BadgerBadger Posted 2 September, 2010 Share Posted 2 September, 2010 Seen a few rats in the garden recently and they seem to be living under my decking. Has anyone had any luck with over the counter baits or traps. I've just called a pest control company and it's going cost £135 which I'll be happy to pay but not before investigating cheaper alternatives. The Kraken Posted 2 September, 2010 Share Posted 2 September, 2010 Go with pest control mate. My friends have had rats recently and they started with putting traps down, and caught 18 of the buggers over a period of time. Nothing for 2 or 3 weeks, then they started seeing rats again. They called pest control in and they had a good look round, and put some poison down (which apparently the rats take back to their nest as food, so it gets them all). Result, no more rats since. You could also try calling the council; they have specialist pest control, might be a bit cheaper.

BadgerBadger Posted 2 September, 2010 Author Share Posted 2 September, 2010 Give Ratman a call. RATMAN is a real-time terrain rendering framework able to asynchronously access terrain information from remote servers.
angelman Posted 2 September, 2010 Share Posted 2 September, 2010 £60 for 4 visits ain't bad. Mine was cheaper. My neighbour (a neurotic American married to a frog) called the pest control team in. It was getting a little silly - I was sitting on the bench having a quiet ciggy to hear rustling above my head. Grabbed a broom and gave it a swing and downed the rat. PS - if it is yr decking then you are liable to pay. I think that if you can prove it is someone else causing the problem then they are liable to pay
Colinjb Posted 2 September, 2010 Share Posted 2 September, 2010 1) Buy shotgun 2) Aim 3) Fire 4) Barbeque Cheap, 'humane' (If you hit them right....) and reduces the shopping budget for the month.

I'd love to see my neighbours face when he sees me swinging a shotgun in the garden. Air rifle killed a couple last year but stalking was time consuming if a little fun
Arizona Posted 2 September, 2010 Share Posted 2 September, 2010 I think when this came up last time the best choices ended up being either a Burmese Python or poison.

The Old Codger Posted 3 September, 2010 Share Posted 3 September, 2010 The country store Scats do the very same poison. A few carefully placed 'meals' and the nest is killed very quickly and easily. £10-£20 tops!

RonManager Posted 3 September, 2010 Share Posted 3 September, 2010 Befriend them and learn their ratty ways. Eventually you will become one of them and never be seen or heard of again in human society. Those that know will glimpse you down by the riverbank, basking in the sun on long summer afternoons. They will know you by your rat-sized replica shirt and will leave small scraps of paper upon which is scribed the latest Saints result. Happy days. tonibell Posted 3 September, 2010 Share Posted 3 September, 2010 I had them under my decking too. Drove me mad so l went down Clarence hardware (bottom of Shirley) brought a old fashioned rat trap for £18.00 and a pot of blue pellets poison that sort them out. Caught 3 and they eat the poison so hopefully thats the end of them. The 3 l caught l drove out to the New Forset and I let them go

What on earth were you doing buying a 'humane' rat trap in the first place.
