Saint J 77 Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 I don't think it's a case of Cortese's power gone to his head. He's not an idiot, and I firmly believe there must have been a bloody good reason for him to sack Pardew. Of course, we need to wait and see what happens next. We've had a shocking start, but there's plenty of time left in the season for things to come good. We do have to get a move on, but I'm sure things will be great come May. Let's be honest, when has Southampton Football Club ever done things the easy way? We'd all get bored if it was plain sailing! oh what I would give for some plain sailing for Saints right now. Thedelldays Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 it would be funny if NC left...the liebherr family pulled out...we had to sell off the crown jewells and the vast setup we have was cut back dramatically and we became the worst team in the south (cherries are flying) we will at least have our club back from the evil foreigners
popyto Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 I think Cortese's happy enough knowing how fickle football supporters are, and that the right appointment and a few good results, (which hes probbably fairly confident of) the fans will come flooding back quickly forgetting about AP. I rember when Lowe bought in Glenn Hoddle as 'temporary' manager during Dave Jones time here, there was a bit of outrage due to the lack of support Jones got when that role was made permanent, that was quickly forgotten by most. Indeed. The transitional period will probably comprise of two games: A JPT defeat - never mind, could be a blessing in disguise; and, a defeat in a league game where no matter the manager we could have played all day and not scored a goal. No biggy.

Gordon Mockles Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Oh do grow up. So because NC could earn more in banking than working here, he is a selfless saviour, who only has our best interests at heart? Why are we so blessed? And why bestow such generosity on our humble club? We should be truly grateful and never question a thing this messier has done for us. FFS. He is exactly what the original poster suggests, power crazy. Nothing in itself wrong with that, in fact you could argue it's imperative for a good CEO, but only one who can make the right choices. NC has lurched from poor decision to poor decision. The banning of press photographers I thought would be hard to beat, but our man stood up to the plate and showed stupidity knows know bounds. After having all summer to sack pardew and bring in a new man with time to do pre-season and spend wisely, he waits for the end of the transfer window to make the change after 3 games. What a plonker. But hey, the rumour is ML wanted AP sacked but it was NC who talked him out of it? I don't think so, why then carry out his wishes now, as a mark of respect?? Get real. Put this latest incident in perspective. NC is a man who thought he could make the club a few hundred quid a game extra by making newspapers buy from an approve SFC supplier. At no stage did he stop top consider that no other football club does this in the world, even Man U, Real Madrid etc who have a lot more muscle. Nor did he consider that no other sporting event in the world does this, the olympics, the NFL, Wimbledon you name it. He didn't stop to consider that although it's a sports event, it's also a news event and the corner stone of western democracy is freedom of speech. Thats the way the papers view it and thats why hell will freeze over before they buy pictures from an approved supplier. And non of this occurred to NC. That alone in my mind makes him a liability, a loose cannon, and someone who would arbitrarily fire a manger without due consideration for the consequences. But apparently it's their club, and they can do what they like? Thats a business not a football club. Yes i think he's power crazy, because he sure ain't taking good counsel. Good post!
