Sorry, how is it the chairman's fault that the team put in an abject performance? Fair enough, the timing of Pards' sacking wasn't exactly great, but if the rumours are true about player and staff morale and unhappiness, it's better late than never. Cortese does a lot of hard work to ensure that the club is run properly, all that is left is for the team to put in the graft on the pitch to make sure we get back to where we deserve to be. The sooner we get the new guy in, the better, because he can hopefully motivate the team to perform to their capabilities. Tbf, we never really start the season very well anyway, and Swindon had a point to prove tonight as well!

Hope Cortese got some stick tonight. He deserves it.

Any news on pro-Pardew chants?

And what if it was Pardew's own fault that he got himself dismissed ? Things are clearly pointing to a disgruntled camp promulgated by Pardew that led Cortese to this decision.

Jeez I hope some of you are'nt 100 metre runners or you would get disqualified every race for false starts !!

It's hard being a Saints supporter isn't it? What a rollercoaster ride we are in for again this season, let's hope the players show a bit more guts on Saturday. Beaten by Swindon again, I despair!

It was a straight red.

According to Sky Sports Score Centre Barnard was sent off for a second bookable offence one minute after his first booking. It doesn't indicate what his second offence was however, so it could be that on consulting his linesman the ref upgraded his decision to a straight red. More likely, though, I would guess that Barney argued too strongly over the decision and got a second yellow for dissent. If that is right then is merrimd right in saying it will only be a one game ban?

Yeah cos they really played like a team liberated from a poor manager

And pardews record was so poor

Oh dear same s**t different chairman, I'd hoped those days were behind us. But here we are once again imploding. So that's 4 home games no wins 1 goal scored & no clean sheets. No manager half the training staff gone, what a shambles. Oh happy 125

Agree.

The referee got the wrong card out, it was a straight red.

Surely, once a card is shown it's final? The ref may well have shown a yellow when he meant a ref but what does the rulebook say about it? How long does a ref have, if any, to withdraw the card originally shown?

Then our expensively assembled squad need to get their thumbs out of their collective arses and play for their shirt - And their wages!!

To me that performance tonight was that of team who not happy with AP's departure. If i was supposedly unhappy with man mangement skills of my former manager then I would of shown a lot more enthusiasm and effort than that. Unless of course NC insisted cup games are low priority and minimal effort required. But surely we would of played squad players without risking injuries and suspensions to key players.

I was quite suspicious of that BBC blog yesterday about AP sacking even before tonight's game but now I am definately thinking that it was proof read by NC !

i think Cortese is starting to be shown up for the amateur that he is.

A bad part of me thinks it wouldve been better if he had croaked. - we would still have a billionaire owner who loves us and Pardew as a manager.

I can only be appeased if Keegan is appointed manager.

Quite the opposite has been widely reported.....not saying truthfully reported but........

Classic two fingers from the players - no way would they have performed like under Pards and after Saturday.

Big-name (and respected) manager needs to be appointed - Cortese must surely be trying to pull this off otherwise there is only one way we are heading.
