ericofarabia Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Expectations strangely subdued Bizarrely, I would not be surprised by any result, lose, draw or win Ditto Ditto .... it's like the will to get excited about football has been knocked out of me only weeks into the season This was going to be an even better season than last ... supposedly...... but ..... ........The closed season changes in ticketing procedures with booking fees and on the day surcharges, a lack lustre pre season build up, the death of ML, only 1 win in 5 at home, out of two cups already, Transfer window comes and goes without any wow factor signings and the biggest kick of all PardewGate, leaving us in a state of uncertainty which by the time a new boss is found and gelled in, we will be in as bad a position as we were after 10 games last season And you can virtually be certain that any choice of new manager is going to be met with a pretty big split for and against him amongst us lot.

I agree. I have a funny feeling it will be someone I've never heard of, know nothing about and will be another one of Cortese's bonkers decisions born out of links he has with some italians.....
Appy Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I'm not looking forward to explaning to people how my team couldn't beat Rochdale at home, no offence to Rochdale of course. Davis Butterfield Fonte Martin Harding Chamberlain Hammond Schneiderlin Puncheon Lambert Connolly.
Saint Charlie Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I'd like to see us doing something different. If Lambert is going to play and I don't think he should because his groin injury hasn't healed yet, I'd like to see us inject a bit of pace into central midfield. I personally would like to see Bialkowski in goal but obviously it will be Davis. The back four picks itself for me Butterfield, Fonte, Martin, Harding. The midfield has been a major problem making the buildup slow and lacking pace. Because of that I would do something radical. Chamberlain, De Prado, Puncheon, Dickson, with Connolly and Lambert up front. Everybody playing on their natural side with hard running players with pace from midfield helping out the at the moment immobile Lambert. I know about no defensive midfielder, but that really worked well against Swindon with two of them sitting even at 0-2 didn't it? Schneiderlin needs to rethink his roll and it isn't as a one dimensional strolling square passer and Hammond is way off the pace. In any event they would be on the bench if it didn't work, but somehow I think Rochdale would have their hands full with the pace and again if they are coming to park the bus why do we need two negative central midfield players? So you would drop our captain, club captain, and best central midfielder? Jeez, and you reckon Pardew should have gone for football matters?
the saint in winchester Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 (edited) Davis Butterfield Fonte Martin Harding Hammond Schneiderlin Dickson Chamberlain Lambert Guly Edited 3 September, 2010 by the saint in winchester based on Derry's assessment
SNSUN Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 A week ago I genuinely thought we'd got the season started with the Bristol Rovers performance. A week later and we've lost our manager and been spanked at home by Swindon and lost two key players through injury and suspension. This game should be a walk over, no disrespect to Rochdale, but after recent events I don't know what to think. We can win, but it won't be big. 2-0. Lambert alone up front, Dickson wide left, Guly in the middle.

I think I will wake up in a minute.......
RonManager Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 We need to focus on this game now. No moaning, please no idiotic disruption at the game. Assume you'll be backing the new manager and wanting promotion, well, that will be a lot easier if we collect points in the meantime. Don't make him start in the bottom half of L1 with an excuse for not going up. Get right behind the team and get the 3 points. If we play anywhere near potential, or match Rochdale's effort, we'll win. Ok Gaffer. I'll make sure there's no dissension in the ranks in Upper Block 4.
RonManager Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/rochdale/fb_news.php?storyid=9119&title=qanda_with_a_southampton_fan Guess who.
derry Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Do you think surgery may be the solution here as well? I haven't a clue, this came from the same source as the Lallana injury details. I think, the weight, training issue and reduced mobility is the problem. Probably IMO just needs rest to heal but is having to be played now because of circumstances, when he probably shouldn't be.
