Smirking_Saint Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 No, no he wasn't. And if he was the rest of them were diabolical. Firstly he was out of position, so a bit unfair to judge. I'm assuming that was to break him into League One football gently rather than play him in the hurly-burly in the middle immediately, he's used to having more time and always getting the ball to feet and that was obvious. I'll give you quick (when he chose to run) and good in the air. His touch was also fine, but he lost the ball too much in possession from trying tricks to suggest hold up play was good, and his languid style is going to REALLY annoy some people. I think he's got potential but he needs to add workrate or up his speed of distribution and make himself more available for passes. Thanks the9 absolutely spot on. I even turned to my mate and said the bolded bit when Harding (who is a bit of a d*ck at times shouting at everyone) had a go at him. He obviously isn't used to having the ball played infront of him, and is clearly right footed and likes playing inside so we stick him out on the left.......why ? He showed some decent touches, and some of the flicks came off but the experiment didn't work, i am not going to judge him as a player but the performance last night was poor. To say Fonte had a poor game is rediculous, he did what he could basically playing as two defenders and sometimes three behind Jaidi and Harding, i was bemused when i saw him sweep up behind the left back (he is a RCB ffs). Jaidi was so so poor last night, slow, cumbersome and lacked concentration, Fonte did well to do what he did and if i was him i would have come of the pitch livid i had to work so hard in such a poorly performing defence. Connelly looked bright for me, no one else really stood out except for Ox-C and puncheon who always looks dangerous but holds on to it too long. I have no idea whats up with Rickie. SparkySaint Posted 1 September, 2010 Share Posted 1 September, 2010 I can understand Harding getting frustrated with him - he just wasn't putting in the effort that Dan was. Far too languid - vast improvement needed before I'll be happy. Hello Blandford Saint hows you? Do you live in Blandford or are you from Blandford? shurlock Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Thought he looked pretty lively playing in a more central position. Refreshing to see one of our players constantly on the move to look for and receive the ball.

channonball Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Crap! Re-read the club signing announcement. It's either a bad inditement of Italian football, or complete bullish*t, you decide...
The boy done well Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Looks like it was only you, me, Weston and Clfford that saw that. I certainly did but that kind of football is hardly conducive to his sort of game. Think he'll be ok
Crispypie Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Erm, he seemed to do a lot of standing around watching the play going on around him. Had a couple of nice touches but he really needs to get involved if he is going to be any use to us.
kpturner Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 I thought he was OK considering the general level of ineptitude around him. Must be given more time before being judged IMHO - but he certainly ain't gonna have the same impact on us that Bellamy is having on Cardiff. Good players from Serie A do not sign for English L1 clubs, simple as that.

surrey1saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 I thought he has a lot to learn about L1 football in England, which is not really surprising.Showed some promise.
S-Clarke Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 I thought he was ok, the first thought he has is to get forward and into space. His touch seems ok and he snaps the passes around quite well. I think he'll be great in an AMC role, but one of Hammond or Morgan will have to be sacrificed. Whitey Grandad Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 It's difficult to say after just a few minutes playing time, but it's going to take some time before he's a confident, dominating, fully-integrated essential member of the team. st alex Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Thought in both matches he looked like he has quality, but just isn't used to our team and style yet. Although I also thought he has a degree of arogance about his body lanuage and looks like he could have some attitude, was quite surprised to see how many times he complained that a pass hadn't been made to him. Kingsbridge Saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Too early to judge Guly but yesterday he looked one of our better players. AOC was the only Saints player other than Guly who looked like a professional footballer. The rest were not up to Football League standard. austsaint Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Watched the game on Bet 365 - Guly looked promising and once he settles will be an asset. It must be a bit bewildering for him to take in all the happenings of the last couple of weeks. The whole side looks shell shocked and dis-spirited...I thought young Oxo looked really good though not yet the finished article; Connolly ok; Ricky awful. Topcat Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Today he done nothing wrong and set up our best chance. He never came the ball away. Lambert set up Guly with a measured pass on the edge of their box. Guly then failed to shoot on target and it went over the bar.
benjii Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Hopefully all the moaners about so-called Hoofball will afford the guy a bit of time to settle as it's clear he can be the link in some nice passing. But they probably won't, they'll probably start singing "One Alan Pardew" if he gets tackled.
Huffton Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 First time I saw him yesteday and I thought when he had the ball he looked pretty good. Got himself in some good positions, didn't seem to have much of an understanding with the rest of the team though, but thats something that will come. Shame about the shot over the bar. Katalinic Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Lambert set up Guly with a measured pass on the edge of their box. Guly then failed to shoot on target and it went over the bar. At least he had a shot rather than passing it sideways again/trying to walk it in. FWIW I thought he was ok yesterday.

dubai_phil Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 Seemed to be played as the 1 in a 4-4-1-1 when he came on. Other MF seemed unsure what they were supposed to do. He moved around, he looked for the ball and gave the passes. He had a good chance at the ednge of the box, shot over the bar - difference between hero & villain there, but was closer than many other players's shots Think he will be a useful squad player, when the rest understand where the coach has asked him to play he might start to look a good buy sure was more mobile than the other choice in CM = Wotton
Singeon Sears Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 When he came on he tried to create some space and pass the ball around - the rest of the team looked utterly lost with the concept. To say we play "direct" football is something of an understatement, and to see a new player come in and try to play some football showed us up for what we really are at the moment
