Andy_Porter Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Poor performance. Lambert, Jaidi and Hammond where all **** poor, basically the spine of our side that made us so hard to beat, it's no suprise you're going to get destroyed when those three don't turn up. Gully looked like he didn't want to be here, anything that was straight into his feet and he'd end up moaning at Harding or just shrugging his shoulders, no work ethic and no real signs that he had something special about him. Would have much rather seen Dickson or Mills start on the left, even Holmes would have put in more of a shift and he's injured. I would not be suprised if what BPsaint is saying is true, I found it bizarre that Martin was dropped, prior to Bolton I haven't been too impressed with him (mainly distribution) but against Bolton and Rovers he has really come on, nothing was going to get past him all night seemed to have a good understanding with Fonte. Might also be the reason Gully was played left wing rather than Dickson.... Connolly, Puncheon, Fonte, Butterfield, Davis and of course Oxlade-Chamberlain where the only players really who really worked for the side. Barnard seemed to be trying a bit too hard with his tackle and was unfortunate, still gives Connolly a chance to impress over the next three games. Can't remember the last time I've come away from St Marys feeling so deflated, apart from Chamberlains little cameo there wasn't much in the way of positives to take away from a game against a fairly poor outfit, need to get a decent manager in to get the squad back together, hopefully someone Cortese backs completely and doesn't try to force decisions on. If we just appoint some yes man who's going to do what ever Cortese tells him to do we would be lucky to get promoted to the Championship in five years let alone the Premiership.
kchkwong Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 There have been some tits suddenly appearing on the forum in the past couple of days, but you really do take the prize as the biggest. On the basis of one result since Pardew's departure against a team that beat us twice last year under him, you throw your toys out of the pram. How old are you? Are you looking forward to the new term? There were two teams who scored three goals against us (excluding Premiership Skates (4)) The mighty Bristol Rovers beat us 3-2 and Brighton managed to beat us 1-3 at St. Mary's. We also suffered 2-1 defeats by Colchester, Tranmere and Gillingham. I don't recall you feeling the urgent need to come on here then and call for NC's head then. It has obviously totally escaped your attention that the team that played last night was the pick of Pardew's team and you will apparently have us believe that they can only function if Pardew is on the touchline shouting orders. It doesn't occur to you at all that perhaps Lallana's absence, or Lambert not being fully fit are factors that might have changed the outcome, preferring instead to blame the chief executive. I expect that when things improve and we are climbing to the top of the division, you will quietly disappear as suddenly as you came. One lives in hope. The players were shell shocked. You are probably right about Lallana's absence was a big miss for us, though. I hope NC has already had the right person lined up already. We now need a new manager urgently.

jam Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad if Dickson had played on the left, Gully was just annonymous. Nobogy seemed to want to pass to him, yet he didn't seem bad when he actually got the ball. I'd definitely have preferred to see him in the middle, however that would mean dropping Hammond and I can't imagine a caretaker doing that.
georgeg Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 a good honest summary Weston - a team totally devoid of shape - no second ball - no midfield and very little teamwork - when chamberlain came on his work rate and ball retention skill was better than the rest of them put together
dubai_phil Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Woo hoo! Thank heavens I was in some obscure tiny Scottish Market Town last night in a skanky hotel with no internet. Otherwise I'd have stayed up late and listened to the match on Saintsplayer and wouldn't have sampled a pleasant dinner and a couple of nice Lowland Malts. But now very worried about having to be at SMS on Saturday if they turn out and play like you lot say they did. Anyway back to work and meetings
Clifford Nelson Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 There was no difference between the way we played against Swindon and the way we always play. With two "wrongfooted" wingers we are trying to overwhelm the opposition, and that is about the long and short of it. Since this is the only thing they have to plan for I'm not surprised that we have been found out and can't do it anymore. It is a very unsophisticated way to play football these days, and Swindon did what they should have done, since they aren't a bad team. One has got to ask oneself how we never get into the box for free headers or to complete a cross, when it keeps happening to us. This loss shouldn't have been a cause to start singing Pardew's praises either at SMS, or on this forum. It ought to be clear that it is the other way around: He's gone because we play like this, and not for the first time. If I was Dean Wilkins I don't think I would change much, since the new manager is likely to have very different ideas, but I would without any hesitation play left footed players on the left and right footed on the right, (and let the new guy worry about Lallana, who might be the odd one out, when he comes back in a few weeks time), and have the good sense to see that Guly is a central midfielder, and play him there. He has just played a year at the top of Serie B and gotten Cesena promoted, so he must have very useful qualities for League 1. Let's try to understand how we can use his qualities rather than to expect him to do something different. Saints have done this to new players so many times through the years, and then sold them on without getting the best out of them.
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 September, 2010 Posted 1 September, 2010 Can i just state, what BPsaint is just not true. I am not calling him a liar, i just don't understand who would have said that to him. You are going to have to trust me on this.
