Very, very disappointing transfer window for Saints.

Richardson, Guly, Butterfield and Dickson.

No disrespect, but that's WAY below what I was expecting.

Hope to be proved wrong in the next couple of minutes, but am not hopeful...

But when 100 premiership players don't make the 25 man squads Saints will still have a good budget to bring some in if Cortese has indeed gone for a good manager.

Think about it.

Good stadium.

Rich club.

Fantastic league one players.

Money to spend.

Good manager.

Yeah as a player I would join Saints as they could pay half my wages.

Sure. I'm still expecting to see new faces, but usually take these sort of loan deals as being add-ons...."nice to have"....but not a fundamental part of building the squad for the long-term.

I think our present squad is weaker now than it was in May and find that very dispiriting.

We were hoping to get Tyson from Notts Forest who were in for Matty Phillips. Seems that did not happen with Phillips going to Blackpool today. No idea who the other one was though.

We should be able to attract the better of the loans so it's far from game over. A manager with links to a top 3 club could see some promising players come in. Fingers crossed.

I have to say its been a really disappointing transfer window (unless things have happened that we don't know about) - not too mentions close season, pre-season and start to the season!

The transfer window has closed are we have no manager and a weaker team than we finished last season with.

We made and filled a hole at right back but that is about it! I'm not convinced that Butterfield and Richardson actually give us any better options at right back than Lloyd James and Wayne Thomas did.

We're still missing a striker - we need 4 good stikers to see us through the season and somone who can actually provide cover for Lambert. Connolly was a cheap signing - and at his age and with his injury record won't see us through the season.

With Lallana's knee injury it looks like we'll be playing Do Prado/Guly from the start. And Guly was a gamble at that. So without Antonio and Waigo we have no pace and nothing on the bench that can change the game. Oxlade-Chamberlain is too young - and still got a lot of convincing to do before he can come close to filling that particular hole in the squad.

Holmes is too small and too slow - injury prone - and not as good as he thinks he is!

We also have no depth in the middle - once you look past Hammond and Schneiderlin there is no one there. Wotton is too old and slow and can't pace. Sure he's OK if you want to see out the last 10 minutes of a game at 3-0 up but that it. The Pulis JR situation is a joke. I'd take Gillett and Lloyd-James over those two any day!

Wotton, Pulis and Holmes should all have been shifted out for a start.

So its 2 weeks until the loan window opens up - that's two weeks to appoint a decent manager - but will it be enough to save our season if we lose the next two league games and get knocked out of the JPT.

I guess we'll see how badly the team has been affected by Pardew's sacking against Swindon tonight - but i'd imagine they are bit shell shocked and bit dispirited by it all.

isn't entirely possible we have made a signing, it just won't get announced till later..... there been lots of times before when signings aren't known until the next day, and we know how our Chairman like things announced on the OS first.

splitting hairs i kno w but the window shut at 6 might still signed bu not announced yet

True - this happened with Waigo last year which got announced the following lunchtime out of nowhere.

I think there is a player in the pipeline.

On the face of it, a poor transfer window culminating in a sh*t ending (with AP removed and no last minute signings). That said, being the optimistic Saint that I am, I'm prepared to give the new guy a fair go and hope he'll be able to attract some decent loanees to either buy or tide us over until January. If things aren't going well by January under the new man, though, I'd say NC will be none too popular with most of SMS...

Let's hope so. I imagine the lack of a manager is an impediment though....can't really answer questions about whetehr seen as a squad player or a starting XI or back up etc.

Not an absolute barrier....and of course, there could be great news comign through any minute.

I'm just very underwhelmed at the moment.

We didn't announce Papa Waigo until well after the window shut last year - i'm sure we won't have signed nobody. Still the loan window as well, expect to see more deals similar to Guly (loans with an option to purchase).
