TopGun Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 I wasn't at the game last night but can't help noticing that we didn't concede against Bristol Rovers when he wasn't playing (although we did against Bolton but they are PL) and have conceded at least one in all the other games this season when he has been playing... Is that just a fluky statistic or is Jaidi now too slow and old?
stevegrant Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Unfortunately, I'd say yes. In the games he's played this season, he's looked a bit of a liability. The Fonte/Martin partnership not only looks fresher, it also has a presence and an air of confidence about it, IMO.

Deppo Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Sorry. I didn't mean to upset you by agreeing with you. You just wrote basically what I was going to write. What shall I do in this situation that won't try your patience? I don't want to upset you, so help me out here please steve?
iansums Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Yes, I thought so after the Plymouth game. I thought Seaborne was better in the Bmth game and apparently Martin has also been better.
S-Clarke Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 He has struggled since the back end of last season if im honest. He doesn't seem to have ever recovered from the injury he had. A real shame, because at the start of last season he was an utter beast and perfect for this league.
Mewsta Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 I have to agree on this one! Martin/Fonte partnership seems very well suited!!!
Robsk II Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Nail on head, in a nutshell S-Clarke. It's a shame but unless he recovers that kind of form he shouldn't be first choice.
BotleySaint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Unfortunatly because he has experience and is a ex-international, and possibly one of our higher paid players, I imagine he'll keep his place regardless of form.
simondo Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 yes - i said it on here recently, but it was his mistakes that led to the plymouth and orient goals
norwaysaint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 I have to agree on this one! Martin/Fonte partnership seems very well suited!!! Nutshell We were far stronger at the back without Jaidi.
broncoboy Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 I hate to say it but I think Jaidi has been poor and showing signs of his age.
West End Saint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 YES I think he was good last season but now looks so slow and unfit he will be a liability this season we need to accept he is over the hill and shouldnt be in our starting 11. Give Martin the shirt he will devolp into a fantastic centre back paired with Fonte he is bound to make some mistakes due to lack of experiance but a much better option than Jaidi
stevy777_x Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 People, don't forget it's Ramadan at the moment, if he is indeed fasting he is going to be struggling to keep is energy levels up. People at my work are fasting and they are not as effecient as they would be normally.
norwaysaint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Ooops. Is "nutshell" against forum rules? Do we have to say the slightly dumber "+1" or even worse "this" to avoid SG's ever so slightly bizarre wrath?
Deppo Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Ooops. Is "nutshell" against forum rules? Do we have to say the slightly dumber "+1" or even worse "this" to avoid SG's ever so slightly bizarre wrath? Have you been infracted for using it? Weird isn't it? I got infracted for using it to actually agree with steve grant! How strange is that? I don't really understand what is wrong with it.
PokingFun Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Unfortunatly because he has experience and is a ex-international, and possibly one of our higher paid players, I imagine he'll keep his place regardless of form. There can be no other explanation than this really if Martin is out of the team for Saturday's game. Clean sheet versus Bristol Rovers and had an excellent game against Bolton and the physical threat of Kevin Davies. Aaron Martin is far more mobile than Jaidi and a bit no nonsense which complements Fonte really well. Also, he will come on leaps and bounds playing alongside a CB of Fonte's quality. Wilkins would be mental to not play the lad Saturday unless under instructions not to ......
Saint_Mabes Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Yeah, I said a week or so ago that I thought Jaidi had half a season as first choice next to Fonte, but his recent performances coupled with Martin's recent performances means i'd def give Martin his chance. Would love to know the resoning behind getting Seaborne instead of Elliot Ward. I must admit I know nothing about Ward, but when we were close to signing him people thought he'd be a sure fire starter. I just have a horrible feeling that one poor inexperienced performance by Martin and people will jump on his back and say that we need a better centre back. Do people still thinking pulling out of the Ward deal was a huge mistake?
norwaysaint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Have you been infracted for using it? Weird isn't it? I got infracted for using it to actually agree with steve grant! How strange is that? I don't really understand what is wrong with it. This (+1) No, I wasn't infracted, at least yet, but I saw you were being threatened even though you actually wrote more than some of the other posters on here. Apparently "yes, yes and thrice yes" is acceptable, "I have to agree" is acceptable, "nail on head", "+1", "nutsacks" and "this" are acceptable, but "Nutshell. Definitely worth pursuing the Fonte/Martin partnership."is trying the mods' patience. It's all a bit random.
Liquidshokk Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 I for one thought he had a great first half yesterday. He won everything and got himself into all the right positions. However, I think on the whole he has had his day and is too slow... I knwo thats a slight contradiction but ultimately the answer is yes :-)
