Right, enough of this.

If O'Neil is coming here, wonderful.

If Phil Brown is coming here, right o.

If Kevin Keegan is coming here. Sound.

Either way, I just want it sorted out soon so the conjecture can be made irrelevant.

Night all.

On the bookies odds, please understand it's a massively illiquid market.

I put £20 on MON at 7/1 just to see what happened. Within 5 seconds, his odds were cut to 4/1.

Ok, I have probably lost £20 just to prove a point, but there you go...

O'Neill and his agent are in a hotel on the outskirts of Southampton. That is the last update I have.

That is not good news, look at how it transpired for William Hague and his aide when they were holed up in a hotel.... bad karma man, real bad...!

Edit: Doooh beaten to the punch by Trousers - but they do say great minds think alike.

He didn't say MON and his agent were sharing a room/bed...just in the same hotel...

Btw, assuming there isn't much evidence of the appointment being on Tuesday?

Not suggesting the OP acting in bad faith, but there doesn't seem much substance to this just yet.

If there were to be an announcement later today, I'd expect us to be hearing "Southampton expected to confirm XXX as new manager later today..." by about now...

They said it on 5 Live - that's why I started the thread. They sounded pretty sure that it would be announced today.

As I say, wasn't suggesting you'd invented it!

Just wonder whether it was qualified at all e.g "speculation is growing that Southampton may appoint their new manager as soon as tomorrow" rather than "Radio 5 understand Saints new manager will be unveiled tomorrow"

In any event, with each passing moment, I'd say it's more and more likely that they had their wires crossed. Am not ruling it out yet though....

Get your money on Mr Shearer!!!

I'd advise against backing Shearer.

In the event that he does re-enter management, you can be sure that the BBC would have a good heads up, just because of his contract with them.

74 mins in. Still nothing.

Don't hold your breath.

I think there's a fairish chance that we might still be managed by Dean Wilkins against Swindon.

Has any caretaker manager ever lost twice to the same team ?

I saw Gordon Strachan at Longleat last week, pretty sure its not going to be him though! The following rumours

06 Sep 2010 23:14:09

Southampton in talks with:

First Team Coach- Ian Baraclough

Goalkeeping Coach- Kevin Pressman

BOTH of Sc* thorpe, clearly Nigel Adkins to be appointed tommorow

Apparently compensation with Adkins, Pressman and Baraclough agreed.

News From St.Marys

Martin O'Neill As the New Manager of southampton

First Signing Will Be The Biggest signing of the transfer window Gai Assulin free followed by jay demerit free and richard wright free

06 Sep 2010 20:53:23

Skybet just cut the odds on Martin O'Neil getting the Southampton job from 12/ 1 to 4/ 1 - do they know something we dont?? ? ?

Come from here;

http://www.football-rumours.co.uk/southampton-rumours.php

But to be honest the page mentions so many different managers (some not mentioned here) that its pretty clear nobody seems to know. Wasn't Martin O'Neill linked with managing Notts Forest over the weekend? (NoTW?)

I've just been sat with 2 lads who are estate agents in bitterne, had them phone pretty much every contact they have in winch and it is common knowledge that o'neil has just signed an agreement to rent the house in winch.....all the knowledge they could gain, but its in the know in winch, checked all online betting companies and they have withdrawn our management specials and have still the next wales manager etc still up so if it were to be suspended it would have occured along with the wales special......

hold tight, this could be a sleepless night!

As much as I would love this to be true, I just can't believe it until we know for sure. Not saying you're lying, just that MoN as our next manager would be too good to be true.

ok, letting myself dream and be optimistic for a bit...

If we get MON, we'll have the manager I consider to be the very best in the country...

Possibly SAF is the better manager currently, but that's because he's been there and done it all already, he can't have many seasons left to give, hence given a choice between the two, I'd pick MON.

Literally, if I had the pick of any manager in the country to manage a team, I'd pick MON.

Echo head writer on Twitter: MON would be great but it won't happen. I can pretty much guarentee that.

Echo get it wrong again shock horror.

I am not ITK but the Echo make it up as they go along or print garbage from the Mail.

Forum member slagging off the Echo for getting it wrong, when they, err, haven't got anything wrong, shock horror. Either that, or I've missed the Martin O'Neil unveilling press conference that you seem to have seen.

So, do we have anyone posted outside Staplewood or SMS? Pilchards is normally to be found up a tree near Staplewood at this point of the proceedings - I would imagine if anyone is unveiled today then he will meet the players first.

If it were to be Adkins unveiled as the new manager firstly he would have to resign from S****horpe.

Until we hear of such news i thiink it is more unlikely to be him.

As soon as that is announced we will know who the next gaffer is,the longer it goes without his resignation i beleive it points to someone else....mmm i wonder.

Full nights sleep, and still no manager? I saw MoN.... my dream last night and when I woke up I am sure I heard my 8 year old daughter saying MoN, and when I asked her she said who is MoN ha ha ha! I think I am cracking up. I would love it if we got him!

Very good point that no-one appears to have picked up on.

He could resign and take the Saints post straight away, could all happen this morning!

Why would he have to resign? I would suspect more likely we would have to make an offer to S****horpe for his services, which could have been done and agreed already.

And I'm sure part of that agreement would be to keep quiet about it and make no announcements until we have. Even if that cost us a little more, it's the sort of thing NC would do.

There was a rumour that we had offererd £350k to scunny, they refused that offer,if Adkins wants the job the quickest and simplest way to join us is resign perhaps.

Just my opinion,i obviously could be way off the mark.

I don't believe a manager can just resign to move to another club with no 'transfer' fee being agreed any more than a player can.

How about Ryan Giggs?

Being lined up as longer term Wales manager. Has already got some coaching badges and an aspirational third tier club would be an ideal place to hone his coaching skills.

Best of both worlds: a big name in the game but not a 'big head' manager (yet) so would fit into Cortese's 'all for one, one for all' management structure.

Oh, and he could also put on a Saints shirt for the rest of the season...

Several birds killed with one stone there. I like your thinking Lord Trousers.

Correct he can resign & can probably agree a deal behind their back with us. But he cannot take up his post & conduct himself as manager/head-coach until a compensation pakage with S****horpe has been agreed!

Do you honestly think Fergie would let Giggs go? He's still an important part of their squad.

I also doubt Giggs would come whilst he's still playing PL and CL football.

IF it is Adkins i'd be very surprised if it costs us that much. It's well known Scunny have a small budget so i can't imagine he is on a massive amount as manager. Just their chairman trying to get greedy as they know we have money.

My worry with him is that he has done well with no money, but if he joins us i'm sure he will be given some money in Jan. Might not be very good when he is given money to spend, many managers have failed there. Peter Taylor and Craig Burley (Ipswich) to name just two.
