trousers Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Slight coincidence in that he was from Rochdale, whom we play tomorrow
Deppo Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Slight coincidence in that he was from Rochdale, whom we play tomorrow It might be a sign?
St Landrew Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 He was a big Rochdale fan I think. It might be a sign? Not EVERYTHING is related to football. RIP to a great Liberal.
solentstars Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 cyril smith a great character makes all the blairite tory clones like cameron look little boys
Hatch Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 He was a big Rochdale fan I think. a very big one
scotty Posted 3 September, 2010 Author Posted 3 September, 2010 RIP to a great Liberal. oddly enough, he wasnt all that liberal tbh, he was a staunch supporter of capital punishment and avidly in favour of the UK nuclear deterrent. Neither of which went down too well with the party.
hamster Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I personally quite like people who dedicate their lives to politics, ande right reasons, unlike th stick to their guns. btw, his obesity was apparently due to having a small piece of grit enter his bloodstream as a nipper, whech travelled to his kidleys and stuck there. Proper iconic politician for all the right reasons, unlike the ones who do it by being bastrards and starving their own people into submission.
St Landrew Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 (edited) oddly enough, he wasnt all that liberal tbh, he was a staunch supporter of capital punishment and avidly in favour of the UK nuclear deterrent. Neither of which went down too well with the party. Perhaps I should have said, A great Politician then. I wasn't aware that he was in favour of those two major Liberal no-nos. He wasn't a career politician, but more of a life long one. He always counted. EDIT: Quite a few typos, hamster. Was that yardarm a little higher in the sky, this evening..? I wasnt thinking any less of him for that mate, and wasnt criticising you. I was surprised to hear it as well, it was mentioned on the evening news on R4.
bridge too far Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 Interesting obit in today's Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/sep/03/sir-cyril-smith-obituary and a further article by Michael White: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/sep/03/sir-cyril-smith-michael-white
St Landrew Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 I wasnt thinking any less of him for that mate, and wasnt criticising you. I was surprised to hear it as well, it was mentioned on the evening news on R4. That's OK, I didn't think you were anyway. Incidentally, there was a time in Cyril Smith's political life when he was a member of the Labour Party, so he certainly had a mind and opinion of his own. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_Smith
hamster Posted 5 September, 2010 Posted 5 September, 2010 EDIT: Quite a few typos, hamster. Was that yardarm a little higher in the sky, this evening..? Nah, it's this stupid computer, every time my hand brushes the touchpad the text cursor jumps all ove the place. It needs fixing. btw I have not a clue what you mean, I am just explaing the typos.
hamster Posted 5 September, 2010 Posted 5 September, 2010 I hope that Rochdale have a minutes silence for Cyril next home game. He was a massive part of Rochdale Football club folklore. As important, arguably more-so, to their survival and existence. Nice one Cyril, nice one son.
