Yes I think it could be sold.

After all, look where Cannavaro is playing this season - Dream move for him to

This new setup might cause problems appointing a big name ?

If this is true won't be MON no way would he work like that. Points to a foriegn coach rather than a manager. Also shows that the club statement about AP was true nothing to do with his bed hoping around players wives. NC wants a european style club set up AP as a English manager just wouldn't have worked out.

UHM... why are we still so obsessed by 'big names'? We are a L1 club that has gone through a massive fall and are slowly starting to rebuild thanks in no small part to Cortese bringing the sadly departed Markus to the table. My question is less about why Pards was dismissed - because whatever footballing rationale there was for continuity, its never good when there is friction (whoever is the cause or right or wrong)... but more why they appointed him in the first place if there were doubts or potential issues ahead. I am going to speculate here... in that Pards was probably appointed after he gave ML and Cortese assurances - give me the money and I will get us out of L1 this year - probably as simple as that. Once it was clear it was not going to happen, the axe was going to fall, but for the intervention of the 'fan voice' - which stayed the execution, but did further damage to the relationship + Pards digs in the press, which whether right or wrong in their assessment was not the 'style' of the Swiss who are very vigorous in what is given to the media - contol freakish maybe, but possibly a combination of the 'Swiss culture' (they are not obsesseed with media/celebrity culture as we are) and a reaction to the way the club was often citicised from the outside, by ex staff, who did not really have the information to make informed comment - For all Le Tiss's/LMs Greatness, and as valid as their opinions are, it did not help having them comment on the situation when they were not in possesion of all the facts - as it naturally divided fans further. I appreciate they were just venting their own frustration re the club they love, but it was still an unnecessary and unwanted distraction.... anyway I digress..

Back to the matter at hand. What we need most is a manager who is ambitious, not stuck in some old school rut, likes to see sides play with flair and entertain, but with the steel and edge necessary to combat some of the more 'assertive' sides in at this level. Someone who is also 100% behind the approach - the u21 thing, the strategy etc and is not so worried about ego, but commands a generous respect that is earned by their working with the staff and players.... nice and easy then? ;-)

I just want to see someone who has the potential to take us all the way - not a stop gap until we get to the prem who is then replaced by a 'name' who would not consider us when we were in 'lowly L1' - someone who becomes part of the Saints family and understands the culture - someone whose ambition and personal goals will be more satisfied by acheiving success with Saints than taking a shortcut to the prem, the moment someone bigger comes calling - in that way, if at all possible, we are looking for someone who is already in the championship (or level) and willing to take the step back down because he sees what we are doing, understands it fully and is also in the SAME mindset.

Season write off? We should not be such drama queens - win the game in hand and we are only 3 points off the top which is nothing. Undoubtedly whoever is appointed will disappoint some - those who seem more concerned about the perception of the club in the media or amongst other fans than anything else. Whoever comes in, whatever name is irrelevent if we have success. We should remmeber that even a big name can fail - lose interest or be poached - none of which will give us the continuity we crave.

Finally, lets stop this 'cortese fans v cortese haters' tag rubbish. You dont need to agree with everything he does, but we should at least try and understand why he is doing it before jumping on the soapbox. Sure he is quiet on the explanation front, but we need to accept that's his style. He will not have earned the trust of someone as well respected as Markus without doing things right more often than not. Our frustration is that we feel we are in the dark too often and that would be my message to Nicola - just help us understand, and that frustration which manifests itself in negativity will begin to disappear.

good post. I think you might be asking to much from a legaue one level manager there aren't to many managers who can get sides playing football like Barca and get results who are going to come down to league one level. If the five year plan is to be followed we need results even if that comes from hoofball.
