Anyone had any really good meals out in Southampton recently?

Trying to choose a place to go for lunch on my birthday this coming Monday. Not looking for a really expensive restaurant (don't believe you have to spend the earth to get good food) but a good setting, food and service would be good....

Any preference of cuisine?

Well, dare I say it...Im vegetarian. So good veggie friendly dishes would be good. However the rest of the people I'm going with are not carrot crunchers and enjoy good food so doesn't have to be a tree huggers establishment.

Some of the best meals I've had are at the likes of Carluccios in London and usually get on with Italian food generally. Also like greek food. Basically I'm as adventurous as a vegetarian can be and enjoy foreign food.

I've had a couple of decent meals in the Slug before, although i'm not overly fussy when it comes to food! Think there's some kind of tapas bar next door which is also supposed to be okay.

Come on Mikey, you are c18, surely its a toss up between McDonalds, Burger King or KFC.

I always get oxford street/London road mixed up but it is there, it was always on the road to the left of Rhino's.

Theres a menu on the website you can look at incase they don't do any veggie options (i assume they do, most italians do) plus if you fancied it i would book as it gets busy.

No problem btw

Frankly, Southampton is a very, very bad places for restaurants. Always has been. Some of those listed are amongst the better ones, but there simply aren't that many that are truly interesting. Some present their food in a posh way and people think it's great as a result, but there's nothing worth getting excited about. Some of the better food is actually in the places that look ****e. Miguels used to be pretty good, funny little place by the station. Not much to look at, often empty, but a few years back they did very genuine, good Spanish food. There's also a place in St Marys that does good Afghan etc food, apparently.

And if you're a veggie, screw it here. Just get the train to Brighton and go to Terre a Terre. Failing that, try Demuth's in bath. Both top notch.

Ennios is my favourite place to eat in Southampton!! Can be a little pricey though depending on the course, and wine choice!

We used to go to a place called El Elias (I think) Looked like the cafe from Ello Ello from the outside but the food was always fantastic (and the place was always packed)

Haven't been for a few years. So not sure if it's still around or run by the same family. KD used to be a frequent visitor in his SFC days, I remember seeing him in there a couple of times.

NO it isn't, there is a very good and wide selection of places. Ennios as i've mentioned is top notch Italian, Corriander Lounge is first class, i took my bro in law there a few weeks ago, he lives in Leeds and said it's the best Indian restaurant he's ever been too. There loads of other good places too, Thai Cafe in Oxford Street is outstanding, Zen, NV, Puchhinnis,

someone else metioned the Chillworth arms which is really good and i live near the Cowherds so go there fairly regularly and that too is very good. There are loads of good restuarants in Southampton.

Can't believe Boozy Rouge is closing down! Fantastic place!

Went to La Cantina in Bedford Place. Was very impressed!

Also, the best Italian I have ever had is L'arcadia in Netley. Lovely little family run place! http://www.larcadia.co.uk/14.html

Edit. Just found out that L'arcadia has closed down now which is a real shame!

It's in Eastleigh, but the Guzel Bistro is very good. It's Turkish, the country not the c*nt.

Glad to see you are sticking to talking to things your delicate little mind can comprehend and not attempting to discuss football on the main board. Now run on little lady your husband needs you to do the bins xxx
