Today is Very important for Southampton Football Club

Today is the day that we MUST put all that has happened over the last week behind us

Today is the day that we MUST unite behind the Team on the pitch, and Dean Wilkins on the touch line

Today is the day we MUST Cheer like Hell

The ONLY important thing today is THREE POINTS

I am asking ALL Saints Fans NOT to resort to Booing or chanting negatives in Cortese's direction WHY ????

Because ALL we know for 100% sure is that Pardew & Co have been relieved of their duties

WE KNOW NOTHING ELSE

Today is FOOTBALL DAY, so COME ON YOU SAINTS FANS

Cheer Saints to victory !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :):D

Nah, not after what he done when the mancs sent us down from the Prem...and he's turning it around at Ipswich so wont leave...I'm holding out for the Zola/Steve Clarke combo...

Oh, btw, WIFM.

A good shout SR. Pardew is gone and nothing that a moronic element of the Northam can do will get him back. You are absolutely right that we do not know the circumstances of his dismissal, so to make any sort of judgement on it and apportion blame is just plain stupid. The team will also have been distracted by it all and need us to get behind them instead of distracting them further with chants that do nothing to urge them on. If our support can do something positive and help us gain 3 points, that will steady the ship and restore some confidence.

Tbh,i think most of the vitriol towards Cortese will be put to one side,i'ts been a few days after the event,a few made their point on Tuesday when it was still quite raw.

I will do my part from the Itchen,3 points today and things will seem a little better, only a little i might add.

Who's betting there's a "one alan pardew" chant from the monkeys in the northam within the first five mins?

Plus the usual "We hate Pompey" chant

What the hell that has anything to do with the Match on the pitch beggars belief

The Wonderful Northam will most likely be the ones that disrupt the Team most today

"One Alan Pardew" ???? YES, there WAS, but he has GONE

Singing that Stupid chant will really help the players on the pitch won't it ???

Think about it you Northamers

. I'm one of the monkeys inthe Northam. Tuesday night it was not full of the regulars, but was full of spotty yuffs who are never usually there. The Pardew chant was song in a high fulcetto voice from them. I was not singing and I don't think anyone over 18 (age or emotional age) was.

Tell you what, as an experiment ask the club to ban everybody who likes to go to the Northam, the place would be like a f*cking morgue.

PS I won't be singing One Alan Pardew FWIW

Think you will find at cup games very few of the usuals in the Northam are at there seats. This is why I wasn't fussed about going to cup games, because the Northam becomes full of idiots, as tuesday night showed. Please dont slag us off as I dont see many other parts of the ground singing there hearts out for 90 minutes.

Pathetic post.

Whats betting no songs what so ever from the Chappel?

Seeing as the only 'singers' in the Chapel are young H and myself, it will be as quiet as heck there today. Because we are off to Twickers to watch London Irish. Invited by my rugby mad neighbour and said Yes! Then saw the date and it clashed with Saints at home doh.

I'm with SaintRichmond and suggest we keep any anti Cortese feelings under our hat.

Steady on Barry.

People that sit in the Northam like you, me and the others are the most likely cause of unsettling the players today.

Im thinking of not going now. I wasnt planning on singing any AP songs.

Not now I know Lambert will be thinking " oh no, another AP song from the crowd, how will I score now"

NC may have been right, he may have been wrong - I can't make a proper judgement on the facts available publically, so I want events on the pitch today and over the coming weeks turn this week into a small footnote in the history of SFC, it's time to move on.

WIFM (and your own self-respect, first team!)

What IS pathetic is the "We hate Pompey" chant at every single Match

The Northam may very well be the main area that makes any noise, but Positive chanting in support of the Team on the park is far far better than any chant which has absolutely nothing to do with the Match

Yes, Today of all days, we need the POSITIVE SUPPORT of the Northam

You HAVE helped turn Matches in the past

Do it today for the Club we ALL love

Why ?? Does the truth hurt ??

The truth is, if a professional footballer is "unsettled" by fans (in the minority also) singing a song about the previous managers name then they dont deserve to be on the pitch.

Sounds good to me..

The only slight concern I have is, if we do win, NC might start thinking he can take his time over the manager appointment.

I would rather take a few weeks to get a man in who is going to win us say... 30 odd games, than rush into appointing a man who is going to win us 20 odd games.

I suggest we all put a bit of extra effort into the Pompey songs today just to p*ss off Richmond ;-)

Then go ahead, it won't p*ss me off my friend, it simply will take up a bit of time that you wont be chanting for Pardew

And if you do chant for Pardew, then that will help unsettle the Team

So that will be clever won't it ??

No it wont

Wilkins certainly thinks it does - his Rochdale preview is preoccupied with the possible fan response. Might be self-serving but even the messiah Pardew was calling for fans not to get on the team's back at the start of the season coz it was translating into our play.

I agree it is important for the fans to get behind the team I will be doing so as always I dont do booing never have however it is just as important for the team to give us a performance to cheer and get behind.

It will be interesting to see the attitude of the players as they were not up for it Tuesday I hope we all are today.

You actually know that do you ???

If you really believe that, then there is nothing left to say

You just carry on and cheer your team to victory then

I expect they will fully appreciate chants about their former Manager, plus learning that you "all 'ate Pompey"

Waste of time mate

Kingsland are obsessed with "We 'ate Pompey", and now "only one Alan Pardew"

That will surely inspire OUR Team to victory

About as clever as you ignoring the fact I said I WONT be chanting for Pardew.

At the end of the day, I don't agree with it, but if some fans feel they want to chant for him then fair enough really, they can sing what they like.

Edit - Actually, I agree with your general point in the first post, the whole ground needs to get behind the lads today. I just find your snobbery towards other fans unbearable.

I must have missed when Saint Bert or anyone on this forum controlled what the northam sang.

Yes there are mongs that sing stupid and pointless songs but unless you're going to hand out a hyme sheet or move from your keyboard and start your own songs, then I suggest you don't try and attack the vocal support.

Oh and if I was being paid thousands of pounds a week and the fans decided to sing about their rivals for a couple of minutes I think I may storm off the pitch and refuse to play, because no other football fans in this country shout about their rivalry during a game.

Give it a rest.

FWIW, most of my friends I meet up with prior to matches are in the Northam, although they may be in the minority, because they do not see the point of "We 'ate Pompey" unless we are playing them

Snobbery ??? I'm no snob mate. Since when disagreeing with what other people chant constitutes snobbery ??? I'll have to ask a few of the lads when I see them in the Northam Club

think any mention of skates when we are not playing them is cringe worthy. They would love to know that Portsmouth are more important to some fans than supporting the team playing.

The support the team gets comes from whats going on on the pitch if the players give the supporters something to cheer about they will. It's noticable that St Mary's becomes a lot more hostile this season (as compared to last season) if the players aren't doing well on the pitch. It's an old cliche but most fans (of all clubs) only sing when they're winning.

Not neccesarily winning IMO, but if the team are working hard, getting stuck in, and making chances, the fans will respond.

If the team are looking lost, backing out of tackles, and nothing is happening, they will generally get nothing back.

Occasionally the fans will try and lift a poor performance (often with a very long ongoing OWTS) but in my experience if the team are playing crap no amount of singing will improve them.

That said, it wont stop me trying :-)
