Last year, after 3 games

Norwich were P3 W0 D1 L2 F3 A10 GD -7 Pts 1

They sacked their manager, appointed Lambert who had been a league manager for 4 years, never a team as big as Norwich, never at higher level and had never won promotion.

Their next 6 results under Lambert were WWDLDD

They finished the season promoted by 10 clear points.

This year, after 3 games

Saints are P3 W1 D1 L1 F5 A2 GD +3 Pts 4

Desperate eh?

No more than the usual from you, in fairness.

Hang on a minute, when people were saying "Norwich started the season badly last year, why can't we go on to win the league" you always came back with "Norwich sacked their manager so we would have to do the same".

Surely now you'll agree there is no reason we still can't go on to win the league? Depending on who we get in, obviously.

no when club are doing well its easy to enjoy it and be optimistic, after watching last night and not knowing how we are going to end up it is harder, but now I have seen this we will clearly be promoted with 12 points to spare!

Of course.

But this a standard NickG trick. Do a statistical comparison to paint everything hunky-dory.

It may be of some comfort to us, but the fact is this a worn-thin trick he uses, hence my comment about it being the usual from him.

You idiot!

You've given the game away - now all the other 23 teams in the league will sack their management team this week, appoint a tyro manager within a few days and we'll ALL end up at the end of the season in first place with the same number of points, and with us beginning with an 'S' that's our chances ****ed!

Just factual. Things not looking good, so thought I would look to see when Norwich changed their manager and compare and it gave me a bit of hope that if we get the right person in it is still possible we will have a good season.

Possible if

1) appointed soon.

2) stating obvious but a good appointment (but what makes a good manager as they seems to be bit random in failing/succeeding at different clubs)

3) someone big enough to get players, who looked like they were sulking, behind him quickly

4) someone who will get on with Cortesse

I agree.

But it is simplistic to use norwich as a precidence.

Loads of other teams have replaced their manager early in the season and not been promoted.

And in keeping with the Norwich criteria - someone who keeps his collar turned up and wears plenty of hair gel.

also agree, may not be the norm or the most likely - but shows it can be done - which I am sure Cortesse will point out!

Also some of our players are much better than the norm for this league.

do what we need to if we are going to copy them - might as well do it properly!

Trouble is, Norwich sacked a complete novice manager with a poor record and replaced him with a proper manager. Ie, the replacement was an obvious improvement from day 1.

We've sacked a manager with promotion experience from this league and the league above, who had an excellent record (if you focus on the period in which he'd built his own team, and don't keep harping back to August/September 09 as 'evidence' that Pardew was a shi*e manager).

Therefore if we're going to repeat the Norwich scenario, we need an improvement on Pardew. Most of the candidates listed are not clear improvements, and their appointment will be a gamble. A gamble we really didn't need to make.