Appy Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/rochdale/fb_news.php?storyid=9119&title=qanda_with_a_southampton_fan Guess who. "As opposed to 38 years later when i'm now a big kid". What a ****.
derry Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 So you would drop our captain, club captain, and best central midfielder? Jeez, and you reckon Pardew should have gone for football matters? Davis is a only a shotstopper the rest of his game is poor. Hammond was poor the other night, Schneiderlin was worse. We need to find a way to beat defensive teams at SMS and Hammond and Schneiderlin with their lack of movement and negative passing aren't going to do that except on the odd occasion. The Swindon game showed our deficiencies. What I put forward was a player that has already played in central midfield for the club teamed with a player brought in to play central midfield, both with a bit of pace and able to attack the opposition. Lambert is immobile because of injury and Schneiderlin and Hammond are static. Lambert needs some assistance and neither of the midfield will do that so it needs to be changed. Davis as club captain is one thing but on the field we are lacking a proper captain and Hammond is no natural leader.
Danny R Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 This will certainly be no walk in the park. They had a fantastic result last week and play football the right way, which may or not suit us. I don't see any evidence to suggest that they will 'park the bus' other than our fans stupid superiority complex. If I were Rochdale, I would fancy winning this one, especially if the crowd get on the players backs - which they undoubtedly will. Heart : Comfortable 2-0 win. Head: Comfortable 0-2 defeat.
broncoboy Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Who knows what might happen We could thrash them or lose 4-1 Hopefully NC knows we need the right manager asap
The Kraken Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Who knows what might happen We could thrash them or lose 4-1 Hopefully NC knows we need the right manager asap He doesn't. Kelvin Davis was quoted in the Echo yesterday as saying that the Chairman is happy to wait as long as it takes to get the right man in.

SaintRichmond Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I think another 0-3 loss And our great CEO will STILL think he can "mend" us just like you can mend a Machine Nicola, you can't Football is a HUMAN thing
hypochondriac Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 "As opposed to 38 years later when i'm now a big kid". What a ****. Why?
Appy Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Why? Because its not funny, i don't like him anyway having met him a few times and him always jumping in front of tv cameras everytime something happens at our club.
Hamilton Saint Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I agree with the general feel here - Martin should return at CH (but will he?). Guly still too early to judge, but shouldn't start. Some variation on 4-5-1 looks a good starting point, with a view to reefer to 4-4-2 on 60 mins to give DC his well deserved run out. ... . Everything going to pot, then?
Bailey Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Have to admit, I'm slightly nervous about this one. Given the current circumstances, I can see us losing this unfortunately. In terms of the starting XI, I'd go with the following: --------------------- Davis -------------------- Butterfield ----- Martin ----- Fonte ----- Harding Puncheon --- Hammond --- Schneiderlin --- Dickson ------------- Lambert ---- Connolly -------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Jaidi, Mills, Wotton, Chamberlain, Guly, Garrod.
Amesbury Saint Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 If I was not a ST holder I would probably not bother going. I feel very flat at the moment about Saints.
Saint_clark Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 It wasn't our Chairman who died. For a "fans spokesman" he doesn't know a lot about our club, does he.
hypochondriac Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Because its not funny, i don't like him anyway having met him a few times and him always jumping in front of tv cameras everytime something happens at our club. OK you don't have to like him, but why does being unfunny in an interview make him a ****?

If we play anywhere near potential, or match Rochdale's effort, we'll win. I think you need to tell the players not the fans. You can see this coming, new manager will come in " not my players, not my team, to far off the pace don't worry next year we will be fine blah blah blah.............................." A week ago I was telling people on here to have some patience fully confident we'd be alright. Now I just feel the whole season will pass us by I wouldn't be suprised if we finish lower than last season.
trousers Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I've got a feeling in my waters that this game will be a 0-0 You heard it here first (and last)
rocknrollman no2 Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 Im sure the fans will give the team total backing by singing songs, shouting encouragement etc, even if we go 1-0 down.We will still sing and hope we will win the game with the fans support. But if the team come out and look like they couldnt give a toss, then expect abuse. Manager or not,us fans want to win and expect the team to think the same.
shurlock Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 I think you need to tell the players not the fans. Now I just feel the whole season will pass us by I wouldn't be suprised if we finish lower than last season. Only wheeer-dealer redknapp would do that. No doubt as part of the interview process NC will ask candidates if they think we can go up and won't have much time for those in the excuse business or hesitant about their chances of taking us up this season. Will make it very hard for the successful applicant to play the "its not my team guv" card.
