buctootim Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 For christ sake, the "get your fathers gun" chant is just another way to make a lot of noise. True. I dont object to it - but its not that long since Saints fans were known for great singing of loads of different and funny songs. That doesnt happen much anymore. Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 (edited) Have to say I agree a little with the OP, although it was inevitable that fans would chant for AP when all they know is what they've been told - i.e. he's gone and that means instability again. The fact the team seemed so rubbish after a 0-4 victory just enhanced the feeling I would suggest. But today is all about helping our team get 3 points - nothing else matters until 90mins have elapsed. Sing for a Saints victory whatever part of the ground you sit in. WIFM. COYS! doddisalegend Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Not neccesarily winning IMO, but if the team are working hard, getting stuck in, and making chances, the fans will respond. If the team are looking lost, backing out of tackles, and nothing is happening, they will generally get nothing back. Occasionally the fans will try and lift a poor performance (often with a very long ongoing OWTS) but in my experience if the team are playing crap no amount of singing will improve them. That said, it wont stop me trying :-) well put, I think the fans are more expecting this year though. In some ways with the -10 and stuff last year we seemed much more supportive a bit of a "backs to the wall we're all in this together" situation. This year the crowd seem much quicker to get wound up if things aren't going the teams way.

SaintRichmond Posted 4 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Too much of a snob to sit with his mates in the Northam. Bloody prawn sandwich eater. I slurp my coffee as well Sorry I don't sit in the Northam, but I've had the same ST,for fifty odd years, both at the Dell and now at St Mary's If that excludes me from your exclusive clique, then tough Sh8T The Northam - ers that I do know don't seem to have a problem with where I sit, obviously you do

rallyboy Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 I'm in the Northam and today I will refuse to clap anything at all!! Mainly because my arm is in a sling after I dislocated my effing collar bone in the week. I'd like to say it was from punching the air too much at the Swindon game, but it wasn't. So my fellow negative monkeys who upset sensitive and easily distracted players with irrelelvant chants, feel free to say hello to the man with the arm sling! Unless you are 12 and an extra from Football Factory, then don't bother.
St. Jason Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Today is Very important for Southampton Football Club Today is the day that we MUST put all that has happened over the last week behind us Today is the day that we MUST unite behind the Team on the pitch, and Dean Wilkins on the touch line Today is the day we MUST Cheer like Hell The ONLY important thing today is THREE POINTS I am asking ALL Saints Fans NOT to resort to Booing or chanting negatives in Cortese's direction WHY ???? Because ALL we know for 100% sure is that Pardew & Co have been relieved of their duties WE KNOW NOTHING ELSE Today is FOOTBALL DAY, so COME ON YOU SAINTS FANS Cheer Saints to victory !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bullocks mate, I'm so sick of being patronised by the club and people like you, sick to death of it. We got relegated from the Prem and we were told "get behind the management and team we'll be ok" I did and purchased 2 new season tickets. We were dealt scw and were told "get behind him, it's new its innovative, we'll be ok" I did and purchased 2 new season tickets. Unknown Pearson appointed to save us and i'm told "get behind, we'll be ok" I did, we were, he was sacked we were dealt Portvliet and told "get behind him, we'll be ok" I did and purchased 2 new season tickets. He was sacked and replaced with Wotte where again I was told "get behind him, we'll be ok" I did, already had 2 tickets Pardew came in and again I was told "get behind, we'll be ok" I did and purchased 2 new season tickets, he did well, got sacked with no explanation! Sorry but I'm sick of it, why is it always us that have got do all the giving, all the trusting only to be shafted every time? Look, if Pardew has been caught with his pants down then fine, sack him, release a statement simply saying "sacked for gross misconduct" but don't treat me like a mushroom! This season we've had- no season ticket payment plan no season ticket renewal forms no photographers £3 online booking charge £2.00 pay on the day charge Car park charges (if there's a queue you can add another £2 to your match day ticket) a sacked manager What have we actually got out of the deal????? Not even an explanation!!!!!
St. Jason Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 A good shout SR. Pardew is gone and nothing that a moronic element of the Northam can do will get him back. You are absolutely right that we do not know the circumstances of his dismissal, so to make any sort of judgement on it and apportion blame is just plain stupid. The team will also have been distracted by it all and need us to get behind them instead of distracting them further with chants that do nothing to urge them on. If our support can do something positive and help us gain 3 points, that will steady the ship and restore some confidence. I thought there was plenty of unity and team confidence at Bristol last Saturday?? As for the 'moronic few' in the Northam at least they make some atmosphere! I think they have every right to chant pro Pardew songs, as you say no one knows whats happened so they, I still support him. If Mr Cortese comes out with some sort of statement muddying Pardew then fine, Pardew was an idiot and deserved to be sacked!

Not even an explanation!!!!! Since almost going out of business last year and being saved by the people youre slagging off you've got a totally rebuilt squad, most expensive in the division which just missed out on playoffs. A squad good enough to get promoted almost regardless of who manages us. But apart from that, you're right, nothing.

Fan The Flames Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Maybe people should just be left to make up their own minds, after all singing is democratic, if you don't like a song drown it out with something else.

Well put and well intentioned optimism - but the result and more importantly the performance today indicates deep problems that need more resoution than another rallying call. saint_bert Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 So just to clatify, was it the 10 minutes OWTS chant in the second half that unsettled the team? Or was it when they scored their second goal?
