Anyone Remember Essruu & Friends Road Trip To Dagenham?

He did a decent piece on his old website about five odd years ago. It was about him and a crew of Saints lads adopting the 'Daggers' for the odd occasion when Saints weren't playing or when the two teams played on a different day. A bunch of them would go watch D&R and have a good day out.

We were just coming off a European campaign and an established top flight team, with 30,000 going through the turnstiles. Daggers were part time, non-league, no-hopers barely attracting three figure attendances.

Dagenham & Redbrigde are now level on points with Southampton Football Club and we have just been beaten by Rochdale. Some of us must stop burying heads in the sand.

Incoming.

Ignore Robsk TT. I remember those days. We had a proper laugh, getting all dolled up for a night out in Daggers. Lots of stories, none of which can be repeated here!!

Sounds like a great day out, with a 'crew' of 'lads' waering 'clobber' from Stone Island. OK then, TT. Oh knowledgable one.

Give us your incredible insight. I have no doubt that you will anyway.

Understand and share your frustration mate, maybe we should try and find a common thread, unite and try and get through this.

i was one of the 'crew'. Good day out when they lost 1-2 at Aldershot new years day 04. Our 'crew' took Aldershot and Woking on the same day. About 300 D&R fans in the away end, good bunch they were too. Like you say, we were top flight and doing well, they were in the conference, 7 years later we are playing them in the league, you couldn't make it up.

Are you sure you were there? We always spelt it "krew", not "crew".

Hi Tim, hope you're well.

It was something to fill some time and take in some lower league stuff. We are now that lower league stuff :-/

Hopefully it won't be Saints v Aldershot next!

Don't forget, Turkish - we took their message board as well and that young D&R piece wanted some ;-)

Our SaintsFun St Georges Cross did get some bemused looks on the terrace!

  • 2 years later...

Thanks to webarchive, I found some old SaintsFun pages today, including the pic TijuanaTim spoke of above.

Under The Spotlight still makes me chuckle (Manji, St.Keith & St Steve, for anyone who remembers them!) :- http://web.archive.org/web/20060617153703/http://saintsfun.co.uk/spot.htm

The one feature that cracks me up is St.Steve's Holiday Snaps. C'mon Steve... I know you're still around... reveal yourself ;-)

http://web.archive.org/web/20060617153903/http://saintsfun.co.uk/ststevesnaps.htm

If you search around the site, you may even find when stevegrant won our prestigious award :-)

This era, folks, is when SaintsForever was decent. Post-Network54 and pre-SaintsForum/SaintsWeb.

Happy Days indeed.

I take it SG's award was the highest accolade any poster could hope to acheive - "Pr!ck on a stick".

More SaintsFun links please matey - too lazy to do it myself!!

whatever happened to Robsk?

After years of tree hugging, finally found his true love and disappeared into the sunset with a Conifer Tree.

Fair do's to him, he used to take a lot of flak on here for his sensible tree hugging views, but always bounced back for more!!

No infractions or bannage back then. But there again, not so many trolls and wum's either - just loads of good dish it out and take it back banter.

I'd like to see some of the B-anter around the time of the SaintsForever v SaintsFun match, probably about April 2004-ish... that front page pic of Phil the goalie always made me laugh, you bitter bastards. :)
