As a change from the current Manager & Transfer speculations, the Football Echo did a good piece at the weekend on foreign players signed by Saints and actually played for the club- 72 in total. (another 8 signed but never played + Guly)

 

Of these the following IMHO were successful:

After making a 5m profit on Kenwyne Jones I'd put him in the top category, probably same with Fernandez.

My parameter for 'successful' was hacking it regularly in the Prem

 

Rasiak only played for us in the 2nd Tier and Kenwyne made only cameo appearances in the Prem.

Yer, but it's all relative. If Lambert was foreign, would you not put him in the top group because he did it in League 1 and not the premiership?

I'm quite surprised we've only signed 72 foreign players over the years; it seems such a low number but I guess that's because of the number of foreign players that have come to play in English football over the past few years.

 

Given your explanation of the selection process, I'd be inclined to agree. Would maybe add Trond Egil Soltvedt as generally OK but think you've covered all bases. Think you are right to leave Fabrice where he is though, what a shame he lacked the mental capacity to be a top player. Think he's retired now or playing for someone really random, what a waste!

However IMHO he would never make a Prem player.

 

However, having said that who would have thought that dear old Brett Omerod and even Jason Euell would be still hacking it in the Prem. Also Fuller,Higgy, Kevin Davies etc

Remember Davies struggled on loan at Millwall but was touted, by some, as an England possibility last year!!

No, he wouldn't made premiership standard but he has been successful for us! Like Rasiak was.