Saint_clark Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 For the first time in years I might not be going tomorrow through choice. I honestly - and regrettably - cannot get motivated.
RonManager Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 For the first time in years I might not be going tomorrow through choice. I honestly - and regrettably - cannot get motivated. Now we'll all just pretend that we haven't read that.
Kevtherev Posted 3 September, 2010 Posted 3 September, 2010 ----------------Davis -Butterfield, Martin, Fonte, Dickson Puncheon, Hammond, Schneiderlin, Guly --------------Chamberlain ----------------Lambert agree agree agree Need to have 5 in mid nipper alex deserves chance at least he is playing with pace and pride
shurlock Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 (edited) For the first time in years I might not be going tomorrow through choice. I honestly - and regrettably - cannot get motivated. Its an odd one - not disputing your position but i couldnt be more up for this game - want to see a proper reaction after the proverbial headcold of the last five days; win and we kickstart the season again with our first homewin and can look forward with relish to the imminent announcement of a new manager; lose or perform poorly, and the fans could make it pretty awkward and ugly for the club - psychologically, whether we move on or continue to dwell means that there is alot at stake and makes for an intriguing and unpredictable afternoon. Throw in the mix that half the press is expecting and hoping we lose and Rochdale are a tidy side and will come down and compete, and its nicely set up. Edited 4 September, 2010 by shurlock
rick1976.4.38 Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 before ap being sacked i thought we would put at least 4 past rochdale, now i feel worried they might turn us over.hope we win but wont be there, swindon next.wifm
Charlie2008 Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 I predict 3 - 1, Rochdale to score first! :)COYR
InvictaSaint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 Bizarrely, the BBC Breakfast weather chap has just focussed on Southampton v Rochdale as the game to focus on from a weather perspective. No PL or Championship games, I suppose, so perhaps not so odd. Maybe a clue as to how much time we will get on the FL Show tonight?...
Dalek2003 Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 I have a feeling that we will get a GOOD win today. The players know that we will soon have a new manager, I am sure that he will be watching carefully today.
alpine_saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 For the first time in years I might not be going tomorrow through choice. I honestly - and regrettably - cannot get motivated. Dont believe you. You have woken up today with an itch you cannot scratch.
alpine_saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 I have a feeling that we will get a GOOD win today. The players know that we will soon have a new manager, I am sure that he will be watching carefully today. And who might that be ?
Dalek2003 Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 And who might that be ? You tell me Mr Alpine.
alpine_saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 You tell me Mr Alpine. Why have you come over all bashful all of a sudden ?
Dalek2003 Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 Why have you come over all bashful all of a sudden ? No, but I do feel we are close to getting a new manager, i doubt it will be Glenn Hoddle.
SO16_Saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 No, but I do feel we are close to getting a new manager, i doubt it will be Glenn Hoddle. No it will be claudio ranieri
itchen_dan Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 Think you might see Puncheon/Guly play off Lambert today in either a 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1. I can't see Connolly playing another game. -------------------Davis----------------------- -- Butterfield -- Martin -- Fonte -- Harding Puncheon - Hammond - Schneiderlin - Dickson ------------------ Guly-------------------- -----------------Lambert-----------------
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 Guly will start - it's been mandated by the Board and Connollys legs will be saved until 80mins. Therefore team IMO will be... -----------------------DAVIS-------------------- BUTTERFIELD-----FONTE-----JAIDI-----HARDING PUNCH-----SCHNEIDERLIN-----HAMMOND-----DICKSON ----------------------GULY---------------------- ---------------LAMBERT------------------------ Subs: Connolly, Bart, Fish, Martin, Wotton, Ox-Chamberlain That one! But maybe change Jaidi for Martin
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Posted 4 September, 2010 I would definitely go for Martin, but will be interesting to see who Wilkins picks, because someone on here claimed that Cortese didn't like Martin and if AP was in charge for the Swindon game, Martin would have played and not Jaidi.
saint lard Posted 4 September, 2010 Author Posted 4 September, 2010 Right i'm outta here,i will keep my eyes peeled and my ear to the ground and will post any unstubstantiated rumours and sightings. I will be the good looking one in the Itchen.
